CONCRETE SLAB REIN

OneSteel Reinforcing has introduced BAMTEC, a patented, steel reinforcing system, which is as easy to place as a roll of carpet.
Developed in Germany, BAMTEC is a revolutionary new approach to placing steel reinforcing in slabs and decks. OneSteel Reinforcing is the exclusive licensee for BAMTEC in Australasia. BAMTEC: Reinforcing in a roll Incorporating finite element slab design and detailing software, the integrated BAMTEC system involves prefabricating reinforcing steel "carpets" to virtually any shape or size.

BAMTEC carpets can contain different types of bars, different diameters of bars, have bars at different spacings and can accommodate differing shapes and penetrations. Each carpet has only one layer of steel, which means if four layers of steel are required, then four carpets will be needed. Size Limits The minimum diameter of bar which can be used with the BAMTEC system is 8mm; the largest 32 mm (8-9mm diameter bars are Class L OneMesh 500 Straightened Wires; 10-32mm are Class N 500PLUS Rebar). The minimum bar spacing is 50 mm, with lengths from 1.5 to 15 m available.

NFORCEMENT SYSTEM

Design Precise CAD detailing of the carpets allows penetrations, awkward shapes and complex geometries to be integrated. Because the mat is fabricated under factory conditions, BAMTEC eliminates placement errors, ensuring construction quality is optimised and reducing the requirement for on-site inspections. Variable Spacing & Diameters Engineers often simplify rebar layouts to aid fixing. This is not necessary with BAMTEC, as the carpets can match engineering intent exactly, as steel spacing and diameters can both be varied to maximise efficiency. Sophisticated finite element modelling software can also enable more efficient

reinforced concrete designs, providing further savings. BAMTEC: How it is made Individual steel reinforcing bars are welded to flexible steel straps, which can connect up to hundreds of bars together. When a carpet has been completed, it is rolled up for handling and transport. BAMTEC: How it is placed When needed on site, the carpet is simply lifted into place and unrolled onto continuous bar chairs. The chairs are placed directly on the formwork for the first two layers. More continuous bar chairs are then placed for the next two layers. To simplify placement on site, the BAMTEC system produces a

concise marking plan showing carpet placement and unrolling direction, as well as any additional reinforcement and bent bars. Benefits Based on overseas experience, BAMTEC provides steelfixing savings of up to 80% on most reinforced concrete applications. As well as significantly reducing the cost of placing steel reinforcement, BAMTEC also substantially improves the speed of construction BAMTEC has recently been listed in The Guinness Book of Records for the fastest documented placement of steel reinforcing. World record performance At a construction site in Kempten, Germany, two steel workers from Markgraf of Bayreuth accomplished what many construction managers can only dream about. They placed seven BAMTEC elements with a total weight of 6.36 tonnes in only 42 minutes. If the time required for placing the BAMTEC mats is calculated, it reveals a production level of 4.5 metric tons/man-hour. In an eight-hour day, a steel worker could then theoretically place 36 tonnes of BAMTEC reinforcement, while a team of steel workers could place around 70 tonnes inone day: approximately five working weeks would be required to accomplish this using traditional steelfixing techniques.

BAMTEC & TRUSSDEK Even greater savings in cost and cycle times can be achieved by teaming BAMTEC with OneSteel Reinforcings TRUSSDEK composite slab solution. TRUSSDEK combines formwork and reinforcement, and offers unrivalled spanning capabilities and efficiencies compared to other steel decking systems in Australia. Summary In summary, BAMTEC offers designers and builders a new way to significantly improve the speed and quality of construction, while reducing the cost of steelfixing. BAMTEC manufacturing facilities are being implemented by OneSteel Reinforcing throughout Australia and a technical manual covering the use of BAMTEC is currently being prepared. BAMTEC carpets using 500PLUS Rebar are a OneSteel construction solution, which can help you maximise the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of your next project.
