LEADERSHIP AND STYLES: Important leaders Raunaq singh O.s.kanwar Neeraj rs kanwar RAUNAQ SINGH: (founder) Raunaq Singh, the founder Chairman
of the Apollo group, was born in the year 1922. He was one of the first entrepreneurs who came to the forefront after India's independence. He led Indian business to great heights. He has been a great supporter of economic liberalization. Raunaq Singh founded and established the Raunaq group. He was the founder of Apollo Tyres. The companies under the Raunaq Group are Apollo Tyres Ltd, Bharat Gears Ltd, Bharat Steel Tubes Ltd, Raunaq International Ltd, Menarini Raunaq Pharma Ltd and Raunaq Automotive Components Ltd. Raunaq's early life saw a lot of hardship and struggle. He has held several important positions in various industry and trade associations. Some of the positions he has held include: 1. O.S .KANWAR: (chairman)

Onkar Kanwar is the chief architect of the company's vision and plays a pivotal role in guiding the company's operations and the articulation of its business philosophy. Under his leadership in the 1980s and 90s, Apollo became a professionally-run and competitive Indian tyre manufacturer. Innovation, quality and exclusivity are his guiding principals, which have helped the company achieve pioneering initiatives.

A former member of the Government of India's National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council and the Kerala Development and Poverty Alleviation Advisory Council. He is also the Past President of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Automotive Tyre Manufacturers' Association (ATMA), Director, Export Credit Guarantee Corporation of India and of the Kerala State Industrial Corporation.

A science and administration graduate from the University of California, Onkar Kanwar is a widely travelled individual and a keen student of modern management practices and their successful application in business.

NEERAJ RS KANWAR: ( Vice chairman and managing director)

Neeraj Kanwar began his career with Apollo Tyres in 1995 as Manager, Product & Strategic Planning, where he was instrumental in creating the crucial bridge between the two key functions of manufacturing and marketing. In 1998, Neeraj became Director and Chief, Manufacturing & Strategic Planning. In this position, he brought in overarching changes in IR management, upgradation of technology, benchmarking on product and efficiency parameters and the extensive use of information technology. In July 2002 he took over as the Chief Operating Officer, when he introduced key changes in HR and IT and in increasing the competitiveness of Apollo products across the board. He was appointed Joint Managing Director in 2006 and elevated to Vice Chairman in 2008 and soon after to Managing Director in 2009 for his initiatives in establishing the company in the global arena.

A hands-on manager, Neeraj Kanwar graduated from Lehigh University, USA, with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering and a specialisation in Management Systems. An avid sports person, he enjoys playing tennis, swimming & travelling in his leisure time.

Satish Sharma: a graduate in Mechanical Engineering from Punjab Engineering College in northern India, he studied management at the Michigan University, USA. Before joining Apollo in 2000, he worked in diverse industry sectors with organisations like ITC and Samtel Colour. In his spare time, he enjoys giving guest lectures at Indias premier engineering and management institutions, apart from engaging in the study of human behaviour.

Satish Sharma guides all aspects of Apollos largest and most crucial market India. Prior to this he was Chief of Marketing, where he is credited with Apollos steady sales growth yearon-year at a CAGR of 18%+. Known for his innovative marketing initiatives, leadership qualities and for having instituted systems and processes which have enabled Apollo to achieve and build upon its market leadership. A Chemical Engineer from the National Institute of Technology, Raipur, in central India; Satish Sharma has studied business management and international marketing at the Institute of Management Technology Ghaziabad and Indian Institute of Foreign Trade in New Delhi, respectively. He began his career with JK Tyres before joining Apollo. An avid sportsperson, he loves golf, running, tennis and travelling with his family.

Sunam sarkar: (chief financial officer)


This entails overseeing an entire gamut of activities, including the finance and accounts functions, compliance with statutory guidelines, mergers, acquisitions and alliances, corporate social responsibility and communication.

A Commerce graduate from St Xaviers College Kolkata in eastern India, he also holds an International Masters in Practicing Management from Lancaster University, UK.
