exploitation, injustice, oppression and suffering. So God chose to reveal Himself in a second, more intimate way, by entering into the history of the human race He had created. B. In Scripture, through Salvation History 68.The Bible records Gods entering into a special covenant relationship with His chosen people, the race of Abraham, the people of Israel. I will dwell in the midst of the Israelites and will be their God (Ex 29:45). Again, we pray in the Eucharistic Prayer IV: Even when man disobeyed you and lost your friendship, You did not abandon him to the power of death, But helped all men to seek and find you. Again and again you offered a covenant to man, and through the prophets taught him to hope for salvation. Biblical Signs 69.God revealed Himself in stages. In the Old Testament, God revealed Himself through biblical signs made up of both deeds and words. He made covenants with Noah, with Abraham, and with Moses. He performed great works for His Chosen People, and proclaimed their saving power and truth through the prophets words (cf. DV 2; CCC 56-64). Through chosen men and women __kings, judges, prophets, priests and wisemen, God led, liberated, and corrected His people. He forgave their sins. He thus revealed Himself as Yahweh, He-who-is-with His people. He is the Lord, a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger and rich in kindness and fidelity (Ex 34:6). Today, through His inspired word in the Old Testament, God still reveals Himself to us, and inspires us to respond to His covenant. 70.Yet, even Gods revelation in history was weakened by the infidelities and hardness of heart of His Chosen People. But God so loved the world, that in the fullness of time, He sent His only Son to be our Savior, like us in all things except sin (cf. Jn 3:16; Gal 4:4; Heb 4:15; CCC 65). Jesus Christ completed and perfected Gods revelation by words and works, signs and miracles, but above all by his death and glorious resurrection from the dead (DV 4). Thus the Risen Christ, prefigured in the Old Testament and proclaimed by the apostles, is the unique, irrevocable and definitive revelation of God.

61.It pleased God, in His goodness and wisdom to reveal Himself . . . By this revelation, then, the invisible God, from the fullness of His love, addresses men as His friends, and moves among them in order to invite and receive them in His own company (DV 2). Christian life is based on the conviction that God has spoken to us and that the central truths of our Faith are given in this revelation. The Christian Scriptures attest that in times past God spoke in varied ways to our fathers 66.Our Fourth Eucharistic Prayer clearly exthrough the prophets; in this, the final age, He has presses this recognition of Gods Self-revelation spoken to us through His Son (Heb 1:1-2). through creation: CONTEXT Father in heaven, You are the one God, living and 62.But how does this idea of revelation relate to true . . . ordinary Filipino life? The answer is in our personal Source of life and goodness, relationships. One of the best things you can say about a Filipino is: Marami siyang kakilala (He You have created all things knows many people), or Maraming nakakakilala To fill Your creatures with every blessing sa kanya (Many people know him). On the other hand, one of the worst things to say about a Filipino And lead all men to the joyful vision of Your light . is Wala siyang kakilala (Nobody knows him), or Father, we acknowledge Your greatness: Walang kumikilala sa kanya (No one gives him recognition). So in our family relationships and All Your actions show Your wisdom and love, friendships we reveal our personal selves to others, You formed man in Your own likeness, and openly receive their self-giving to us. This is what uplifts the Filipino. and set him over the whole world 63.Now the first one to know us, the first one to show us recognition and reach out to establish a personal relationship with us __to become our kakilala is God. Only in relation to God do we become our full selves. Only in coming to know God do we grow to the full stature of our true selves. But how do we come to know the one true God? 64.Perhaps few countries in the world can compare to the Philippines when it comes to trying to make God known. Newspapers, radio, TV and movies are filled with new preachers, religious celebrations, public devotions, and never-ending appeals for new chapels and churches. Faith

through creation. The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament proclaims His handiwork (Ps 19:1). In creation, man holds a special place. God said: Let us make man in our image, after our likeness (Gn 1:26). God even gives us a share in His own creativity: Be fertile and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it (Gn 1:28). God creates the whole world for us, to support us in life and reveals Himself to us through His handiwork. Since the creation of the world. . . Gods eternal power and divinity have become visible, recognized through the things He has made (Rom 1:20).

To serve You, his Creator, and to rule over all creatures. Natural Signs 67.For us Filipinos, then, the world and everything in it are natural signs of God the initial way God makes Himself known to us. Yet in our everyday experience, we meet not only love, friendship, the good and the beautiful, but also suffering, temptation and evil. All creation has become affected by sin sin entered the world, and with sin death (Rom 5:12). The natural signs of the Creator have thus become disfigured by pollution,

Heroic action is doing the ordinary things in an extraordinary way. If you want to get in the news, you have to do something out of the ordinary, not normal. Because of th all too often, we forget the real heroes of everyday life. President Bush, in a proclamation he made on the 12 of Ju reminded all Americans of the need to pay tribute to these real heroes who are changing society from within.

"Fathers play a unique and irreplaceable part in the lives of their children and pass along values that he children grow into responsible adults. By providing their sons and daugthers with a positive example, fathers he give their children the necessary foundation they need to make wise decisions throughout their lives. Fathers strive inspire their children to lead lives of integrity, honor, and purpose, and they pray for wisdom and the strength to gi their children the love and support they need to achieve their dreams." (President George Bush, Father's Day Pro lamation, June 12, 2008, from the White House)

Sonora Dodd is the girl we have to thank for this great day in which we celebrate our dads. She lived Spokane, Washington. In her family, there were six children. Her father was a civil war veteran. Her mother pass away while giving birth to the 6th child. Not wanting to get married again, and refusing to send the kids off to d ferent schools, Mr. Dodd got to work on the task of raising his children. In 1909, as Sonora Dodd, then a you woman, was attending the Mother's Day Church service, she found herself getting distracted constantly. Listening the sermon, she kept thinking to herself, "Why don't we also have a day to honor our dads? After all, in my case, I a where I am largely because of my dad." Inspired by the example of Anna Jarvis and Julie Ward Howe, two influent figures in the establishment of Mother's Day, Ms. Dodd set out to pay the same tribute to her father and to all gr fathers like him.

It wasn't that he did anything out of the ordinary. He simply did the ordinary in an extraordinary way. The fi celebration of Father's Day was on June 19, 1910, the birthday of Sonora's father. It began as a local celebration a year by year expanded to other surrounding communities. In 1972, President Nixon would declare it as an offic holiday. Although Father's Day come and goes, may the spirit behind the holiday never go away: gratitude, lov honor and respect for the men who made us for who we are today.

"Thank you, friend Jesus, for my father who loves me, for my grandfather who cares for me, and for Go your father and mine, who made me and is always with me. How lucky I am!" (A father's day poem by Gayn Bordes Cronin)

If you want to get in the news, you have to do something out of the ordinary, not normal. Because of this, all too often, we forget the real heroes of everyday life. President Bush, in a proclamation he made on the 12 of June reminded all Americans of the need to pay tribute to these real heroes who are changing society from within. "Fathers play a unique and irreplaceable part in the lives of their children and pass along values that help children grow into responsible adults. By providing their sons and daugthers with a positive example, fathers help give their children the necessary foundation they need to make wise decisions throughout their lives. Fathers strive to inspire their children to lead lives of integrity, honor, and purpose, and they pray for wisdom and the strength to give their children the love and support they need to achieve their dreams." (President George Bush, Father's Day Proclamation, June 12, 2008, from the White House) Sonora Dodd is the girl we have to thank for this great day in which we celebrate our dads. She lived in Spokane, Washington. In her family, there were six children. Her father was a civil war veteran. Her mother passed away while giving birth to the 6th child. Not wanting to get married again, and refusing to send the kids off to different schools, Mr. Dodd got to work on the task of raising his children. In 1909, as Sonora Dodd, then a young woman, was attending the Mother's Day Church service, she found herself getting distracted constantly. Listening to the sermon, she kept thinking to herself, "Why don't we also have a day to honor our dads? After all, in my case, I am where I am largely because of my dad." Inspired by the example of Anna Jarvis and Julie Ward Howe, two influential figures in the establishment of Mother's Day, Ms. Dodd set out to pay the same tribute to her father and to all great fathers like him. It wasn't that he did anything out of the ordinary. He simply did the ordinary in an extraordinary way. The first celebration of Father's Day was on June 19, 1910, the birthday of Sonora's father. It began as a local celebration and year by year expanded to other surrounding communities. In 1972, President Nixon would declare it as an official holiday. Although Father's Day come and goes, may the spirit behind the holiday never go away: gratitude, love, honor and respect for the men who made us for who we are today. "Thank you, friend Jesus, for my father who loves me, for my grandfather who cares for me, and for God, your father and mine, who made me and is always with me. How lucky I am!" (A father's day poem by Gaynell Bordes Cronin)

PAYASO
Michael Barairo Balba

Sabi nila ako raw ay manhid, Hindi raw ako marunong umibig, Hindi ko raw pansin tao sa paligid, Pagkamakasarili laging nanaig. Wala silang karapatang ako'y paratangan, Pagkat di nila alam aking naranasan, Nabatid ba nila hirap kong pinasan, Nakita ba nila no'ng ako'y luhaan.

Maganda at makinis. Philippine/World News
Philippine Embassy in Seoul Reiterates Warning to Filipinos Against Illegal Matchmaking Agencies
By: Philippine Embassy Seoul Philippine Ambassador to South Korea Luis T. Cruz reiterated the Philippine Embassy's warning to Filipinos against agencies that act as a front for mail-order brides amidst reports that the South Korean Government is also set to crack down on interracial matchmaking agencies that violate local laws and use deceptive advertising. The Philippine Embassy reminds the public of Philippine Republic Act 6955 or the Anti-Mail-Order Bride Law, which makes it illegal for a "person, natural or juridical, association, club or any other entity" to "establish or carry on a business which has for its purpose the matching of Filipino women for marriage to foreign nationals either on a mail-order basis or through personal introduction." The law also makes it illegal for anyone "to advertise, publish, print or distribute or cause the advertisement, publication, printing or distribution of any brochure, flier, or any propaganda material calculated to promote the prohibited acts" earlier mentioned. Further amendments included its applicability to mail-order bride schemes using "mails or websites in the Internet." While matchmaking agencies are considered legal in South Korea, Korean law requires these agencies to be registered and to be aware of issues concerning interracial marriages and ethics. Amb. Cruz notes that many Filipinos enter South Korea through marriages arranged through these matchmakers. Many are lured by promises of work or a better life. As of January 31, 2008, approximately 5,000 Filipinos married to South Koreans reside in the peninsula, some of whom met through matchmaking agencies. "For most major cities in Asia, growth rates are too rapid for their own infrastructure to keep up with and the benefits of new investments and infrastructure have not been distributed equally," Kuroda said. Kuroda said that there is a $30 billion shortfall every year in the maintenance of urban infrastructure in the region, leading to greater deterioration of the existing infrastructure already more than half a billion Asians currently live in slums and air pollution is affecting the health of millions. By 2015, more than half of global greenhouse gas emissions will come from cities in Asia, Kuroda added. "Clearly, Asia's cities need assistance in coping with the physical impact of past and current urban growth," he said. "They need increased investments in sustainable infrastructure, which will only come through more appropriate and relevant financing options." As cities expand, they should plan the development of suburbs in advance to avoid congestion and environmental problems, focussing on roads, utility networks and other infrastructure, a study from the Manila-based bank said. Many developing nations in Asia should limit car traffic, develop bus services and provide for pedestrians and cyclists, the study said. Traffic congestion and greenhouse gas emissions could be reduced if automobile use is limited in combination with acceptable public transport alternatives. The study also said that cities needed to better control their waste and improve sewer systems, particularly as deforestation and climate change suggest that cities should plan for more frequent and intense flooding in the future. Sewers should be constructed where densities are more than 100 persons per 1 hectare (2.47 acre). Alternatively, a sanitation system made up of septic tanks and storm water or drainage systems could be viable, the study suggested. Providing access to safe drinking water and proper sanitation is another challenge that many Asian countries face, Kuroda said. He warned that the health, social and economic costs of the region's deteriorating water quality are likely to be high already and will only rise further if improvements are not made. He added that there is greater urgency now for countries to tackle problems with water supply management in both urban and rural settings. "Given the recent trend of soaring food prices, the urgency of increasing investment in rural water services to improve farm production and productivity has heightened significantly," he said. The Asian Development Bank last month announced $500 million in emergency aid for poor countries struggling with soaring food prices. It will also double its lending to the agricultural sector in 2009 to $2 billion. - AP (inq7.net)

100,000 People Migrate to Asian Cities Daily ADB

Singapore- Asian countries need help to build cities that can cope with the region's "unprecedented" urban expansion of more than 100,000 people a day over the next two decades, the Asian Development Bank said Wednesday. Half of Asia's population will be living in cities by 2020, as some 1.1 billion people move to urban environments over the next 20 years, said ADB President Haruhiko Kuroda at a conference on sustainable cities in Singapore. "Asia's rapid urbanization is unprecedented," Kuroda said. "Providing jobs and services while improving the livelihood and quality of life for so many city dwellers is an urban management task of a magnitude never before attempted by humanity."
