HFCC celebrated the first day of Triduum, last Thursday April 9, 2009 at the Holy Spirit Mission House. HFCC volunteers, El Shaddai Prayer Partners Group and some church goers attended the Holy Eucharist celebrated by Fr. Alvin Parantar, MSP, HFCC Chaplain. Paschal Triduum is three days that begins with the evening Mass of the Lord's Supper of Holy Thursday and ends after the Easter Vigil on Saturday night or Sunday morning of Easter. As part of the celebration, the Ritual Washing of Feet was done. Twelve (12) persons were selected to represent Jesus Apostles. They were Bro. Tony Sacapanio, Bro. Arnel Maramot, Bro. Ronnie Silva, Bro. Rodelio F. Prudente, Bro. Henry Rendon, Danny Dizon, Jimmy Gutierrez, Johnny Maliglig, Sis. Letty Caravana, Lorna Lisao, Marilyn Mindaro and Usually, the Mass concludes Amy Bueza. Jesus, conscious of His divine dignity and against Peters protest, performed for them this lowliest service. His act of humility actually cleansed their hearts of selfish ambition, killed their pride, and taught them the lesson of love. Fr. Alvin explained on how our Lord Jesus Christ took off his clothes and wore the towel that was used to wipe the feet of His apostles. The clothes as symbol of His Divinity and the towel as a symbol of His humility. His actions serves as symbolic of spiritual cleansing and a model of Christian humility. Through this action Jesus taught the lesson of selfless service that was supremely exemplified by His death on the cross.

The Forgotten War: Synopsis


"The Forgotten War" is a 90-minute feature that tackles the exploits of the Filipino soldiers who participated in the Korean War from 1950-1955 under the auspices of the United Nations Command. The film recreates important battle scenes and shares the stories of the soldiers as they faced adversity in a foreign land, finding courage, dedication, strength and love amidst the tragic backdrop of war. "The Forgotten War" offers a compelling account of how close ties developed between the Philippines and South Korea and highlights the valuable role that the Philippines played in safeguarding democracy in the peninsula. The film will be officially launched at the National Theater of Korea on 14 April 2009.

Nagpakita si Jesus sa iilang mga tao nang muli siyang nabuhay. Sa Ebanghelyo ngayong araw, matutunghayan natin ang ibat ibang reaksiyon ng mga tao sa muling pagkabuhay ni Jesus. Paano sila naniwala sa muling pagkabuhay? Unang-una, ang natural na reaksiyon. Nang makita ni Maria ang mga lino sa libingan, hindi pa siya naniwala. Akala niya kinuha ng mga sundalong Romano si Jesus (Jn 20:2). Nakilala ni Maria Magdalena si Jesus nang tinawag nito ang kanyang pangalan. Sa sulat ni Juan, ipinangako ni Jesus na tatawagin niya sa kanilang personal na pangalan ang bawat tupang kabilang sa kanyang kawan (Jn 10:4). At nang makilala niya si Jesus, ibinalita nito ang kanyang nakita sa mga nagtitipon-tipong mga alagad. Si Maria Magdalena ang pinakaunang tagasunod ni Jesus na nagpahayag ng kanyang muling pagkabuhay. Pangalawa, ang pagkalito ni Pedro. Nakita niya ang mga linong ginamit sa libing, ngunit di niya naintindihan ang nangyari. Sa kabilang banda, sa kaunting ebidensiyang naratnan nila sa libingan, sumampalataya kaagad ang Alagad na mahal ni Jesus (v. 8). Turo ni Jesus, Mapalad ang mga hindi nakakita ngunit sumampalataya (v. 29). Malalim at matindi ang pagmamahal ng Alagad na mahal ni Jesus, na hindi niya kailangan ng iba pang patunay upang maniwala. Sa dagat ng Tiberias, nakilala din nito si Jesus kahit hindi mamukhaan ng mga kasama niyang alagad (Jn 21:7).

Maraming pagkakataon na ang karanasan natin ng Diyos ay malinaw at masidhi. Nagpapasalamat tayo sa Diyos sa mga malalalim na pagkakaibigan at pagmamahal sa pamilya. Nararanasan ng ating mga magulang ang Diyos sa panganganak. Nakikita natin sa magagandang tanawin. Damang-dama natin sa inspirasyon. O kapag pinapatawad tayo sa ating mga pagkakamali. Sukat hindi natin malaman, sa kabila ng ating mga pagkakasala at kahinaan, binibiyayaan pa rin tayo. Sa mga karanasang ito, ang patunay na kailangan nating makita ay malinaw. At tulad ni Maria, Pedro at Tomas, naniwala sila nang nagpakita at nahawakan nila si Jesus. Ngunit may mga karanasan din tayo na mahirap makita ang Diyos. Sa mga trahedya sa ating buhay, pakiramdam natin ay pinarusahan niya tayo. Sa gitna ng ating kalungkutan, inaakala natin na nag-iisa na lang tayo sa mundo. Kapag namatayan tayo sa pamilya o ng kaibigan, mahirap makita ang pag-aaruga sa atin. Madalas tinatanong natin ang ating sarili, Kung may Diyos, bakit hinayaan niya itong mangyari sa akin. Sa karasanang ito, mahirap maaninag ang presensya ng Diyos sa ating buhay. Dito, kailangan natin ang tindi ng pag-ibig ng Alagad na mahal ni Jesus: ang pag-ibig na may tiwala na kahit magulo at malabo ang ating paningin sa gitna ng ating pagdurusa, mababanaagan pa rin natin ang kamay ng Diyos sa mga ito. Pope's Sermon at Mass of Lord's Supper take bread in our hands so that through the Eucharistic Prayer it will be transformed. At our priestly ordination, our hands were anointed, so that they could become hands of blessing. Let us pray to the Lord that our hands will serve more and more to bring salvation, to bring blessing, to make his goodness present! From the introduction to the Priestly Prayer of Jesus (cf. Jn 17:1), the Canon takes these words: "Looking up to heaven, to you his almighty Father " The Lord teaches us to raise our eyes, and especially our hearts. He teaches us to fix our gaze upwards, detaching it from the things of this world, to direct ourselves in prayer towards God and thus to raise ourselves. In a hymn from the Liturgy of the Hours, we ask the Lord to guard our eyes, so that they do not take in or cause to enter within us "vanitates" -- vanities, nothings, that which is merely appearance. Let us pray that no evil will enter through our eyes, falsifying and tainting our very being. But we want to pray above all for eyes that see whatever is true, radiant and good; so that they become capable of seeing God's presence in the world. Let us pray that we will look upon the world with eyes of love, with the eyes of Jesus, recognizing our brothers and sisters who need our help, who are awaiting our word and our action. Having given thanks and praise, the Lord then breaks the bread and gives it to the disciples. Breaking the bread is the act of the father of the family who looks after his children and gives them what they need for life. But it is also the act of hospitality with which the stranger, the guest, is received within the family and is given a share in its life. Dividing (dividere), sharing (condividere) brings about unity. Through sharing, communion is created. In the broken bread, the Lord distributes himself. The gesture of breaking also alludes mysteriously to his death, to the love that extends even to death. He distributes himself, the true "bread for the life of the world" (cf. Jn 6:51). The nourishment that man needs in his deepest self is communion with God himself. Giving thanks and praise, Jesus transforms the bread, he no longer gives earthly bread, but communion with himself. This transformation, though, seeks to be the start of the transformation of the world -- into a world of resurrection, a world of God. Yes, it is about transformation -- of the new man and the new world that find their origin in the bread that is consecrated, transformed, transubstantiated.

VATICAN CITY, APRIL 9, 2009 (Zenit.org).- Here is a translation of the homily Benedict XVI delivered today at the Mass of the Lord's Supper, which he presided at today at the Basilica of St. John Lateran. Dear Brothers and Sisters, "Qui, pridie quam pro nostra omniumque salute pateretur, hoc est hodie, accepit panem": these words we shall pray today in the Canon of the Mass. "Hoc est hodie" -- the Liturgy of Holy Thursday places the word "today" into the text of the prayer, thereby emphasizing the particular dignity of this day. It was "today" that He did this: he gave himself to us for ever in the Sacrament of his Body and Blood. This "today" is first and foremost the memorial of that first Paschal event. Yet it is something more. With the Canon, we enter into this "today". Our today comes into contact with his today. He does this now. With the word "today", the Church's Liturgy wants us to give great inner attention to the mystery of this day, to the words in which it is expressed. We therefore seek to listen in a new way to the institution narrative, in the form in which the Church has formulated it, on the basis of Scripture and in contemplation of the Lord himself. The first thing to strike us is that the institution narrative is not an independent phrase, but it starts with a relative pronoun: qui pridie. This "qui" connects the entire narrative to the preceding section of the prayer, "let it become for us the body and blood of Jesus Christ, your only Son, our Lord." In this way, the institution narrative is linked to the preceding prayer, to the entire Canon, and it too becomes a prayer. By no means is it merely an interpolated narrative, nor is it a case of an authoritative selfstanding text that actually interrupts the prayer. It is a prayer. And only in the course of the prayer is the priestly act of consecration accomplished, which becomes transformation, transubstantiation of our gifts of bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ. As she prays at this central moment, the Church is fully in tune with the event that took place in the Upper Room, when Jesus' action is described in the words: "gratias agens benedixit -- he gave you thanks and praise". In this expression, the Roman liturgy has made two words out of the one Hebrew word berakha, which is rendered in Greek with the two terms eucharista and euloga. The Lord gives thanks. When we thank, we acknowledge that a certain thing is a gift that has come from another. The Lord gives thanks, and in so doing gives back to God the bread, "fruit of the earth and work of human hands", so as to receive it anew from him. Thanksgiving becomes blessing. The offering that we have placed in God's hands returns from him blessed and transformed. The Roman liturgy rightly interprets our praying at this sacred moment by means of the words: "through him, we ask you to accept and bless these gifts we offer you in sacrifice". All this lies hidden within the word "eucharistia".

We said that breaking the bread is an act of communion, an act of uniting through sharing. Thus, in the act itself, the intimate nature of the Eucharist is already indicated: it is agape, it is love made corporeal. In the word "agape", the meanings of Eucharist and love intertwine. In Jesus' act of breaking the bread, the love that is shared has attained its most radical form: Jesus allows himself to be broken as living bread. In the bread that is distributed, we recognize the mystery of the grain of wheat that dies, and so bears fruit. We recognize the new multiplication of the loaves, which derives from the dying of the grain of wheat and will continue until the end of the world. There was a man who stuttered very badly. He had never spoken a straight sentence. One day he found himself on a bus without any money. Desperate for a way to get out of his predicament he decided to exaggerate his stuttering when the conductor came along, hoping that he would pass him by in exasperation. As the conductor came towards him, he practiced stuttering. However, when he faced the conductor he said, I have no money, without any impediment, much to his own amazement. For the first time in his life he had accepted his stuttering and the acceptance had freed him from it. In everybody, there is a desire to change. There is a desire to set aside the less perfect for the more perfect; to rise after a fall; to better ones financial situation; to improve ones health; to overcome ones faults. The usual maneuver that we do is to hide the imperfection from sight or to try to remove it altogether. Wisdom is not in denial but in acceptance. Change does not come by hiding or denying a problem, rather, it comes through its acceptance. In the area of physical health, people come to see this fairly easily. Though they often deny and delay, people do realize that you must accept that you have a symptom and expose it to a physician if you want curative action. On the psychological and spiritual level people are less wise. They hide their fears and insecurities with all sorts of defense mechanisms and neurotic behavior. The whole objective seems to be to deny reality and hope that what is unpleasant will go away. On the spiritual level most people, in practice, use religion as a way of trying to avoid reality. They pray for their problems to be taken away and that their kingdoms may come. Prayer becomes a way for avoidance of reality and hence avoidance of God rather than acceptance of reality and of the God who is ever present and being revealed in that reality. The words and example of the Christ of Scripture, however, gives us a different message. He tells us, Blessed are those who mourn, they shall have joy. Painful losses do happen: They must be accepted

and worked through if we are to live joyfully again. In his own life he met all sorts of painful situations and ultimately he had to meet a cruel death. Humanly he shrunk from these horrible events yet he faced them with acceptance. Father, would that this chalice of suffering and death could pass from me; but not my will but yours be done. In accepting the will of his Heavenly Father, he was able eventually to transcend the limits of his humanity and rise from the dead. In the post resurrection Gospel stories, we see Mary Magdalene and the disciples caught up in their sense of grief and failure. Because they wanted the facts of the case to be other than what they actually were, they could not recognize the resurrected Jesus. The Magdalene can only assume that the body has been stolen and that the man she met on the way is the gardener. It is only when the disciple can eventually accept the historical Jesus, and that their former type of relationship with him is dead, that they can accept the risen Lord and the new form of relationship with him. Resurrection comes for us in the graceful acceptance of reality and not in its denial. I saw this recently in a young man whose mother had remarried when he was six years old. He had spent fourteen years of his life angrily fighting this intrusion into the relationship with his mother which he felt should be exclusively his after the death of his father. It was only after those years that he could accept that his step-father was an ok guy and that his mother had legitimate needs that he should allow her to fulfill. In this acceptance, resurrection happened for him. Prayer that is aimed at changing or denying reality only frustrates us and keeps us entangled in the very mess that we wish to transcend. Meditation, on the other hand, is prayer with an open heart and it disposes us to an open life-giving answer. (from Sundays Into Silence)

I became so materialistic. I thought that was happiness for me.. for everybody.. I lived a life wherein I was my own master, I didn't have time to listen to God's voice....or maybe I just ignored Him. My heart was full of pain,grudges and rejection directed to the people who hurt me.. people who criticized me.... people who backstabbed me.. all I can feel was anger...Lately,I have not been in good speaking tems with my sister.. it was really a setback for me.. all I could feel were frustrations. .. and I kept asking myself, am I not doing good enough for them?... she keeps saying that I should by now set my priorities in life. I was emotionally hurt.. and there were times when I asked God why they couldn't understand me... but last Sunday's mass gave a big impact in my life... as I previously said..I know that GOD touched me last Sunday.. As I was watching the suffering of What is most important is that we should put God in the middle of our life.. if we can do that, I think there is no reason to fall, everything will be in the right place..never lose faith in Him.Trust him and hold on tho Him... Let us all step out of our comfort zones....and offer all our acclaims and regrets to Him...He will never forsake us and surely we will find all the peace and happiness that we are longing for...Surely, God loves us....

It is called Sakura for the Japanese people, but widely known as the cherry blossoms. Between the months of March and April is the Sakura festival. There is a famous place here in Korea where the Sakura festival is held every year. It is where you can find the beautiful Sakura flowers and by just merely looking at this gorgeous flower you can experience the feeling of great pleasure. I had the chance to witness the full-bloom flowers of Sakura and I was enchanted by its beauty. The delicate petals simply suggest that it will only last for just a couple of weeks or even just days and cannot stand the changing weather. And so the enchantment will fade soon.

As I was staring at the beautiful Sakura flowers hanging on the trees, something came up to my mind. Most of us admire the beautiful things around us. More often than not, we are easily deceived by the good appearance of a person and give more importance to the beautiful things we have. Most of us crave for the unique things to create an impression that we are different from the rest and our taste is far more excellent than the other person. The same is true with how we look at the persons personality. We often judge people according to what he is wearing and sometimes pay more respect to those people just

Just like the Sakura flowers, outside beauty will fade as the time goes by, but the inner beauty will always stay come what may. And dont let our eyes rule but instead listen to our heart for it will make a just judgment. We should treat people right according to what is inside of him regardless of the appearance. It is said that through the eyes of a person that you can tell his inner character because the EYES ARE THE MIRRORS OF OUR SOUL.

The Agony of Jesus in the Garden: Reflections

month to our loved ones because they have nothing to spend, we have to obey our employers otherwise we lose our jobs. But the question is: are we doing them with anger, pain and resentment? Or are we doing them with joy and acceptance? The difference with the way we face pains and how Jesus faced his death is, according to Sr. Angel, Jesus faced His death with joy and acceptance while we sometimes face our pains with resentment. Face humiliation. Jesus accepted public humiliation: being mocked, laughed at, spit upon, kicked, hit, etc. Jesus humiliating and humbling experience strengthened him to face his death. Do we accept our own humiliations and are strengthened by them? Sacrifice for the greater good. Jesus sacrificed Himself for the salvation of the sinful and wicked man. His death on the cross is the greatest expression of unselfishness. Are we ready to give up our own comforts and satisfaction for the sake of others?

HFCC held its monthly Prayer Vigil on April 4, 2009 at 9:30 pm at the Philippine Center. The Prayer Vigil is held every 1st Saturday of the month. The gathering started with a talk by Sr. Angel Libron, SSpS. The exposition of the Blessed Sacrament followed and the whole celebration was climaxed with the Eucharistic Celebration. An agape was held immediately after the Holy Mass. Sr. Angel shared her reflections about the agony of Jesus in the garden. This is in preparation for the Holy Week. She led the audience into a deeper reflection of Christs passion in relation to the sufferings and pains of His people, in the context of the migrant experience. In her talk, she focused on the three (3) tests of Jesus while He was agonizing in the garden, namely: lose the resentment, face humiliation, and sacrifice for the greater good. Lose the resentment. There are things, duties and responsibilities that we must do because we have to. For example, we have to leave our family and work in Korea because there are no job opportunities back in the Philippines, we have to send money every

She asked the audience to imagine themselves as Veronica who wiped Jesus face. They were challenged to wipe somebodys face as Veronica and be a Simon to others, helping others carry their own cross.
