YOUR LINK TO THE EXCHANGE

Message from the president

Welcome to the Ateneo Student Exchange Council! We are witnessing one of the greatest years of ASEC with 495 members - a record number in the organizations history. We have started the year with various innovations: a new logo and a new project - Indonesia-Philippines Youth Cultural Exchange Program. For the first time, we have implemented the fleet system and the newsletter, to interact, communicate and serve you better. I am very excited to present to you the first issue of The Ambassador, the monthly newsletter of ASEC. This issue will further elaborate about the organization and its plans for this school year and likewise, introduce the executive board and officers who will serve the organization. All the best, Hanyeo Yoo

WHAT IS ASEC?
The Ateneo Student Exchange Council (ASEC) is an organization committed in the growth of its local and international members as ambassadors of their own culture. ASEC aims to give opportunities, both local and abroad, that strengthen a sense of national identity, cultural awareness, and intercultural dialogue. Through activities such as local trips and workshops, ASEC engages members in Filipino culture and creates avenues for social interaction that can promote cultural relativism. Finally, it aims to help in nation building by providing cultural and academic opportunities outside the organization.

ASEC aims to provide Ateneans, other Filipinos and foreign students, an avenue of understanding in order to deepen national identity. It also seeks to expose them to a different environment through social interaction. By doing so, ASEC advocates open-mindedness and open communication, thus leading to better global

In order to strengthen its identity and to ensure sustainability, ASEC aims to achieve institutionalization through transition, planning, execution and evaluation.

DEPARTMENTS OF ASEC

PRODUCTION TEAM
The production team is composed of creative individuals geared towards the effective communication and dissemination of pertinent information through the creation and production of various ASEC paraphernalia. They deal with the overall aesthetic work of the organization and maintain rapport with members.

INBOUND STUDENT EXCHANGE

The Inbound Student Exchange Department welcomes the international exchange students with open arms and helps them with their transition to life in Ateneo and the Philippines. ISE does this by communicating with the OIR or Office of International Relations through its sub-department the OIR Coordination Team, so we can know the needs of exchange students before they get here (like tours, buddies, housing, shopping, etc). Not only do we get to know the exchange students and their cultures, but we get to show them how OZOM Filipinos are and what the Philippines has to offer!

MARKETING & FINANCE

The Marketing and Finance Department serves as ASECs arm in sustaining the organizations operations and projects through fund raising. It is divided into 2 separate teams the Finance team which deals with all the financial matters of ASEC such as the budgets, expenses, reimbursements and the likes and the Marketing team which is responsible in building and maintaining relationships with external contacts.

OUTBOUND STUDENT EXCHANGE

The department of Outbound Student Exchange is in charge of dealing with foreign institutions or events outside the Ateneo, be it an embassy, or a university, as well as taking care of ASEC members going abroad. Under OSE is the liaison for Alliance of the International Students Organizations, who coordinates with international orgs in DLSU and UP.

HUMAN RESOURCES
The Human Resources Department makes sure that ASEC stays a happy and healthy family of fleets. With the determination of a lion and a killer smile, your VP and AVP only want that YOU have the best ASEC experience.

This was the very first time ASEC hosted delegates from Indonesia for a one week exchange program in the country. Included in the program was a local tour to Intramuros, classes in Filipino language, music and dance, and a culminating ceremony that showcased both Indonesian and Filipino culture, among others. 10 lucky ASEC delegates were handpicked to accompany the Indonesian delegates for the duration of their stay.
