Waldo Clark and Joyce Anne Ferrell Clark with a beautiful daughter on September 13, 1969. Since that time, she has continued to be a blessing to her parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, grandparents, aunts, uncles, other relatives, friends, acquaintances, and anyone who has been favored by her presence. During her childhood, youth, and adult life, she participated in many organizations and ministries at her beloved Wheat Street Baptist Church, including the Sunday School, Scripture Chanters, Childrens and Youth Usherboards, Mann Memorial Choir, Handbell Choir, Graduate Recognition Day Committee, and Pastoral Anniversary Committee. She voluntarily mentored numerous young girls in the church about education, morals, Christian values, and future aspirations and goals. These are just a few examples of the way she lived her life though Jesus. Additionally, Carmen used her God-given talents to create her business, Expressions by Nicole. She invested her personal resources in her business to benefit her church, friends, and family in creating programs, flyers, cards, and other creative media. Her service to the community was extended when she was inducted into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, Atlanta Alumnae Chapter. She was the treasurer of her Pyramid Line and later served in The Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy, an educational outreach program. In addition to her commitment to her sorority, Carmen served for many years as a computer instructor at Carrie Steele Pitts Home, Incorporated, a private, non-profit, non-discriminatory, child-caring agency for the neglected, abandoned, abused or orphaned. Carmens instruction, combined with her voluntary mentorship, helped to fulfill their mission of fostering the physical, social-emotional, mental and spiritual development of the children she encountered. During this time she formed several close relationships with the young women in residence and had a very significant impact on their growth and development. Family was everything to Carmen. She dedicated herself to her immediate and extended family, always putting their needs before hers. She found pleasure in doing anything she could to make each one of their lives joyful. She was another mother for her nieces and nephews, especially Kaitlin and Darian. Carmen pursued and excelled in education, receiving her elementary education from Oglethorpe and Trinity Elementary Schools, and her high school diploma from Mays High School in 1987. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Spelman College, Atlanta, Georgia in 1991; Master of Arts degree from the University of Bridgeport, Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1992; Education Specialist degree from Argosy University, Atlanta, Georgia in 2009, where, at the time of her transition, she was a doctoral candidate. Carmen began her career at Morris Brandon Elementary School, where she excelled as a teacher. After several years of teaching, she was promoted to Instructional Technology Specialist where, as a pioneer of this department, she successfully trained others to integrate technology in the learning process. In this position, she went beyond the call of duty, significantly impacting the principals, teachers, staff, students, and parents with whom she interacted. Carmens legacy will be fulfilled by her devoted and loving family: brothers, Clarence Julian Clark (Jacinda), Kevin Andre Clark; nieces, Kaitlin Brianna Clark, Darian Nicole Taylor; nephews, Clarence Julian Clark, II, Justin David Clark, Kevin Nicholas Clark; aunts, Gwendolyn Ferrell Elmore (Clinton), Harriet Adele Ferrell, Colleen Clark-Abidi, Cybil Clark-Neal (Michael); uncles, Carmichael L. Clark (Shirley), Clayton J. Clark (Theoria); great aunts, Doris Strozier Parham (John), Gaynelle Strozier Byrd; a loving and loyal significant other, James Glenn, and a cadre of loving cousins, relatives and friends.
