Frank DeCosta was born in East Patterson, New Jersey, November 19, 1943.

He is a dreamer, that is his

job, he lies in bed everyday for an half hour after he is totally awake, to make sure that there is not a single
dream left in him. That one dream may contain something that could spark the beginning of a new
creation. Ideas and dreams from within the deepest and secret most part of the brain are what DeCosta is
after. His art work shows his dreams to the world.

DeCosta uses the human form placed in a mythical or fantasy realm for subject matter. The human form is
the most complicated form on the face of the Earth. Each form is unique and interesting yet, they all have a
regular symmetry that is basically the same for all humans. A tree is complicated but, every tree does not
have the same symmetry. The human form can be improved upon, the more it is practiced the better you
can become at creating the human form.

The media that he primarily uses, besides sketches that are used for preliminaries, is oil on canvas. An
artist will try to achieve a palette that is his own unique creation. The palette will develop naturally over
time. The colors that are used on an artist's palette are one that will represent that artist's inner self and best
represent the artist. DeCosta's palette is made up of the color purple and it's compliments.

Frank DeCosta was not actually part of a group art movement but, he does associate with a loosely nit
group, that shunned the endless quest for the cutting edge and returned to more fundamental areas. His
brush strokes are precise, the detail astonishing, and the freshness of his work is such that it makes the heart
stop and the mind wonder in to the realm of imagination.

Society has given him reasonable acceptance even though his work is not fashionable or mainstreamed art.
He is surprised at the acceptance he has received even thought his art work in not popular and up on the
latest fashion. There has been significant recognition far from being renown or famous, that is only
obtained by very few people and is based on luck and circumstances. His work is an important standard of
fine art, in 1996 and future years to come, we should study his work to see how a true artist painted and
created work for all of the world to enjoy and respect.
When DeCosta was young and a budding artist he believed he was a genius, along with every one else who
was an artist. Now he has obtained the status which he believes he disserves for his work, which is a foot
note in late 20th century painting and artist. This is saying quite a bit, he will be in the history books even
though he believes that he is "Not a truly grate painter but one of note."

I meet with Frank DeCosta in his studio behind his house. His studio is any budding painters's dream. It
has everything that would be needed to create paintings of excellence. Every artist seems to be very visual
with every thing placed so that it can be seen, exactly as it is in his studio. I believe that Frank DeCosta is a
man with talent, creativity, intelligence, and prestige. His life has been painting and dreaming, eating is a
pain that just gets in the way of dreaming and working. His thrill is putting on that little touch of color that
makes the difference in the painting. Painting gives him the thrill not the fame or the money, even though
money is still nice to have and a little hand clapping is appreciated now and again. His style and attitude is
one that is to be admired and studied.
