Pagninilay:

CATHOLIC FAITH:
Homily delivered by His Eminence Archbishop Osvaldo Padilla, DD, Apostolic Nuncio to Korea on the occasion of the 16th anniversary of the El Shaddai Prayer Partners Foundation Inc Korea Chapter at the Tongsong Auditorium on September 28, 2008.

Arch. Osvaldo Padilla, DD Himself of His Divinity. He became a human being. More than this, He became a slave for all of us. And He obeyed His Father for our sakes, even when this obedience led to His death on the cross. In the mystery of our faith, El Shaddai became man.

I wish to thank Fr. Alvin for this opportunity to be with you at the anniversary of the intuition of El Shaddai movement in Korea. The name el Shaddai is indeed very fascinating it is the name of God Almighty.

St. Paul put it so beautifully in those closing words of todays second reading: God has bestowed on Him the name that is above every other name; so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, both in heaven, on earth, and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is the Lord, the Glory of God the Father. The name of Jesus is a name which is above every name. May this name bless us now and forever.

Karunungan:
Nakakainis! Nakakaawa! Nakakaiyak!

Mans response:

Scarred People Are Beautiful Rev. Charles Cooke

I think I know what you mean, Lord. Ive met people like that and knowing them gives me courage. The great people are those who continue to love with their scars. I like scarred people, Lord. They are beautiful.

MGA PAGSUBOK
Amie Sison

Man speaks:

Ive been hurt, Lord. I have trusted and been betrayed at times. I have loved and received nothing in return. I have tried hard to care and failed often. I have shared my secrets and, heard them whispered to others. I have been warm and received a cold shoulder. I have been through it, Lord. Ive fallen on my face. Ive banged my shins. Ive been bruised. Look, Lord, Im all covered with scars!

The Lord Speaks:

Maybe you havent understood enough. Maybe you havent learned that human life is like that. All saints are scarred. Young love isnt the highest form of human love. The greatest love comes from scarred people. I know that many people stop loving so they wont be hurt again. But those people who do start over again, who continue in spite of all, who leave themselves open to the possibility of being hurt again These people are able to love again in a deeper way, a more understanding way, a richer way.

The Wounded Healer
Emely Dicolen-Abagat, Ph.D.

It takes a wounded person to heal another wounded person.

everything will be all right. They didnt realize that while I was telling them these words of encouragement, I was at the same time telling them to myself because I was also, at that point in my life, shattered and confused like them, that these words were exactly what I needed too. After sharing their stories and pains with me, I made sure that I hugged or embraced them.

A few months after I went back to Korea as a missionary, one priest asked me, Why did you leave your work and position in the Philippines? Why did you return to Korea and be a missionary? My spontaneous answer was, Father, Jesus, the wounded healer inspired me. It takes a wounded person to heal another wounded person.

There is a compassionate and merciful God who will always guide them. I have always told them dont worry, in the Philippines. So to be engaged in something that basically involves always having to deal with people is quite...unexpected. When I was in the Philippines, I was always trying to prove to myself and to other people about the things that I can do. Perhaps it was because I was born into a family that didnt appreciate me, or always marginalized my achievements. And noticed and magnified all of my faults. That I felt my goal in life was to prove to other people that I was worthy of respect. So I became defensive in life. And so, life became hard for me. It was like a battle all the time. on TV, a Public Relations Officer, and an English teacher. Many people would say that what Im doing is so far off from what I had studied so hard for and for so long. I graduated from law school in the Philippines, and I did it because I wanted to be like my father. Because I thought it would make him proud and that it would make other people respect me. I guess I can say that I had found peace in Korea, somehow. I especially found the Filipino community very helpful. I feel great every Sunday whenever I go to the center. It gives me a feeling of home. A sense of belongingness. I still dont know what lies ahead. I have my plans but then again, God does have a way of changing our plans in ways that we dont expect. I realized that I dont have to push too hard. I just have to do my best with whatever is given to me. We may search for things and chase after things that are wrong for us. And yet the very thing that we need is right before us, unnoticed. Its all up to him. All that I ask is that He could help me and guide me to discover more and more of myself each day.

Return to Self
By: Bevi Tamargo

Its my second day of work here as the Public Relations Officer of RAKSO Travel Corporation. One of my key jobs is to manage their website, www.onfino.com. It is a website for the Filipino community. I like it because it allows me to do something other than teach English. Ive been teaching English for about a year now, and I feel like I have reached my saturation point. I mean, I still like it, but I think I am ready to do something more. I find that life here in Korea can be quite challenging because of the language barrier. I found that there are lots of opportunities to teach English, but I also found that the opportunities are also pretty limited to thatto teach English. What I do like about it is that it makes it my job to meet and talk to different people in the Filipino community. I think that community is very important for any foreigner living abroad. As the saying goes, no man is an island.

But here in Korea, things changed somehow. Maybe its because Im far from the things that make me defensive. Maybe because in here, I dont have to fulfill other peoples expectations of what or who Im supposed to be. But suddenly, instead of trying to prove myself to others, I started trying to discover myself. I started discovering about the things that I really wanted, about the things that made me feel happy and alive. And who wouldve have known that I To be honest, I was very shy when I was would end up being a Cultural Ambassador
