Sub: On-Line Course-Registration Process- Guidelines for Students

Please note that: On-line Course Registration for July-November 2011 semester, shall be from 11-04-2011 to 29-04-2011, as per schedule as indicated at ANNEXURE-I, enclosed herewith. On-Line Course Registration WILL NOT BE APPLICABLE for: (a) students with backlog courses (i.e. having `F GRADE IN ANY OF THE SEMESTERS). The students with backlog courses will do conventional paper-based course registration, after deposition of Registration Fee on 25th July 2011, within 27-07-2011.

(b)

Terminated students. These students may make appeal for

re-consideration latest by 26-07-2011; and, if approved, shall have to do conventional paper-based course registration, after deposition of Registration Fee (after approval), within 02-08-2011.

(c)

For PART-TIME AND EXTERNAL PhD students only, On-Line Course Registration WILL BE OPTIONAL. However, such students who do not avail optional on-line course registration facility, will have to complete conventional paper-based course registration, after deposition of Registration Fee on 25th July 2011, within 27-07-2011. Registration for (i) Audit Course and (ii) Extra Credit Course, will have to be done through conventional paper-based manner, within 28-07-2011.

REST OF THE STUDENTS [ INCLUDING ALL PHD STUDENTS OTHER THAN THOSE AT CLAUSE (c) ABOVE ] WILL HAVE TO COMPULSORILY DO ON-LINE COURSE REGISTRATION, AS PER DETAILS BELOW:

Page-2 Now, before going to the concerned url (indicated below) for having access to online course registration, you have to proceed as follows: If you are using `Internet Explorer : Open `Internet Explorer `Tools `Internet Options `Connections `LAN settings disable `Use Proxy Server for by making the box like O.K. O.K. If you are using `Mozilla Firefox : Open `Mozilla Firefox `Tools `Options `Advanced `Network `Settings enable `No proxy by making the circle like O.K. O.K. Thereafter, please use the url http://automation.iitg.ernet.in/ in your internet explorer [version 7 or above] or Mozilla Firefox address bar (i.e. main address bar on the top of your computer screen) to enter in to the On-line Course Registration set up. Page1: Enter your Username, Password of the Web-mail to enter the registration process. Page2: Click on Student to click button Page 3: Your Roll Number, year, and Semester you are registering for, will automatically appear. Then click get data button. Click on Click here to go to Registration Page button. If the details appearing on the page (i.e. your `Name, `Programme and `Department) are correct, click `OK in the alert box pop up asking Have you checked the details carefully? If by default displayed details (Roll number, semester etc.) are found to be incorrect, please report to Academic Sections mail id acadoff@iitg.ernet.in and you will be allowed to do paper registration on the next appointed day for your Department/Centre.

Page-3 Page 4: To see list of Departmental/Science/Open Electives relevant to your Department/Centre and programme, please click on the `Course Listing button. Please note that HSS electives have been kept out of this domain, since allocations for these will be done by the Department of HSS on the basis of the Departments set criteria and preferences already expressed by you on the subject. Fill the Course Registration Form FOR ELECTIVES ONLY (available below the Course Listing) with appropriate course codes. PLEASE LEAVE ONE SPACE BETWEEN ALPHABETS AND NUMERALS (for example, you should write like CE 570, CL 613, etc.), in writing the Course Code since otherwise your entry will be invalid. Also, please note that course codes are CASE SENSITIVE; and therefore you should comply to this requirement strictly.
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO NOTE THAT IN THE COURSE LISTING, (A) EXAMINATION DATES AND (B) EXAMINATION SLOTS [ i.e. FORENOON, AFTERNOON ], ARE GIVEN; AND THEREFORE, WHILE SELECTING AN ELECTIVE COURSE, STUDENT SHOULD BE CAREFUL TO SEE THAT THERE DO NOT ARISE ANY SITUATION OF EXAMINATION TIME-TABLE CLASH.

For PhD scholars with PhD Thesis Works or Comprehensive Examination, the Course Codes by default will be displayed as indicated below: For example, For a PhD scholar of the Dept. of CSE, doing PhD Thesis Works (after clearing Comprehensive Examination) For a PhD scholar of the Dept. of Mathematics, with necessary approval for appearing in Comprehensive Examination = TW CS000

= CO MA000

[AS MENTIONED IN THE VERY BEGINNING OF THIS NOTICE, ONLINE COURSE REGISTRATION IS OPTIONAL FOR PART-TIME AND EXTERNAL PHD STUDENTS ONLY]. For choosing the elective, go to respective fields in the Registration form, click the check box and thereafter enter the course code correctly in the adjacent box. After entering all the electives correctly, Click Register Button.

ContdP/4 Page-4 Page 5: If Success! in Student Registration message appears, then that implies that your registration is complete. To see the Registered List of Courses, click on the `Status of Registered Courses button. You can take the print out of this List by pressing the Print button at the bottom of the page which automatically connects to the printer of the system. Please Logout by clicking the link which is present at the top right corner of the page. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU LOGOUT COMPULSORILY after the completion of your registration.

To see the status of Already registered courses: Go to page 3, then click on Click here to view Status of Registered Courses button. To Cancel the registration and Do fresh registration: Go to page 3, then click on Cancel Previous Registration and Re-Register button.

REPORT TO FACULTY ADVISOR

AFTER FILLING-UP OF YOUR COURSE-REGISTRATION FORM, PLEASE REPORT TO YOUR FACULTY ADVISOR FOR APPROVAL. PLEASE NOTE THAT ONCE FACULTY ADVISOR HAS APPROVED YOUR REGISTRATION, YOU CAN NOT RE-REGISTER THE COURSES.

Note:
1. Those who use `Internet Explorer , after completing on-line course registration related works, should again enable `Use Proxy Server for , to have access to internet facility. 2. Those who use Mozilla Firefox , after completing on-line course registration related works, should again disable `No proxy by enabling `Manual proxy configuration , to have access to internet facility. 3. ALTHOUGH A STUDENT BELONGING TO A PARTICULAR DEPARTMENT/CENTRE CAN AVAIL ANY OF THE 4(FOUR) ALTERNATIVE TIME-SLOTS FOR ON-LINE COURSE REGISTRATION AS INDICATED AT ANNEXURE-I, HE/SHE IS ADVISED TO TRY TO COMPLETE THE SAME IN THE VERY FIRST TIME-SLOT IT-SELF. 4. In case of any problem, please contact Mr. Manash Sharma (94357 31871) OR Mr. Naba Boro (96782 71605) OR Mr. Sanjoy Das (94353 47179). However, 11-04-2011 being assembly election day, you will not be able to get support from any of the concerned officials. Hence, if you face any problem on 11-04-2011, please try again in the next

appointed slot for you and, if required, seek assistance from them.
