Yalisa British Literature 2011/9/4 Myers-bryggs personality test: Beowulf = ENFP Beowulf is an epic-epic of British literature.

The main character Beowulf fought against various monsters: Grendel, Grendel's mom, sea creatures, and a dragon. He had strong powers and fought fairly. If his enemy did not use any weapons he would not use any weapons. So what kind of person is Beowulf? In Myers-Briggs personality test there are sixteen kinds of personalities, made up of combinations of four letters of E,I,S,N,T,F,J and P. Which one does Beowulf belong to? The test result was ENFP. ENFPs are outgoing and they see the world full of possibilities, they enjoy peoples attention, plan their future, and follow their feelings. Beowulf is most likely to be an extrovert. Extroverts like to communicate with people, they enjoy having a lot of people surrounding them. It can be easily seen through how he is able to walk up to a king and boast about how great he is and what great things he had done in front of several people. And so it came that I killed with my sword nine of the nicors. Of night-fought battles neer heard I a harder neath heavens dome, nor adrift on the deep a more desolate man! (Chapter 9). Extroverts enjoy attention and he being the center of everyone's attention satisfies him. "N" is for intuition. Intuitive people like to organize their future, they like to plan and know what their future is going to be like, they value with possabilities and understand the world through connections between all things. Beowulf never just said "Oh I want to do this, I don't know why." He knows clearly that he has the strength to fight the monsters and win. Beowulf had his plan and knew what he was going to do. We can see this at first when he was going to Hrothgar for Grendel."And now the bold one from bands of Geats comrades chose, the keenest of warriors eer he could find; with fourteen men the sea-wood he sought, and, sailor proved, led them on to the lands confines"(Chapter 3). He brought his army and weapons and he was prepared, which greatly increased his possibility of winning. He planned for success. F is for feeling, so F people like to follow their feelings. A normal F person would not be able to fight against monsters even if they felt like it. But Beowulf's strength allows him to follow his feelings and fight against the monsters. No one would think that Beowulf is being unfair by using weapons, but when he fought the monsters he did not use weapons, he wanted to be equal. His feeling led him into feeling unfair towards the monster if he used weapons while the monster does not. "More I hear, that the monster dire, in his wanton mood, of weapons recks not; hence shall I scorn" (Chapter 6). This also explains why he went far away to another country to the Danes to fight Grendel at first, he wanted to help people. "Yon battle-king, said he, far o'er the swan-road he fain would seek, the noble monarch who needed man!"(Chapter 3) From the reasons above, it can be clearly seen that Beowulf is an ENFP type of person. He has Extraverted Intuition with Introverted Feeling. He walked up to a king and boasted about how great he is, he made sure that his possibiliy of winning is high, and while he fought against the monsters he would not use any weapons. Which fits the characteristics of an ENFP type of person: they enjoy peoples attention, plan their future, and follow their feelings. "Portrait of an ENFP." The Personality Page.
