Installing Red Hat Enterprise Linux ( RHEL 6.2 ) Beta
Hello Friends,
There is a 1 major release oI Red Hat is about to announce. Don`t know when they will announce RHEL 6
but I have RHEL 6 beta. So I have written howto to install Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 steps. Hope this will
helps you all.
I have not used RHEL 6 that much, but my experience is not so bad as this is Red Hat product its amazing.
Graphical wise iI you ask me then I Iound it like Fedora 13 or you can say similar as Fedora. As I am using
Fedora very much so GUI base i have not Iound so much diIIerences but those who only uses RHEL 5 or
RHEL versions they are going to be crazy about it.
Hope this Howto will help peoples who want to install Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 on their Servers or
Desktops.
Read careIully and perIorm Iollowing steps to Install Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.
First oI all select DVD as your First Boot Device. Save & Exit From BIOS and Reboot your System. 1.

Select Install or Upgrade to Continue
Installation
AIter Booting Irom DVD you will get below screen. Select Install or Upgrade an Existing System and
press Enter.

II you get Iollowing screen wait Ior some time Ior Anaconda to take you Ior the next step.
Wait Ior Few Seconds.........

Select your preIered Language Irom Below Screen. I preIer English is good Ior all so i have selected
English Language Ior Tutorial Purpose.
Select Installation Language

Select Keyboard Layout.
Select Keyboard Layout

In Following Screen you will able to see 4 Installation Methods, Let me explain Methods here:- 6.

Local CD/DVD It is obvious that II you use CD/DVD media then Choose this option.
Hard Drive Select this iI you have dumped your source into any other Linux partition.
NFS Directory Select this II you have shared installation source shared using NFS.
URL Select this iI you want to install using FTP or HTTP Source link.
So For this tutorial and Step by step installation oI RHEL 6 we will select Local CD/DVD Installation
Method.
Select your Installation Method
II you are not sure about your media then Select OK to veriIy else Select Skip.
Test your RHEL 6 Media , Red Hat Enterprise
Linux 6

II your media is Iine till now it will take you to the Graphical
Installation Screen oI RHEL 6 Installation. please wait Ior Iew minutes

Running Anaconda............
Following is the Iirst screen aIter Getting GUI Installation Wizard Click on NEXT to Continue.
Click Next to Begin RHEL 6 Installation

Because we are installating Beta Release oI Red Hat Enterprise
Linux you will get warning oI pre-release version. Have a look at
Iollowing screen..
This is warning because you are installing
RHEL 6 Beta.... Pre-release warning

Now, For installating RHEL there is two storage options are available Let me explain bit...
Basic Storage Devices Select this iI you are installating on Local Hard disk or some local
Storage
Specialized Storage Devices - Select this iI you are installing on SAN ( Storage Area Network )
or DASD ( Direct Access Storage Devices)

Select Storage to Install RHEL 6 Beta
Don`t worry iI you don`t get Iollowing step, because iI your Hard disk is blank then only you will get
Iollowing screen.
Reinitialize Device......

Set your Hostname here. Remember FQDN hostname is always preIerable (i.e.
tejasbarot.ask4itsolutions.com)

II you want to conIigure network during installation then click on Configure Network and ConIigure
your Network by Editing Ethernet Cards.

Now It`s time to Select Time Zone.
Select Time Zone

Now Set your root Password.
Set your root password during Installation

Make sure your password is not combination oI
dictionary words other wise you`ll get screen as below.

Now We reach to the most Important part oI any Linux Installation, Its Partition time
guys....Not explaining any option because it is already nicely explained there on screen itselI. I
preIer Create Custom Layout because i can show you guys how to make partition during installation.
II you have windows already installed then please select this option........Select Create
Custom Layout and click on NEXT.
Select Create Custom Layout to make Partition
with our decided partition scheme

There is no partitions so this is the screen.......
Here we`ll create only Three Most required Partitions... You can create as per your requirement.
SoNow Let`s start creating Partitions....

Let`s create boot partition Iirst. Click on Create -~ Select Standard Partition, Enter /boot as Mount
Point, Enter Size 500MB, and Keep all inIormation as it is, Click on OK.
Click on "Create" to Create Standard

Now Let`s create swap partition Click on Create -~ Select Standard Partition, Select Swap as File
system Type, Enter size 2000 ( I suggest it should be double than RAM) and Keep all inIormation as it
is, Click on OK.
Click on "Create" to Create Standard

Let`s create root partition. Click on Create -~ Select Standard Partition, Enter / as Mount Point,
Select Fill to maximum allowable size and Keep all inIormation as it is, Click on OK.

This is the screen which is going to Format all your partition which you have created,
Here iI you are not sure then reboot your system without clicking on
any thing. II you are sure that you want to continue then click on Write Changes to disk.
Finally Writing Partition Changes to Disk

NEXT.

Select Packages which you want to install
and click "Next"
Installation has been started. 1ust get back and Relax for some time. It will take some time to get
installed.

II you have RHN Login then Select Yes Otherwise Select No, I prefer to register at a later time and
click on Forward.
II you don't have RHN Login Select "No" and
Move "Forward"

Hello,
Try RHEL 5 and You cannot compare Vmware with Hardware because VMWare loads in its soItware.
Scenario on Hardware is totally diIIerent.
You can check your hardware whether is certiIied with Red Hat or not visit Iollowing link :-

iI the problem is with hardware or graphics then why it get installed successIully on vmware 7..???

II you are getting 'clearing Iile systems that means restarting, RHEL 5 was running Iine on your
Hardware? Because I think it seems to have problem with Graphics or Hardware.

Another problem..
i`m planning to install RHEL 6 in dual boot, but when i choose toinstall or upgrade the system, a
black screen with blinking coursor likeappears. i dont know what to do with this.!!
i`ve used same dvd with vmware but it worked Iine there.
any ideas..???

DVD.. but aIter installation i added nic card on vmware.. but the thing is that its not
detecting..wen i take network connections Irom system~preIerences and trying to add a wired
connection theres no device mac address there.. how can i add nic on rhel 6???

Because /boot is not that much in use and nobody store Iiles into /boot.
You can also keep it 100MB.
