What is Lime?
Description Some people think that lime is same with lemon. But is not true. Lime (Citrus aurantifolia) is about half size of lemon, 3-6cm, with a smoother, thinner rind, having a greenish tinge in its yellow. They are either oval or round, sweet or sour. Lime contains by far more vitamin C than the lemon. Origin and growth place Lime comes from Southeast Asia. Today it is cultivated in many tropical countries such as Florida, Brazil, Mexico and Egypt. Composition Like the other fruits, lime contains of Carbohydrates, Sugars, Dietary fiber, Fat, Protein, Water, but I want to mark up that lime contains of 48% of Vitamin C. Vitamin C is a vital component of the human diet for it performs numerous essential functions in the body. It is an antioxidant, donates electrons to important enzymes, reduces oxidative stress, synthesizes neurotransmitters and collagen, and boosts the human immune system. Vitamin B9 is also contained in lime. Vitamin B9 (also called folacin and folic acid) is important for the healthy functioning of numerous body organs and systems, including human reproduction (where it prevents birth defects). This fruit also contained by limonene. This phytochemical are potent detoxifiers with anti-biotic effect that is protective against bacterial poisoning.

Some medications are changed and broken down by the liver. Lime juice might decrease how quickly the liver breaks down some medications. Drinking lime juice while taking some medications that are broken down by the liver can increase the effects and side effects of these medications. Using lime oil along with medications that increase sensitivity to sunlight could increase the chances of sunburn, and blistering or rashes on areas of skin exposed to sunlight.
