History of the world wide web

 1990, Tim Berners-Lee of CERN( European Organization


for Nuclear Research) developed the World Wide Web.
 He wrote a program that allowed formatted pages to be
linked using keywords (hyperlinks).

 Came up an with the idea to storing HTML pages on the
internet.

World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)

• 1994, Tim Berners- Lee founded World Wide Web


Consortium (W3C)
• to developing nonproprietary, interoperable
technologies for the World Wide Web.
• Is also a standardization organization.

World Wide Web VS Internet

• Many people use the terms World Wide Web and


internet interchangeably
• world wide web actually is a service of the
internet.
• Internet was developed in the late 1960s while
world wide web emerged in the early 1990s.

 The World Wide Web, or Web, consists of a worldwide


collection of electronic documents (Web pages)

 Web page can contain text, graphic, animation, audio,


and video.

 Web pages usually have build in connections to other
documents.

• A Web site is a collection of related Web pages


and associated items such as a documents and
pictures, stored on a web server.
• A Web server is a computer that delivers
requested Web pages to your computer.
• The same web server can store multiple web sites.

Web 2.0 refers to Web sites that provide a means
for users to interact.

• To save time, users can create bookmarks for


their frequently visited web pages.
• A bookmarks or favorite is a saved web address
that you access by clicking its name in a list.

• When enter web address in a browser, you

 request or pull, information from a web server. Some web


servers also can push content to your computer.

• Example: some web servers provide the capability


of displaying current sporting events score or
weather reports on your computer screen.

Hyperlink

• A link (hyperlink) is a built in connection to


another related web page or part of the web
page.
• Hypertext refers to links in text-based documents
• Hypermedia combines text-based links with
graphic, audio, video links.

consisting of articles, posts, in diary or journal
format.
•. Reflect interest, opinion, and personalities of the
author, called the blogger or vlogger(for vlog
