INDUSTRY PROFILE
The pump and valve Industry has different features compared to machine tool or general non electrical machinery industry. The manufacturing companies are concentrated at centers like Coimbatore, Hubli, and Belgaum. The major portion of the industry ownership lies with private limited company or proprietary concerns. It becomes very difficult to distinguish between organized and unorganized sectors as most of the companies deal with these products partly and no company has more than 50% of the revenue from this sector alone. L &T and BEML the minor players of valve industry account for 29.6% of the total market and has defined organized player. The 50% of the companies in this industry are private limited companies consisting of organized & unorganized sector and the rest are public limited companies. The average sale of the private limited companies is about rs. 20crores. The total industry is of 750crores with 40% of the contribution from private limited firms.

K.T.N.metals has two sister concerns: TECHNO CASTINGS: It introduces itself as a manufacturer of graded cast iron castings, alloy castings and S G iron castings. It was established in the year 1995 with having experience of more than 30 years from its parent company M/s. K.T.N metals. Looking in to export market in the year 1995 this concern was established. It is being looked after by the sons of Kallapa, Narayan Saple who holds B.com degree from R.P.D. college, Belgaum

U.S. ENGINEERING: It was established in the year 1997 as a proprietary firm, Uttam Saple being the proprietot of this concern who is the son of Tukaram and who is I.T.I graduate from government I.T.I college. Initially it was started in 2700 sq. feet with 4 lath machines and presently its business is carried on the area of 8200 sq.feet with 6 lath machines. It does only massing or finishing of the products and not production of the products.

NATURE OF OWNERSHIP
K.T.N.metals is being successfully carried on as a partnership firm

consisting of three partners as well as brothers namely Kallappa, Tukaram and Nagendra which represents the name K.T.N who were born in a maratha family in Belgaum in 1942, 1951, 1955 respectively, having basic education till SSLC, and who have passed experience of 35 years in the similar field, as at the start used to work in some other foundry for around 10 years to have enough experience and knowledge in the given field. All three partners have equal profit sharing ratio. They started their business with the initial investment of 5lakh rs and having 10-15 employees. Previously the business was started in a smll area of udyambag and slowly as the business expanded it purchased more and more land which resulted in the increase of its area of operation. And presently it is well known for its reputation build since 30 years.

QMS is established document implement and is maintained in the company. Top management will ensure the continual improvement of it for effectiveness with ISO 9001:2000. Material Department deals with purchase, sub-contractors and stores. The head of Material Department though the management respective issue materials as per work instruction and maintains records of the same. Material Department plans for manpower, selected sub-contractors and ensure receipts, storage handling preservation and issue of materials. Stores Department is one of the important branches of material department. The Stores Department receives materials in the following ways;1. Sales Return from customers. 2. Customer supplied product. 3. Material purchased for manufacturing. 4. Finished product.

PRODUCTION PLANNING AND CONTROL DEPARMENT PROCESS CONTROL IN PLANNING PROCEDURE:

1. Work order amendments are received from sales co-ordination department work order is studied. 2. Material requirement is studied and required material are indented and given department considering the stock of items. 3. Monthly production plan is prepared as per the procedure for planning (PPC). The material storage, which is required for the production plan is prepared and given before the last week of previous month as applicable to the material department. 4. Monthly planning and indenting is as per the requirement of material planning.

Material requirement for the production0 plan of sub contracting and rubber processing development prepare during the last week of the previous month as applicable and handed over to the respective section or departments.

As per the availability of raw materials and considering the process cycle, materials are loaded to the sub-contractors, which are required for the production plan and also subsequent monthly stock. 7. Inspection schedule for the month for the customer inspection are prepared by the first week of every month in consultation with the sales co-ordination department.

RECRUITMENT: In K.T.N metals. Centralized and decentralized recruitment is done. Centralized recruitment for management staff and decentralized for blue colored employees. For operating category they need SSLC or ITI passed candidates. They have both internal and external source of recruitment.

MATERNITY BENEFIT Ladies workers are given maternity leaves for 3months with pay. 6. LEAVE Every worker who has worked for 240 days or more for calendar year is entitled for leave 1 day for 30 days or more for calendar year. Leave is calculated on net present days. 7. PROVIDENT FUND Provident fund is paid to those employees who have worked in this company for 6 months. Total contribution of provident fund is 24% half of which is paid by the employer and remaining by the employees. 8. TRANSFER, PROMOTION & DEMOTION TRANSFER: Transfer means movement of an employee from one job to another. In this, company transfers are rare but the company follows initiated transfer i,e. employees are transferred for temporary adjustment such as leave, replacement and shortage of worker in any department and to meet other emergencies. PROMOTION: A promotion means an idea of advancement of employee from lower job to higher job. Promotion of an employee is done on merit bases this is used to fill the higher vacancies. An employee is promoted on his past performance, services and his behavior in the company.

DEMOTION: In case of misbehavior of any worker at work or alcoholic consumption at work place etc, strict actions are taken to punish the workers. 9. PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL Performance appraisal means the systematic evaluation of the individual with respect to his performance on the job and his potential for development. In the company performance of employees are periodically evaluated which helps to determine weakness and strength of employees. Depending upon the performance increment is decided. This performance appraisal program develops a sense of confidence to categories efficient and inefficient workers performance appraisal is done by keeping the records for previous year and current year.

HEALTH FACILITIES Cleanliness- Inside walls, ceilings, petitions, lops of passages,

staircase in factory shall be kept whitewashed at least once in every period of 14 months the floor shall be cleaned once in a week.

Disposal of water- Effective arrangements shall be made in every

factory for disposal of water.

Ventilation and temperature- Effective and suitable provision shall

be made in every factory for securing and maintaining in every work room. Adequate ventilation by the circulation and fresh air and such a temperature as will secure to workers there is responsible conditions of comfort and prevent injury to health.

Lighting- Where workers are working or passing their lighting

shall be provided and maintained sufficient and suitable lighting natural or artificial.

Drinking Water- Effective arrangements for sufficient supply of

drinking water for all employees shall be made.

Latrine and Urinals- In every factory sufficient latrines and urinals

shall be provided separately. Sweepers shall be employed for cleaning.

Spittoons- Sufficient numbers of spittoons are kept inconvenient

places and they shall be maintained clean and hygienic.

WORKING HOURS The manager has to display working hours and they cannot be

changed suddenly. He has to maintain adults register showing names and workers nature of work and time period. The workers work 48 hours, 9 hours daily with hour rest required. 12. WELFARE ACTIVITIES In every factory adequate washing facility shall be provided along

with soap. First aid box with prescribed contents shall be kept. The provision of canteen is not requirement under the act if the

factory employees are less than 250 workers. A balance and welfare officer is required for more than 500 workers. If any accident occurs, its notice should be given to ESIC office

and hospital within 48 hours.

BONUS It depends upon the company profits. As per the act the company should pay 8.33% bonus but the company pays 20% bonus. GRATUITY Employees who have worked for 5 years are given gratuity. MINIMUM WAGES Wages are paid to workers according to their skills i.e. skilled, semiskilled, and un-skilled. WORKMENS COMPENSATION If any worker is to be discontinued from his job he will be given a notice about this and he will be removed. If the company does not give notice before 3 months the worker will be discontinued with 3 months salary.
