PROFILE

1. General Profile:

Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology (CIPET) is an

autonomous Institute under the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Ministry of
Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India. CIPET Head Quarters was established at
Madras in 1968 with UNDP assistance. This is the only institute of its kind in India where all the
facilities like design, tooling, processing and testing of plastics are available under one roof.
CIPET caters to the needs of plastic industries through manpower training, processing, design
and CAD/CAM/CAE, testing, consultancy, advisory and developmental services.

To meet the growing needs of plastics conversion industry, CIPET has established
extension centres in various States of the country. Each centre of CIPET has been equipped with
state-of-the-art machinery in the area of mould/product design and development, CAD, plastics
processing and testing/quality control. Apart from developing training manpower and technical
services for plastics industries, each centre has been entrusted with a specific thrust area for
development.

The thrust area of each centre is given below:-

1. Madras (HQ) : Standardization, Quality control & testing of plastics materials and products.
2. Ahmedabad : Development of plastics processing machinery & testing equipments
3. Amritsar : Substitution of plastics for conventional materials
4. Bhubaneswar : Application of plastics in housing and packaging
5. Bhopal : Application of plastics in agriculture
6. Hyderabad : Application & development of engineering plastics

MANPOWER TRAINING
Worldwide, plastics manufacturing and processing industries have grown
tremendously in the last decade. The plastics industry in India is predominantly in the small-scale
sector employing mostly unskilled and untrained manpower. Besides the increased consumption
of plastics for various consumer applications, use of plastics in the field of automobiles,
agriculture, water management, plasticulture etc., is also increasing rapidly. Due to globalisation
of Indian economy and joint ventures with leading industries from the developed countries, there
is a growing demand for improving the quality of products on par with the international
standards. The demand for quality improvement and economic production can be met through
development/induction of trained manpower. CIPET has complete infrastructural facilities to
provide training in the areas of Design, Tool Room, Processing, Testing and CAD/CAM/CAE to
develop technically trained manpower through long-term and short-term training programmes.

TECHNICAL SERVICES

The Plastics Testing Centre (PTC) in CIPET is well equipped with all modern
plastics testing facilities. These facilities are being utilized effectively to improve the standard
and quality of plastics materials / products. The PTC has been providing very useful services to
the plastic conversion industries by testing of raw materials and finished products like pipes,
containers, squatting pans, films etc. The testing services also include identification and
characterization, composition of materials, grade selection, property evaluation formulation and
supplementing standards etc. The centre is closely associated with Bureau of Indian Standards
(BIS) for establishing standards and to issue certificates for various plastic materials and
products. The institute is appointed as an agency for testing of pipes and other materials supplied
for Water and drainage departments. The PTC also has interaction with International Standards
Organization (ISO) in the formulation of standards.

The PTC in CIPET is recognized by the following institutions

organisation.

1. Bureau of Indian Standards.

Many new applications of plastics are identified in specialized areas like

electronics, automobiles, aerospace etc. This has necessitated the use of expertise in the design
and tooling facility. To develop product designs and fabricate moulds, orders from various
industries are received. Many of the fabrication works undertaken by CIPET are in the nature of
import substitution. These design and fabrication works are done by trainees, which subject them
to rigorous training. Many Govt. undertakings and institutions are approaching CIPET
to manufacture intricate moulds. Besides fabrication of moulds, the tool room also undertakes
job orders of varying magnitude such as repair of moulds & dies, grinding, drilling, designing,
development of jigs & fixtures, tool parts etc.

Introduction - HAL was formed by Let Seth Walchand Hirachand on 23rd December 1940

originally known as Hindustan Aircraft Ltd. It first started manufacturing rail coaches as a

subsidiary business in 1946 HAL First produced rail coach model 404 delivered to Railway

board on 24th January 1949. In 1964 Hindustan Aircraft Ltd and Aerolines Ltd merged to form

'Hindustan Aeronautics Limited'. HAL established it's helicopter division in July 1970 at

Bangalore under which it licensed for production of 'Cheeta' and 'Chetak' helicopters. HAL

designed it's first fighter and strike aircraft Ajeet on 6th March 1975 and licensed for

manufacturing Jugular strike aircraft in 1979.

For repair and overhaul of marine gas turbine Industrial and Marine gas turbine

(IMGT) division was established in 1998.

Today HAL is globally competitive aerospace industry having 13 production

division, 9 research and development division. It has it's division at Bangalore, Hyderabad,

Kanpur, Karapat, Lacknow, Nashik and Korwa. All divisions have an approximately 35000

work force available including engineers and scientists.

HAL provides state of the Art facilities and technology for it's engineers and

scientists. It has well required foundry and forge milling CNC machine. Unconventional

machining techniques such as FCM, EDM, FBM, Advanced coating techniques such as
