Spiritual Reflection
Forward
The Israelites were destitute, depressed, and without a vision for their future. God raised up Haggai to caste a vision of a great temple, whose glory would far surpass anything they had seen in the past. When we focus on the past we remain in the past. For most people, they have a difficult time focusing in positive ways on the future. Many do not have a vision for their life, their vocation or family, or their church. How do we begin with the end in mind? How do we stay the course and keep looking to the future? Why is vision so important to our healing, renewal, and growth? The first and primary aspect of vision is that it glorifies God. I believe the first task of the church is to turn to God for vision particularly when a dramatic change takes place. God is doing a new thing. Our primary focus must be on prayer as we seek direction for our lives and for the ministries that align our vision and mission. According to a study by perceptive culture watcher George Barna, he proposes from an extensive research that there are nine characteristics of successful visions to moving churches forward (The Power of Vision, Discover and Apply Gods Vision, 86-92). First, Vision is Inspiring: Vision is the best of our collective stories and connects them to an individuals unique identity and passion for ministry. Second, Vision is long-term: It is a God-size vision that carries ministry into years of focused effort. While vision is not locked in it is sustainable over the long haul. Third, Vision is customized: We are not to be a cookiecutter of any other church, nor can we be. We have a unique set of skills, spiritual gifts, passions and talents including our unique location and facilities that require

A Note of Thanks
To Jarrettown United Methodist Church Congregation
Dear Friends: We want to thank you for your generous contribution of school supplies, book bags, and reading books. As we begin our 14th year, we are seeing the effects of the state and cities financial crises. Your support is very much appreciated by the children and staff of St. Philip's. The gifts are key in helping us maintain a quality education that has been recognized by the city of Philadelphia. You may have read the Philadelphia School District is in a crises of it's own, therefore every bit of help we can give our students to succeed is of vital importance. Literacy is part of both our summer camp and after school program. The books that the children received are theirs to take home and keep. We also strive to bring God into the children's lives by sharing His love and the love of others like yourselves. Again we thank you and remind you - that you have an open invitation to visit us and meet the children and staff. May God richly bless each of you and your families. Sincerely, Nancy Wolfe St. Philip's

What an awesome summer we had as a youth ministry! Last month, we told you all about our great JR High Mission Trip to Ocean Grove. Now, we want to share with you the great and amazing things that the Lord did with our SR High group in NYC this past July. On July 17 22, 14 students and 4 leaders ventured in Mount Vernon, NY for a week of serving the Lord. We spent six days working with the Mount Vernon Alliance Church. Our students participated in prayer walks, park ministry, light construction, cleaning and organizing the church and much more. We were able to meet people on the street and pray with them, as well as share with them our story and hear their story. One of our students got saved by giving her life to Christ! Praise the Lord! Our team also spent a great amount of time in prayer and worship, focusing on what the Lord wants for our lives. We grew in our relationship the Christ and in our relationships with one another and it was an awesome trip! Check out the pictures from this awesome trip! After an awesome summer of fellowship, amazing mission trips and discipleship, we are all set for the Fall! We have youth group kick-offs, paintball days, a fall retreat and much more planned. Stay tuned for more details! Blessings! Nick Agazarian Youth Pastor jumcyouth@comcast.net
