THE SEVENTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

May 20 and 21, 2007

VISITORS: Welcome to our worship service! We are pleased to have you worship with us today. May the Holy
Spirit touch your heart through his Word, and direct you into a life of service. Please sign the Friendship Register
during the offering.

PRAYER BEFORE WORSHIP: Almighty God, you sent your Son to proclaim your kingdom and to teach with
authority. Anoint us with the power of your Spirit that we, too, may bring goodness to the afflicted, bind up
the brokenhearted, and proclaim liberty to the captive; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives
and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

ORDER OF WORSHIP: Sunday Service of Word & Sacrament on page 26

Monday Service of Word on page 38

HYMNS: 367 420 558

MEDITATION BEFORE THE WORSHIP SERVICE: After completing his trip to Jerusalem, it was Paul’s plan to
visit Rome and then to bring the gospel to Spain. We do not know whether Paul ever made it to Spain, but
we do know that the Lord put him exactly where wanted him, where he had work for him to do. You can be
sure that he will do the same for you. Read Romans 15:23-33, page 1768.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Jesus continues to rule over his church, and you are a part of his plan to make the
church grow through the proclamation of his word!

FIRST LESSON: Acts 16:6-10

The Lord directs his missionaries to preach the gospel in Macedonia, where the message about Jesus had
never been before. As a result, the church grows and its influence spreads. The Lord will guide you
wherever he needs you.

SECOND LESSON: Revelation 22:12-17,20

Jesus has ascended, but that does not mean that he has left us to ourselves. He continues to send the
Spirit and to offer full and free salvation to all. At his final coming, he will take us to himself in heaven, so
we pray, “Come, Lord Jesus!”

PSALM OF THE DAY: “Go Into the World” Let All the People Praise You, page 91

GOSPEL: John 17:20-26

Did you know that Jesus is praying for you? Here Jesus prays that his church might continue to know and
believe his message of love and through that message enjoy unity and everlasting life. Your Savior has
plans for you!

SERMON TEXT: ACTS 16:6-10

SERMON THEME: He Puts You Exactly Where He Needs You Rev. Thomas Fricke

Holy Communion: The Bible teaches….

 that Jesus' body and blood are truly present in the sacrament.
 that receiving the Lord's Supper in an unworthy manner brings judgment on the individual.
 that when we receive Communion together we are making a public statement that we are united in all our
teaching and belief.
Therefore, we ask that only those who are members of the Wisconsin Synod or members of churches in fellowship
with the Wisconsin Synod approach the Lord's table for Communion. Members of St. John's are reminded to
thoughtfully and prayerfully prepare to receive the Lord's body and blood.
Personal Preparation for Holy Communion on page 156.
PRAYER BEFORE COMMUNION: Father, I have sinned against you and yet in mercy you sacrificed your only Son to
purge away my guilt. For his sake, O God, be merciful to me, and in the joy of your Holy Spirit let me serve you all
my days. AMEN.

ACTS 16:6-10
Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit
from preaching the word in the province of Asia. When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but
the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to. So they passed by Mysia and went down to Troas. During the night Paul had
a vision of a man of Macedonia standing and begging him, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” After Paul had seen
the vision, we got ready at once to leave for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to
them.

REVELATION 22:12-17,20
“Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done. I am
the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.
“Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the
gates into the city. Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the
idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.
“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David,
and the bright Morning Star.”

The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” Whoever is
thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life…
He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.”
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.

JOHN 17:20-26
“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them
may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you
have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in
me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you
have loved me.
“Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given
me because you loved me before the creation of the world.
“Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. I have
made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them
and that I myself may be in them.”
