Demonstration Class Mini Thematic Unit: Methods: Multiple Intelligences and Cooperative Learning

1. Lesson Plan: Monday


Objective: After previously watching Iron Man 2 and reading aloud the short
story My Brothers Great Invention the students will discuss the similarities between the movie and the story, and write a 5 sentence paragraph about it. 10 min: Initial Activity: List the 3 favorite inventions from the movie. Read them out load and discuss why they were your favorite. L.S. 8.1: 20 min: Developmental Activity: The students will do guided reading of the story My Brothers Great Invention 20 min: Closing activity The students will divide in groups of 3- 4 and discuss the similarities between the movie and the story and write a 5 sentence paragraph. W 8.1 Assessment: hand in their paragraph.

2. Lesson Plan: Tuesday


Objective: After having discussed the similarities between Iron Man 2 and the
short story My Bothers Great Invention the students will be divided in group of 4 to 5 and prepare a written draft explaining a possible invention that could help humanity. 10 min. Initial Activity: Select from the categories provided and write 3 sentences to explain how the category could be used as a possible invention. List of invention
Visual/Spatial: Draw schematics of an invention of your choice. Linguistic: Write an introduction to your invention and present to the class; be ready to write a short description of each student's invention. Musical: Invent a song using invented instruments made from classroom materials. Body/Kinesthetic: Become inventors-Act out their inventions and allow the other students to guess the invention. Spatial: Grab bag of materials-How many different uses can you make of the materials? Interpersonal (Team): Work as a video team to produce a film-Build props and scenery; Make the film a series of interviews of the famous men and women. Intrapersonal (Self): Library search on famous inventors-Create a video role playing famous inventors and their discoveries. Logic/Problem-solving: Determine the sequence of steps for the building of an invention. Naturalistic: Create plant hybrids.

L.S. 8.3: 30 min: Developmental Activity: The student will be divided into groups of 4 to 5 and will combine their different inventions to create a final possible invention that could help humanity. W. 8.1: 10 min: Closing activity: The student will write a draft explaining their invention. Assessment: Hand in the draft.

3. Lesson Plan: Wednesday

Objective: After preparing a draft on a possible invention that could help


humanity, the students will present their possible invention in front of the class. W.8.5: 15 min: Initial Activity: the students will correct and finish their draft. L.S.8.5: 30 min Developmental Activity: The students will present their invention in front of the class. 5 min: Closing Activity: A class discussion about which invention will be ow the inventions can be used to benefit humanity. Assessment: Final Draft
