For her, mission is simply immersing yourself to the people, experience how they live and struggle in life. But eventually, this dream of her becoming a nun fades as she finished college and graduated with BS Accountancy course. She luckily landed a good job in a reputable Japanese firm after a month upon graduation and this led her to any normal workers material life: pay check, gimmicks, shopping, and vices. And then, after four years of working in the Finance Dept. of the said company, they were visited by a former employee who is now a nun. This led her back to her life long desire and dream to become a nun. Without hesitation, she immediately inquired and asked for information how to become a nun, This, of course, necessitates her to leave the working world and join the life of the religious. But this never became easy for her family, especially to her father who is indeed against the idea. So, without even the blessing and permission of her parents, she continued on her decision to live the religious life. Inspite of the trials, hardships, and challenges she encountered in her tenure inside and outside the convent, she was able to conquer it and succeeded in becoming a nun. Also, her father accepted her and her new found vocation in life with open arms on her last year of schooling. Sr. Rosa reiterated that what enabled her to continue doing such things and why she keeps on serving the Lord and His people is because of LOVE. She always believes that the basis of everything is LOVE. The mission life is definitely hard but through pure and sound affirmation of this call, everything will become easy. Sr. Rosa closed the vigil with a reminder to have a right attitude and strong faith in God all the time. Never grow tired in serving the Lord God. Be prayerful and have a deeper relationship with Mama Mary .
The very essence a missionarys work is charity. It involves being generous with ones time, efforts, and resources. Being a missionary is not easy because we have to sacrifice some of our personal space in order to devote it to bigger causes. It involves the sacrifice of ones self in order to promote bigger ideals. It involves a community oriented thinking that considers not just ones individual goals but that of the society as well. In our own way, we engage ourselves in missionary work when we think of bigger ideals, and when we consider the community rather than just our own survival. When we act with compassion towards others and when we dedicate ourselves to certain bigger causes, it fulfills us in a deep way. When we begin to consider others, when we reach out for higher ideals and aspirations, our world expandswe expandwe grow and expand as a person. Being a missionary then is all about expandingof going beyond ourselves, beyond our limitationstowards bigger and broader horizons.

Sa isang artikulong isinulat ni Renante Beron sa The DollarMirror.com, naikwento niya na tuwang-tuwa siya tuwing dumarating ang tag-ulan. Tanda raw ito ng isang bagong umaga. Subalit hindi raw ganap ang saya niya dahil alam niyang sa pagdating ng tag-ulan, naririyan ang mga taong piniperwisyo nito. Araw-araw, tuwing dumaraan siya sa isang overpass sa Maynila ay nakikita niya ang mga batang paslit, walang damit pang-itaas at nagpapalimos ng pera para may pambili ng pagkain. Nakabilad sila sa lahat ng uri ng elemento. At tuwing tag-ulan, hindi na nila malaman ang kanilang gagawin, Nagsusumiksik sila sa isang kapirasong karton dahil ang overpass na kanila nang tahanan ay walang bubong. The only Christian nation in Asia! Napapaisip ako tuwing naririnig ko ito. Kaya nga nakapagtataka na ang isang bansang mulat sa mga turo ng Panginoong Jesu-Kristo ay tila bansa ng mga walang alam sa Ebanghelyo; tila isang bansang manhid sa kapwa; tila isang bansang hindi nabinyagan. Araw-araw, tila hindi na tayo binabagabag ng nakikita nating mga taong grasa sa kalye; parang ang mga batang sumisinghot ng rugby ay normal na at hindi na dapat ikabigla. Naaawa tayo sa mga taong nasa evacuation centers at lugar ng mga iskwater, subalit hanggang awa lang tayo. Siguro, nag-uugat ang kulturang ito sa mali nating pag-unawa sa ating pagka-Kristiyano. Madalas, iniisip natin na nagawa na natin ang ating Kristiyanong obligasyon basta tayoy nabinyagan, nagsisimba at nag-aabuloy sa simbahan. Sa tagpong ito ng Ebanghelyo, isinusugo ng Panginoon ang mga apostol ng dala-dalawa dahil tanda ito na ang misyon ay hindi lamang gawain ng iilang tao kundi ng isang komunidad. Hindi lamang ng Simbahang Katoliko kundi ng buong sambayanang Pilipino. Sa pagpapatuloy ng artikulo ni Renante Beron, napatanong siya kung ano ang ginagawa ng pamahalaan at ng mga nasa gobyerno sa problema ng kahirapan, sa problema ng korupsyon, sa problema ng kawalang makain. Tama naman siya sa mga tanong na ito. Subalit maganda rin sigurong isipin ng mga bumabasa nito ang tanong na ito: Ano ba ang ginagawa ko? Madaling maghanap ng masisisi sa mga palpak sa ating bansa. Subalit mas mainam na sa halip na manisi, tayo mismo ang kumilos. Hindi nakasalalay ang solusyon sa mga problema ng bansa sa kamay ng pamahalaan at ng Simbahan. Higit kaninuman, nakasalalay ang solusyon sa bawat isa. Kailangan lamang tanggapin ng bawat isang Kristiyano na ang binyag ay hindi isang minsanang pangyayari sa halip ito ay isang araw-araw na pagsusugo sa bawat isa sa atin upang magdala sa ating kapwa sa pagbabalik-loob, pagpapalayas sa masama, at pagpapagaling sa maysakit. (Mark 6:7; 12-13) "One Sunday morning, the pastor noticed little Alex standing in the foyer of the church staring up at a large plaque. It was covered with names, and small American flags were mounted on either side of it. The six-year old had been staring at the plaque for some time, so the pastor walked up, stood beside the little boy, and said quietly, 'Good morning, Alex.' His eyes remaining fixed on the plaque, the boy replied, 'Good morning, Pastor.' Finally the youngster asked, 'Pastor, what is this?' The pastor said, 'Well son, it's a memorial to all the young men and women who died in the service.' Soberly, the two just stood together, staring at the large plaque. Finally, little Alex's voice barely audible and trembling with fear asked, 'Which service, the 8:30 or the 10:45?'" (Original source unknown) Indeed, giving one's life to the service of the Lord can be a dangerous venture! Though it usually doesn't lead to martyrdom, as little Alex imagined, nonetheless the life to which Jesus calls his disciples is full of both great rewards and harsh deprivation. Just ask those first twelve followers to whom Jesus addresses himself in the gospel passage we hear today. "Jesus summoned the twelve and began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over unclean spirits. So they went off and drove out many demons, and they anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them." (Mark 6:7; 12-13) During the liturgies of the Easter season, we read from the Acts of the Apostles about the adventures of those earliest disciples as they obeyed the Lord's command to go forth and confront the unclean spirits and demons of their day. In our own day, the Lord continues to call his followers to do the very same thing as he entrusts to them the holy mandate: "Receive the gospel of Christ, whose herald you are. Believe what you read, teach what you believe, and practice what you teach." (From the Liturgy of Ordination of Deacons) This past April at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the campus of the University of Notre Dame, Archbishop John Vlazny of Portland, Oregon, ordained three Holy Cross seminarians as priests. Clearly, in his homily that day, the archbishop was addressing not only the three young men before him but also every other Christian within earshot. I share excerpts from that homily: "The story is told of an African boy who listened carefully as his teacher explained why Christians give presents to each other on Christmas Day. She told the youngster, 'The gift is an expression of our joy over the birth of Jesus and our friendship for one another.' And so when Christmas came, the boy brought the teacher a beautiful seashell. She asked him, 'Where did you ever find such a beautiful shell?' The boy told her that there was only one spot where such extraordinary shells could be found. It was a place several miles away and the teacher was quite amazed. She said, 'Why, it is gorgeous, beautiful, but you should not have gone all that way to get such a gift for me.' The little boy's eyes brightened and he said, 'Long walk part of gift.' "That is the way it was with Jesus. And so it must be with you. The Son of God came from heaven to a manger, from a manger to a cross, from a cross to a grave, and from a grave back to heaven. People ask, 'Why all this trouble?' And God says, 'Long walk part of gift.' "You too must walk the way the people walk, experiencing the fullness of life, the joys and the sorrows, the friendship and the alienation, the dying and the rising. Your long walk with the people you are called to serve will be a big part of your gift. "I heard about a young student who came up to a priest full of excitement at her discovery of Buddhism and her desire to convert. The priest said, 'Well, what would you think of a religion that said that God became everything that we are, so that we might become everything that God is?' She thought it was a fantastic idea. She asked, 'What is this marvelous religion?' And the priest said, 'Christianity! ' "Yes, that is the good news about our God that you are called to proclaim, by word, by deed and by your very person. The long walk, like that of Jesus, has already led you to embrace this conviction about faith in Jesus Christ..." Today's gospel passage recounts the first sending out of disciples to continue the work of Jesus. St. Mark writes, "Jesus summoned the twelve and began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over unclean spirits. So they went off and drove out many demons, and they anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them." (Mark 6:7; 12-13) And surely was it a long, long walk for those first twelve as they journeyed from town to town continuing the work of the Savior. So will it be for us who take our commitment to Christ as seriously as did the first disciples. We will walk with others even when our feet hurt and our hearts ache. We will walk with those possessed by the unclean spirits of our day, those who are demon-driven by a culture that sometimes seems doomed. We will walk with the sick in body, in mind and at heart. Our feet will hurt, our hearts will ache. But we'll remember the words of that small African boy: "Long walk part of gift."
