Shoftim 2011

The Torah portion this week, Shoftim Judges, covers quite a lot of ground, from Deuteronomy 16:18-21:9. It gives us the details concerning those who would be appointed as judges in Israel and their role and then continues to branch off and grow! But there are layers that beg to be peeled back, hidden things waiting to be discovered by those who will look! Together, lets do just that! Deuteronomy 16:18-20 First lets establish who is sitting at the gates Judges & Officers Judges: Strongs #8199 shaphat to judge, govern, vindicate, punish The 2 letter root comes from #7779 shuwph to bruise or crush; describes the enmity between the seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent in Genesis 3:15 it shall bruise (shuwph) thy head, and thou shalt bruise (shuwph) his heel. *The role of the judges is one specifically involved in the battle between the two seeds! The reason is because of where they are stationed at the gates. o Genesis 22:17, speaking to Abraham thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; o Genesis 24:60, speaking to Rebekah and let thy seed possess the gate of those which hate them. The gates play an intricate part in this battle, and the seed of Abraham (the Hebrews) have been called to be judges and officers within them! Looking briefly at the word gate in Hebrew, shaar it contains the 2 letter root of ir term applied to the fallen ones/watchers their intent is to control the gates, hence the battle associated with them! Officers: Strongs #7860 shoter official, officer, a scribe; from an unused root meaning to write *Its on the gates that the Words of Yahweh are to be written! Deuteronomy 6:9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates. The position of a judge goes hand in hand with that of scribe one who has written the Torah! Both the word judges ( & )the word officers ( )contain the root a defection, a revolt; added to this is the of shaphat & the of shoter = the fruit or the offering of our lips. Its at the gates where one who has been involved in defection and revolt now has the opportunity to make the Torah the fruit of their lips! And its from the gates that the Torah is now proclaimed out! 1

*This is why the gates are connected with the battle the gates become the location where the Word/Seed is released and received! Gates: Strongs #8179 shaar gate; from #8176 shaar to split open, to reason out, calculate, estimate, to cleave or divide A cognate is #7605 shear rest, residue, or remnant *The one who sits at the gate is the remnant who was divided off from the Messiah when He was split open at the counting place/estimate, calculate! Shes to be the gatekeeper and the one who is used to proclaim forth His Torah! Other related words continue to reveal the significance of these gates! o #7603 seor leaven; often used as a type of sin The gates control the leaven! o #8181 sear hair Connecting gates and hair leads us down an interesting path! The first reference of this word sear is used describing Esau And the first came out red, all over like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau. Genesis 25:25; Esau represents the serpents seed (he attempts to reverse the roles by crushing the head of Jacob, hes described as a man of the field) and hes described as hairy! Hair = Gates The serpent in control of the gates! What happens now? Genesis 27:11, 16 Smooth: Strongs #2509 chalaq flattering, smooth; from #2505 chalaq to divide, to apportion, to assign (related words mean portion, territory, and possession, #2505 2509) The serpent controls the gate (Esau) but it is Jacob who represents the one divided/broken off (Bride) who is to control this territory as a possession! In order for this to happen, Jacob is given skins: Strongs #5785 owr skin, hide; the same type of skins that Adam & Eve are clothed with the blood atonement/covering! In 2 Kings 1:8 Elijah is described as a hairy man as well. Elijah: Strongs #452 Eliyah My God is Yahweh; Malachi 4:5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of Yahweh. Elijah was one who controlled the gate (hairy) and it is in the end days again that the Bride will be in control of the gates as a judge and officer! *Gematria of Elijah = 46, we have 46 chromosomes that make up our DNA, we possess the gates by having our DNA restored and repaired by the Word of Yahweh written on the gates of our hearts and minds.

Within this Torah portion, the term gates is used 5 times! 5 = revelation, knowledge something is revealed at the gates, knowledge is given here; its also connected to the breath of YHVH therefore His language Hebrew! There is something revealed about the Hebrew language at the gates!

The Month of Elul

This is the first portion read during the month of Elul. It is no coincidence because Elul enhances our view of the portion Shoftim, and Shoftim teaches us of Elul! Elul is the 6th month on the Hebrew Calendar. It leads up to the Fall Feasts of the 7th month and according to tradition, is supposed to be a time of repentance and preparation (a time of judging our lives by the Torah). It is a month of testing, and it is no accident that Yahshua is in the wilderness being tested for 40 days at this exact time (the entire month of Elul until the 10th of Tishri Yom Kippur). *After this He goes to Capernaum: Strongs #2584 village of comfort; from the root kaphar to cover, to make a atonement, make reconciliation the purpose of the month of Elul is the same for us as well, to bring us to atonement/the covering! And with the pattern being set with Jacob (covering giving him access to control the gate) so this covering enables us as well to sit at the gate! Elul: Strongs #435 Eluwl nothingness prefix = I will #3883 = luwl, staircase, winding stair, enclosed space with steps or ladder; describes a winding staircase in Solomons Temple. Remember that the Temple was built in the form of a man laid out in the earth. This same picture with the man and the winding ladder is seen with Jacob! Genesis 28 Jacob is laid out upon the earth and dreams of the winding staircase or ladder. The month of Elul proclaims, I will (reveal) the staircase/ladder/DNA helix of the seed of Yahweh! What does this have to do with shoftim though? Jacob makes a statement about this location Genesis 28:17 this [is] none other but the house of Yah, and this [is] the gate of heaven. Its a gateway, just as the judges and officers sit at the gates. If we will sit in the gates where the Torah is written, then He has promised to reveal this same thing to us as He did to Jacob! Genesis 38:12 And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it. 3

Seth: Strongs #8352 Sheth compensation, the one through who the lineage of the seed of Yahweh and His Word will go through, acts as a promise that the seed of Yahweh will be passed on. Elul is a reminder and a promise that though weve been a stranger to the Voice, His Seed/Word will still go forth! We will hear/see/understand His Voice again! And to tie it all together its His Voice/Word/Seed that goes forth from the gates! Elul is a call to stand up at the gates and proclaim it forth no longer are we to be strangers to this!
