Mike Harney travels each year to choose only the finest tea gardens. Meanwhile, Paul Harney works hard keeping us updated with all of the newest technology for the teas. We have hot and iced teas, loose and bagged teas, as well as ready to drink organic iced teas and juices. We offer the total tea package.

In 2003, the Harneys bought a 90,000 square foot building just over the Connecticut border in Millerton, New York. Looking down the long dark hallways of the factory, it was hard for John to fathom how they could possibly use all of this space for tea! A few years from that day John Harney would look down the hallways into the factory and find 90,000 square feet filled with fine teas! Currently, John walks into his successful tea company each morning with a bag of pastries for his employees. His kindness stretches way beyond the walls of the factory. CELEBRATING 27 YEARS John Harney, Founder Over twenty seven years ago John Harney developed a passion for fine teas. Starting in his very own house basement, John began his journey in becoming a master tea blender. Getting thrown out of his own basement so that his wife Elyse could do the familys laundry and not worry about the bleach or detergent mixing with the teas, John took his tea business to his garage. At that time, he was also the Innkeeper at the White Hart Inn in Salisbury, CT. It was there that John got the guests hooked on the teas and soon found they were coming back as repeat customers for his fine teas. Feeling the overgrowth in his garage, John ventured to a new location, this time down the road from his home in what would become Harney & Sons Tea Company. John wondered at

Harney & Sons Tea Company sells fine teas at a price that makes tea an everyday luxury. Our tea is sipped round the world in homes, hotels, restaurants, cafes and on cruise ships. The process of shipping tea from the worlds tea gardens to Harney & Sons production facility for blending, bagging and packing, then on to the worlds teacups, impacts our increasingly fragile environment. What could we do to give back to the environment that grows the tea of the world? In 2006, Michael and Paul Harney decided membership in 1% For The Planet would provide Harney & Sons with the opportunity to drive positive environmental change in our geographical region. Our production facility is located in Upstate New York surrounded by the beautiful mountains that make up the Berkshire Range. We are minutes from the Appalachian Trail. Our facility is located between the Hudson River to our west and the Housatonic River to our east. The Housatonic offers some of this countrys finest fly-fishing. Wildlife abounds in Upstate New York and the neighboring states of Massachusetts and Connecticut. The American Bald Eagle has made this Tri-State area its home once again. Our national bird can be observed in flight over the Hudson and Housatonic sourcing dinner or just sunning on a tree branch overlooking the riverbank. Joining 1% FTP meant we could directly donate one percent of our total sales to the environmental organizations of our choice. We also pay annual membership dues to 1% FTP to help this exemplary organization defray its overhead costs.
