OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL HIPPOTM VACUUM SYSTEM

DESCRIPTION Scomi Oiltools HippoTM Vacuum System is a perfect vacuum cleaning unit for your onshore and offshore application. Fully air-operated, it does not require any electrical power source. Portable and robust, skid-mounted designed, the unit can be use to recover liquid and sludges and ideal for cleaning ditches, cellars, and pumps. The unit constructed from stainless steel material to withstand corrosion. A suction force is created by introducing air at a specified flow rate and pressure through the vacuum head and creating a vacuum condition inside the main tank. When the tank is full, a shut-off assembly system will close the vacuum head thus prevent the unit to perform further suction. SPECIFICATION Tank capacity Maximum suction Air requirement Tank and frame materials Pump type Drawing and part name Dimension Gross weight : 30 Gallon : 17.5 Hg : 100 CFM @ 100 Psi : Stainless Steel : Air-operated double diaphragm pump : provided on page 4 : 37 (L) x 27 (W) x 47 (H) : 695 Lbs

CAUTIONS AND GENERAL SAFETY Isolate, tag out, and disconnect air supply to the unit prior to working on any part of the system. Lift the unit only at provided lifting point or handling by using forklift truck from the forklift pocket. Lifting from any point other than the provided lifting point could damage the unit. The structure on which the unit is to be placed must be capable of supporting the operational weight of HippoTM Vacuum System. The unit should be operated in a safe area where walkways, lighting, and handrails are appropriate and allow safe access for operating and maintaining the equipment. Ensure all hoses are in good condition, correctly rated and fitted. Air pressure applied to the unit should never exceed rated pressure.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS To operate the unit, connect the airline between the air manifold and air supply. Use a minimum of 3/4 hose suitable to deliver compressed air at 100 psi. Make sure all the valves on air manifold are in OFF position. The Chicago, or twist-lock fitting, connect and disconnect by pushing in and twisting. Be sure to connect them securely by twisting them until they stop and the safety clip pins are aligned. HippoTM Vacuum System is designed to work optimally at 100 cubic feet per minute (CFM) at 100 pounds per square inch (Psi). Air supplies that dont meet these minimums will drastically reduce the performance. Next, connect the 2 suction hose and 2 discharge hose to their respective nozzle. Camlock connection provides an easy connection and disconnection between hoses and unit. Make sure rubber gasket is available inside female type of camlock coupling. Standard unit supplied with 15 Lg suction hose and 5 Lg discharge hose. Instal vacuum wand kit at the end of suction hose and secure it using double bolt clamp. Carefully turn the main ball-valve at the air manifold to ON position. Slowly fully-open the valve to introduce air to the vaccum head. The unit is now ready for operation. Keep diaphragm pumps valve close all the time until the tank is full and ready to dump

Shut-off assembly system will prevent the tank from overfull. When the contents reach maximum level, this system will block the vacuum head for creating vacuum inside the tank, thus cease the suction force. The tank will need to be drained before unit ready for another use. Close all the valves now. Set out discharge hose to the discharge point, ensure there is no danger to personnel from the discharge. Slowly open the valve that deliver air to diaphragm pump. Regulate the air pressure by turning the adjusting knob and maintain at 25 ~ 30 Psi, refer to the pressure gauge on air regulator. Run the pump for a couple of cycles to empty the tank. The unit is now ready for another operation. Remember to shut all the valves OFF after performing every suction and discharge operation and always open it slowly

TROUBLESHOOTING Before checking anything else ensure the correct pressure and quantity of compressed air is being supplied to the unit. PROBLEM Unit not operating at all PROBABLE CAUSE Too low / high supply air pressure. Blocked suction line. Low supply pressure. Unit operating but not loading material or low vacuum REMEDY Ensure correctly rated compressor is used. Ensure air hose are correct diameter. Unblock the suction line. Ensure compressed air introduced at correct rating. Replace the suction hose.

Leakage on suction hose.

Tank not sealed correctly. Tighten the top-flange. Use silicone sealant if necessary. Material too viscous for the unit. Discharge line blocked. Add liquid to the material.

Unblock the discharge line. Refer to diaphragm pump maintenance manual

Diaphragm pump not discharging

Pump is broken.
