famine forces the family to Egypt. Death is a danger to the males while the females are preserved alive. Great plagues bring about their departure. There is a summons to stand before Pharaoh. There is a return to the land of Canaan with great wealth from Egypt.

Sarai said to Abram, Since the Lord has prevented me from having children, have sexual relations with my servant. Perhaps I can have a family by her. Gen 16

The Lord said to Abraham, Why did Sarah laugh and say, Will I really have a child when I am old? Is anything impossible for the Lord? Gen 18:115

Sarah said, God has made me laught. Everyone who hears about this will laugh with me. So she said to Abraham, Get rid of that slave woman and her son, for the son of that slave woman will not be an heir along with my son Isaac. Gen 21

By faith, even though Sarah herself was barren and Abraham was too old, he received the ability to procreate, because he regarded the one who had given the promise to be trustworthy. So in fact children were fathered by one manand this one as good as dead like the number of stars in the sky and like the innumerable grains of sand on the seashore.
