Question 2 : Year 2004 The first to discuss is bilateral relationship.

It is where one country establishes relations with another country on mutual agreement. Diplomats are sent and treaties and agreements are signed. The leaders of two countries visit each other to strengthen relations. This is beneficial as this allows technology transfer from developed countries such as Japan and USA. This allows us to improve on our society and making work more efficient for all. Also, Singapore is able to further enhance political , economic and cultural ties with countries such as Indonesia. This enables Singapore to be more knowledgeable for handling issues. Also, bilateral relations allow us to hasten the development of Singapore both economically and socially, which in turns, allows Singapore to grow stronger quickly. Also, Singapore helped many countries when they are in need, Singapore dispatched doctors, nurses and teachers to developing countries such as Vietnam and Nepal. Also, in 2004, Singapore sent humanitarian aid to Acheh when a tsunami striked it. This allows Singapore to be widely respected by other countries and have more recognition. The second factor is the regional relations. Countries located in the same region come together to form an association, this allows the countries working together to be stronger and deal with other countries or groupings more efficiently. An example of this is ASEAN. Singapore has worked with ASEAN on many projects. An example is the education and professional exchange e.g Since 1993, Singapore has given technical training to 1700 officals from Laos. Under the Singapore Cooperation Porgramme, student in asean are given scholarships. This allows Singapore and Vietnam to establish important interpersonal relations and they are able to be develop peace between each other, reducing the risk of conflict that may strike both of them. Also, there is the environmental collaboration happened in 1997 when forest fires in Indonesia created serious haze problems in the region. Singapore and Indonesia in turned worked together to monitor forest fires through satellite images. With additional help from Singapore, Indonesia can handle the haze issue more efficiently, and giving Singapore greater recognition and develop friendships ties. Lastly, there is the international relations. It involve ties among many countries and groupings throughout the world. An example is the united nations. The UN aims to strive world peace, friendly relations among nations, solve global economic, cultural and political issues via international cooperation. Also, respect for human rights and basic freedom for all. Singapore has been a member of the UN since September 1965 and also received help and advice by the UN experts on social and economic development. An economic expert from the UN was sent by the UN to help Singapore in its economic planning and development. Also, Singapore has been actively involved in the events organizations by the UN. An example is UN law of the sea conference. It was organized to decide on the sea rights each country has. Another is the UN peacekeeping operations. Since 1989, Singapore has sent over 400 police, SAF and civil service officers in UN peacekeeping missions to various countries. Through this, Singapore benefited as she gained greater recognition as an independent country. I conclude that international relationships is the most important to Singapore.
