1 Introduction
This document describes hardware (HW) and software (SW) compatibilities in a Radio Network Controller (RNC) 3810 that uses Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) technology.
1.1 Purpose
This document is intended as a reference when introducing new hardware and software in an RNC 3810 and when performing maintenance activities.
For information on personal health and safety, see Personal Health and Safety Information. For information on system safety, see System Safety Information. For information on RNC configurations, see Hardware Configuration Data. For information on RNC dimensioning, see Dimensioning Description.
1.3.1 Terminology
Table 1 explains the terms used in this document. Table 1 Explanation of Terms Term Explanation RNC HW of generation 2 denoted R2, generation 3 denoted R3, generation 4 denoted R4, 5 and 5.1 denoted R5 and R5.1 accordingly. R2 requires SW version P2.0 or later to function correctly. HW Generation R3 requires SW version P2.1 or later to function correctly. R4 requires SW version P3 or later to function correctly. R5 requires SW version P4 or later to function correctly. R5.1 requires SW version P7 or later to function correctly. A HW release within a HW Generation. The higher the R-state, the later the release. HW R-state For example, HW R-state R5A is a later release than R4C. With few exceptions only the R-state number is shown in this document, not the R-state letter. This is due to minor compatibility significance for the R-state letter. SW version P2.1. P2.1 For example, the R-states R8C and R8G are SW releases within SW version P2.1. R8G is a later release than R8C. SW version P3. P3 All HW that functions correctly in a P2.1 environment also functions correctly in P3. SW version P4. All HW that functions correctly in a P2.1 environment also

functions correctly in P4. SW version P5. P5 All HW that functions correctly in a P2.1 environment also functions correctly in P5. SW version P6. P6 All HW that functions correctly in a P2.1 environment also functions correctly in P6. SW version P7 P7 All HW that functions correctly in a P2.1 environment also functions correctly in P7 RNC configuration with 6 subracks.
F Node
The Software View in the RNC Element Manager provides information on which software version R-state the RNC system is running on. Select Upgrade Packages in the left-hand panel, and the right-hand panel displays the ProductID . For information on the RNC Element Manager, see Element Manager.
2 Boards
This section describes the boards within subracks. For information on which boards can be replaced, please refer to the Spare Parts Catalog. Compatibility between SW versions and HW generations is specified as All - All the SW is compatible with the board; Parts - Some functionality in the SW cannot be used together with this board or N/A - There has never been a need to use this SW together with this board.
