NAD has always enjoyed a formidable reputation when it comes to budget amplifiers and tuners. The NAD Model 312 amplifier and 412 tuner, both a further refinement from the internationally acclaimed award winning Models 302 and 402 have been combined into the Model 712 to form an outstanding receiver with the added convenience of remote control. Flexibility As many as six line sources can be connected, including two tape recorders which also allows for tape dubbing. The pre-amplifier section can easily be separated from the power amplifier section (using NAD's hallmark Pre-out / Main-In terminals) for easy upgradeability, bi-amping or for adding ancillary equipment without making the Model 712 redundant. The headphone socket will drive virtually any non-electrostatic headphone. Convenience The NAD Model 712 is supplied with a full remote control handset allowing the user to operate the majority of functions from the comfort of their armchair. Using the NAD-Link connectors on the back of the Model 712 the supplied remote control will also operate NAD CD players and cassette decks equipped with NAD-Link. The tuner section can store up to 24 stations (12 FM, 12AM). These are stored in a non volatile memory which allows the preset stations to remain in memory even if the unit is unplugged from the mains supply. Auto-Search and manual tuning is provided for both FM and AM. Performance The high level of performance is achieved by using discrete circuitry for the entire power amplifier section. A generous power supply and over-rated output devices further lead to low noise, low distortion and increased reliability. Even loudspeakers with complex loads (such as low impedances) can be driven with ease. The Model 712 also incorporates NAD's acclaimed switchable "Soft Clipping" circuit which significantly reduces the risk of damage to loudspeakers due to prolonged high power operation. Unlike most other receivers and tuners, the Model 712 tunes in 25kHz increments*. This coupled with crystal oscillator controlled digital frequency synthesis makes for very precise tuning. As always, NAD refuses to compromise performance just for the sake of convenience, as is so common with most other receivers. The Model 712 is one of the few truly Audiophile quality receivers available at such a reasonable price.
