Classroom Rules

Behavior Management

Rules are posted for students. When a rule is broken a warning is given. If the student continues to break the rule a card is turned. If the student continues to be disruptive a card is turned again.

Readers Workshop
When your child is receiving guided reading instruction, he/she is: Learning various reading strategies needed to become a fluent, independent reader Building his/her fluency & comprehension Practicing phonemic & print awareness

Math Workshop
Your child will work cooperatively & independently Your child will develop fundamental skills in addition and subtraction, patterning, problem solving, estimating & predicting, graphing, telling time, counting coins, measuring, numeral recognition, one-to one correspondence, sorting sequencing and number sense.

Writers Workshop
When your child is engaged in Writers Workshop, he/she is: Writing to communicate to an audience Building endurance & stamina Developing and refining grade appropriate writing skills such as basic capitalization, correct punctuation, and spelling Working on the writing process (plan, draft, revise, edit, publish)

Special Classes
Students will visit four special classes. Our schedule is as follows: Monday Music (A Week) Art (B Week) Thursday P.E. (A Week) Library (B Week) On P.E. days please make sure your child wears tennis shoes and dresses appropriately. On Library days please make sure your child brings back library books.

Field Trips
We will be taking several field trips this year. Parent chaperones MUST have volunteer clearance. Please fill out form if you want to chaperone the trips.

Grading

The electronic grade book is available online for parents to view. You must get code to access this material. Grading Scale:
E (90-100), S+ (80-89), S (70-79), N (60-69) U (below 60)

Parent Involvement

Please let me know if you would like to volunteer to help with classroom activities. Extra help will be needed in December for our holiday party.

Younger siblings are not permitted in the classroom when a parent volunteers for an activity.

Homework
Homework is assigned Monday through Thursday and must be turned in the next day. Please sign reading folders Monday through Thursday Please sign agenda planners daily. Extra projects will be assigned throughout the year. Review tasks sent home in Ziploc bags or envelopes.

Parent conferences will be scheduled at 8:00 in the morning or 3:00 in the afternoon. You can also request a phone conference if you cannot come to school. Please sign up if you want a conference
