Founders Message
At the time of setting up of dalit Sangh the though of taking such big and Herculean task that we did not have even much idea about never came into our mind but then there is an adage that says where there is will there is a way. Last year when we sat and contemplated about the organization, we ourselves could not believe that how we did all these. On the very next moment the other thought clicked in the mind at still have miles to go, there are so many things to do that even the entire life is not enough. Last year the work started on creating child journalists and now there and are more than 340 child journalists in the state. All these children are from the far-flung villages and rural schools of the state of which 60 per cent are girls. The organization had started this project in association with UNICEF The monthly newspaper Phool Jaise Bacho KI Pahal also stated publishing in new color shape. At the outset, we faced little difficulties in news and editing but the young journalist did not only wrote quite refined and balanced news and minimizing the troubles but they also took the responsibility of looking after the editing part and freed the organization from this. Former President Honble A.P.J. Abdul Kalam met child reporter at Bhopal at his visit of Bhopal and appreciate the efforts of organization and supporting agency also. His website also mention the efforts of child reporter with appreciation. We strongly feel that the dedication and the fire that we see in the child journalist (especially girls) will certainly reach the national level. The work that we did for the economic rehabilitation of the visually impaired and physically handicapped people has been presented on Asis level. This project is being run with the help of Sight Savers. Every class of the Bankhedi and Sohagpur blocks got benefited of this project and the economic rehabilitation of the visually impaired and physically handicapped people has already been done. The organization is continuously making efforts to bring the pardhi community to the mainstream of the society. The organization has not only worked hard for the economic rehabilitation of the community but also for the self respect and human rights. Dalit Sangh is given the credit of being the only organization all across the Madhya Pradesh to work for the upliftment of pardhi community. The institution is continuously working for bringing the entire Pardhi community to a common platform in association through various projects in association with UNDP and CEE. The Dali tights campaign that is run with the help of Action Aid in Hoshangabad and Harda districts has brought many positive changes in their mentality and life style. Today they are aware about their and living their life with dignity. It is the matter of great pride in itself. Sangh has also started a fellowship program under which it has given fellowship to a dalit girl who is known as Udan Pari (flying angel) in the entire district. She has been given fellowship for one year. The organization , at the same time, following the tradition of rewarding the social workers has rewerded many of them by organizing various programs. The organization studies every class and institution of the society on its own level. Under this, it studied various aspects of Pardhi, Mongia and Sapera communities. Like social, economic and political thoroughly and published books on them. Apart from monthly newspaper, the company has been mentioned in the progressive report of Action Aid that is published fron Italy. Dalit Sangh is for all and every one relies on it due to which the organization is continuously moving ahead on the path of development. The Sangh, in the near future, is going to work on the issues like earning livelihood and consumer awareness. By the dint of enthusiasm and energy and the reliability of the communities, the organization ha today emerged on the global arena. Because of this students from abroad and cities of the country like Delhi, Bangalore and others started coming here. It is due to the truthfulness and a clear vision towards its ambition that world famous NGOs like TDH, UNICEF, UNDP, CEE. Action Aid, Sight Savers along with government of India are working with it. Once again, I am grateful to all the workers, co-institutions and the communities for taking the organization on the world level. With best wishes. Yours

Annual Report DSS 1020 to 2011 process right from organizing, mobilizing, capacity building, skill development, improving presentation skills and inculcating command over language of their understanding backed with constant support, handholding and regular program monitoring and assessment. In order to empower the poor villagers, SC's and ST's communities voices, issues of child rights and their restoration Dalit Sangh came up with idea of grooming Child Reporters as a supplement to achieve its mandate. It all started 3-4 years back when it was conceived that Children from rural backdrop would be groomed with the qualities of journalism and to inculcate them with such values that make them able to raise a voice against the disparities, inequality and prejudice happening around them. Final numbers of child reporter are: Block Village School Child reporter 5 51 25 340 This idea was well appreciated by various esteemed Agencies and supported the cause for the last few years. As this idea has been

instrumental in bringing about social change though silently in getting feedback from the pupils about their weal and woes including problems and suggestions from areas where generally nobody cares to know about. The child reporters

initiative has been a tremendous success and has offered substantial potential for replication. We have come across scores of instances wherein the issues raised by the child reporters have been helpful in bringing about the desired changes, created results, compelled the administration to mend the process wherever

required, improved quality of Mid Day Meal, helping remove caste barriers, witnessing increase in awareness amongst the children about their rights and have gained courage as a result of processes evolved for implementation of programme with constant interaction to put forward any issue of

10

Annual Report DSS 1020 to 2011 importance with the administrative officials, elected representatives and other government machinery through wider coverage of their publication. The child reporters have also made the machinery to function with

education

punctuality and utmost quality. The objective of this project is to prepare the children as young journalists so that they can contemplate on the problems faced by the community, be aware of their rights, and address the same through a newsletter. The children have published articles on topics of local importance, such as unclean toilets in schools and poor quality of teachers. The problems addressed in the newspaper have often been attended to by the authorities. For instance, once a school teacher who sexually harassed students was exposed by the newspaper, and he was subsequently expelled. A kuchcha road in Gundrai village was cemented, thanks to the reportage in the newspaper. This breed of young journalists has thus gained immense confidence in the process. They have also had the opportunity to interview the officer of UNICEF, Angla Balpur (USA) and Program Coordinator of UNO (United Nations Organization) Dr. Charis (Japan). These children are often taken to several workshops on subjects like news sources, news gathering and news editing, in the Babai, Pipariya and Hoshangabad blocks in order to develop their technical skills in the field. They are also taught photography, interviewing skills, cartooning, collecting, reporting and editing. The paper was also highly appreciated by the ex-President APJ Abdul Kalam who suggested that they write about people involved in social work in rural areas. Besides ensuring empowerment of the student community, the paper has also provided a platform for students, teachers and parents alike, to envision a more democratic society founded on the principles of progressive social change.

11

Annual Report DSS 1020 to 2011 We are proposing to include 250 child reporters out of 5 development blocks of Hoshangabad district viz. Babai, Hoshangabad, Bankhedi, Piparia and Sohagpur in the same schools as had been identified for the previous years with junior batches. To ensure

sustainability of the efforts of previous years the Senior child journalists also require to be offered handholding support for them

separate plan of action is enumerated in the activity plan.
