ation of sensory stimuli based chiefly on memory the neurological processes by which such recognition and interpretation are effected Another meaning insight, intuition, or knowledge gained by perceiving the capacity for such insight Perceive - definition To become aware of directly through any of the senses, especially sight or hearing To achieve understanding of; apprehend. Structure of ear There are three parts of ear that we need to be aware of: outer ear, middle ear and inner ear. 1. The outer ear is called pinna; it collects and transmits the sound to the middle ear through the auditory canal. 2. At the end of auditory canal there is a thin membrane called eardrum/tympanic membrane. The eardrum moves inward and outward as the compression or rarefaction reaches it. In this way the eardrum vibrates. These vibrations are amplified by the three bones namely the hammer (malleus), anvil (incus) and stirrup (stapes) in the middle ear. 3. The middle ear transmits these vibrations to the inner ear. Inside the inner ear, the vibrations or the pressure vibration are converted into electrical signals by the cochlea. These electrical signals are sent to the brain via the auditory nerve and the brain interprets them as sound. http://www.tutorvista.com/content/science/science-i/sound/structure-ear.php http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ear http://filmsound.org/ http://hem.passagen.se/filmljud/filmsound.htm

To know what business that sound (or that image) has there.
What is for the eye must not duplicate what is for the ear. If the eye is entirely won, give nothing or almost nothing to the ear*. One can not be at the same time all eye and all ear. When a sound can replace an image, cut the image or neutralize it. The ear goes more toward the within, the eye toward the outer. A sound must never come to the help of a image, nor an image to help the of sound. If a sound is the obligatory complement of an image, give preponderance either to the sound or to the image. If equal, they damage or kill each other, as e say of colors Image and sound must not support each other, but must work each in turn through a sort of relay. The eye solicited alone makes the ear impatient, the ear solicited alone ,makes the eye impatient. Use these impatiences. Power of the cinematographer who appeals to the senses in governable way. Against the tactics of speed, of noise, set tactics of slowness, of silence

And vice versa, if the ear is entirely won, give nothing to the eye.

Walter Murch about added value "Whatever virtues sound brings to the film are largely perceived and appreciated by the audience in visual terms - the better the sound, the better the image" Sound is waves (emission) coming from a vibrating source (emitter). Sounds appear to be explained by reference to the objects that "cause" them Sound Emitter = Sound Source Sound Emission = Sound Waves Sounds of Illusions http://hem.passagen.se/filmljud/filmsound.htm http://www.techspikes.com/2008/03/the-virtual-barbershop-behind-the-scenes/ How the virtual barbershop was done http://www.qsound.com/demos/binaural-audio.htm Referencing to virtual barbershop.
