a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. -Proverbs 22:6 We must all work together as a team of educators to make this the very best place for our children to learn, have fun, and grow. Please remember that your opinion, ideas, and involvement are welcomed and necessary for our school to be the best for our children. PhD in developmental psychology Professor of Psychology at Pepperdine University Research interestsdevelopment of body image in pre-school age children, internalization of the thin ideal Has appeared on Fox news and on various radio shows to discuss her research

Interested

in learning more about how children develop beliefs about body size Do beliefs about body size differ by age or gender?

It

is important to teach children that EVERYONE is special, regardless of how they look In older samples, participants display negative beliefs about overweight individuals Teasing about weight/appearance has been linked to a variety of negative outcomes for children We dont know how early beliefs about weight and attractiveness develop

If these stereotypes exist in preschool-age children, it will be important to develop programs that target these beliefs In order to receive support for development of educational programs, we must first investigate the beliefs that young children have about weight or appearance.

3,

4, and 5 year old girls 4 and 5 year old boys All children will play 4 games with the researcher during the regular school day These games are designed to be fun for your child, but will also help us learn more about their beliefs about weight/appearance You are welcome to be present during the session or receive feedback after the session All participants will receive a $10 gift card to Target Please feel free to contact Dr. Jennifer Harriger with questions: jenniferharriger@pepperdine.edu or (310)506-4128

Speech by the Beach Info about LeeAnn: As a licensed speech-language pathologist, I have provided speech and language screenings to local preschools on a yearly basis for the past 7 years. The screening consists of a 10-15 minute individual assessment of your childs speech, language, voice, fluency, and listening skills. Many parents find it helpful to rule out any concerns, or to use the screening as a catalyst to receive speech and language services, if needed. Options for public and private services can be discussed should you wish to discuss them. Please complete form on back table and return with $15 fee to Lisaa lock box by Monday September 19th.
