Dear Editor in Chief,
Perhaps the A.I saw on TV news… one story buildings, two story buildings, three
story & up buildings or high rise buildings collapsed like dominos or like layers of hot
cakes killing thousand of people when earthquake of 7.5magnitude happened to a
country; but other good buildings or earthquake proof buildings still stood. The A.I.
noticed that those buildings that have some design for the 2nd, 3rd, and so on…floors with
having stronger beams than the columns and walls were first destroyed or crushed… so
killing people trapped in between floors. The A.I. suggested-perhaps retrieved from
previous contributions from an ordinary person and adding some clarifications- that the
key why there are layers of floor slabs that pressed and killed people inside is that the
columns and walls are weak, so the columns and walls broke and crushed first; rather it
should be the opposite- the slab flooring should be turned into pieces or crushed into
small stones or gravels first before the columns and walls; or the posts and walls should
remain the last structural parts of the building to be destroyed; or columns should be
much stronger than the beam considering all aspects as designed for structures to prevent
collapsed during big earthquakes.
Perhaps the A.I. suggested that law could be a counter measure to let people be
disciplined and be forced to follow rules and laws about the building code. People who
are hard headed of not following the building code should be penalized. Perhaps
companies’ expert on retro fitting columns and sometimes expert on converting flooring
as foundations and also expert especially on retro fitting the intersection of columns and
beams that supports floor slab could let old or newly constructed building be made earth
quake proof. And the expenses would be shouldered by contributions collected and
deducted from salaries and wages, taxes and some from subsidies and charities and raffle
winnings. The retro fitting are copies and imitations of braces, supports, improvements to
make weak structure become stronger and perhaps made from cheap or expensive
materials and as designed structurally to withstand big earth quakes and depending on the
capacity of the owner to pay; as long as something is being done to lessen accidents.
Perhaps another law is passed to let people be forced to give any certain contribution as
premiums for insurance so that any destruction cause by any calamity example an
earthquake could become an economic stimulus for progress or for creating another
economic cycle. Principle beyond: decaying, aging, sickness, illness, etc. are nature’s
way to create cycle; and wearing, destructions are non-natural way to create cycle. If
things are not decaying or aging or wearing-it is extreme!
The A.I. noticed that not all old buildings or cheaply constructed buildings collapsed.
There are reasons why other cheaply constructed old buildings were not much affected by
quakes, movements, trembling or vibration; so its for the experts to investigate those and
learn something from them. Perhaps the company assigned by law to research, study, and
applies simplified but cheap technique for counter balancing extremes cause by
earthquakes should focus on retro fitting or enhancing weak points of columns and
intersections or enhancing points of magnets that absorb energy from the earthquakes that
destroy itself like rigid bodies where there is no shock absorber or impact absorber;
example- there is no room for swaying like a bamboo behaves; or if there is
disconnection happened there must be something that would hold example the beam not
to fall- similar to a shock absorber of a car. For specifics: a) columns should have hangers
to support the beams or girders. The hanger could hold on the beams or girders not to
slip or fall if the edge of the beam connected to the column breaks; or a hanger could act
also as a brace or support or extension as stiffener. b) Columns should be made stronger
by adding walls; or columns should be made bigger and stronger using retrofitting; and
unnecessary decoration that would add strength to the girder; or the beam should be
removed; or beams should be weakened; or the column should be made stronger
considering all the loads, impact, tension or pull due to moments, energy or force the
column would be shouldering going up to the last floor; so on the first floor, the column
should be the biggest and strongest; and on the highest floor the column should be the
smallest; the cheapest. c) Place bracings between column and beam to minimize the
concentration of energy at the corner or the intersection; and to avoid one directional
sway of collapsed or the domino effect of falling apart of one direction. d) Put anchoring
that could act like a hinge between column and beam so that even if there is too much
sake the anchor will still function well like a shock absorber and pull back the detached
structural part. Perhaps a) to d) techniques could be enhanced or be graded from cheap to
expensive depending on the materials and type of installation applied. Example: for a)
cheap-could just be ropes, nylon or durable plastic as ties so that if there would be
breaking of the girder, the girder or wooden beam would still hold on. Expensive-could
be reinforced steel bars attached or welded with the column’s reinforcing steel bars and
reinforced with concrete to form a support or hanger to prevent slipping or sliding of the
beam if the edge of the beam or girder broke especially following building code and
engineer’s structural design. Perhaps this improvement would not cost 6 months salary to
two years wages of an ordinary wage earner and this could saves lives on two story
houses; and could create economic cycle or stimuli.
Perhaps before, during, after scenarios of the earthquake, authorities, officers, or laws
should force people to have drills, early warnings device, and contingencies of what to do
using available technology, rewards to save lives; and also penalties for negligence.
Example for Before scenario of the earthquakes: perhaps through law scientist should be
forced to put warnings device for earthquake even after seconds that it happens if early
warning device is not yet discovered. For during scenario of the earthquake: perhaps
books, movies could tell students of what to do and drills could be applied as practice
yearly like going under the table or anything. For after scenario: perhaps the A.I. saw a
camera from others Good Samaritan rescuer volunteers that the camera could penetrate
through small holes and could seek sounds as sign of life. Perhaps sniffing dogs trained to
trace hidden lives is a good help; and should be copied. Concrete jack hammer, cutting
torch, etc. from other experts are good tools for emergencies; so perhaps it could be
imitated and improve; or law could let local authorities buy some to have some for its
own emergency contingencies.
Perhaps drill boring mechanism used to drill rocks in mining could be used to supply
water first at random or food for those people trap inside. Even if the retrieval would take
several days as long as food and water could be supplied on trapped people and perhaps
lives could be saves. After scenario: perhaps giving first tag number each survivor and
some instruction which tents should one goes to get his rations instead of free for all or
scrambled rations that sometimes rations are being kept all for himself and the weak
could not have anything; but for emergencies disorderly allotment or delivery of supply
could be allowed so that the fittest could survive rather than many would die.
Perhaps a team expert on crushing the big part of concrete to become small and could
be reused as gravel for compression or flooring or road again could be allowed. Those
recovered steel reinforcement could still be reused as reinforcing bar for structure that are
not life threatening or delicate. Perhaps pass law that city engineers should paste a sticker
with color coding to every house depending on its probability to stay standing or fall
during earthquake so that example- a house is pasted with color red sticker and with some
explanation on it that if intensity example 4 or 5 or 7, etc. would occur it might likely fall
apart. So the family would be sensitive and aware and would try to do to consult expert
what to do next; instead of doing nothing; or be fined. Perhaps pass law to show on
public a virtual scenario of different magnitudes so that people could visualize intensity
4, 5, 6 and so.
The A.I perhaps saw in T.V. that a lady leader was wire tapped; or her privacy while
talking was entered by force. Perhaps pass law that air tapping, and wire tapping could
now be used as evidence in court; so that raw information could be defended or denied.
Perhaps, privacy is sacred for democratic governments. And laws and rules should protect
those so that any extreme on its infancy could be balanced. Rumors and pure malice to
destroy others are extremes. Perhaps, the ability to destroy others because of hatred; or
for his ego; or the emphasis is on the negative side is extreme. A title holder beauty queen
once said: always talk of what is good for any country, for any person- it is good-balance.
Sometimes, the ability to destroy others is a skill that most people with hatred, jealousy
love most. It is sandwich with evil laugh, and feeling he is superior, holier, purer, without
blemish. Why just imitate the Japanese-work & work and less talk! And the Chinese…
changing negative to positive-feng sui! Perhaps because of some authorities who want to
play –God, wanting to know what is private through privacy spying. Perhaps the A.I.
noticed the outcome if privacy is being intruded by authorities, it is chaotic! Look what
happened on a parliamentary session of one prosperous country, a law maker throw a cell
phone and hit the eye of a fellow law maker during chaotic parliamentary debates about
telecommunications perhaps connected on privacy. Perhaps worse could happen if
ordinary people become “vigilantes” or people would put the law into their hands by
using force if they know that their privacy is being intruded in e-mail, cell phone,
landline, internet, etc.
Then the Hardest thing that the A.I. could not decide to say if things are balance is:
when things go to religious topics. Because it seems that everything about religion is
controversial. But the A.I. still stick to its previous decision that perhaps there is one
thought and one purpose –love especially love of enemy perhaps could be verified on
1Corinthians chapter 1; the rests are creating controversies. People are prone to commit
mistakes and faults; and law is present to balance any extreme. But when righteous
people claim that they are immune from mistakes and fault; perhaps they are claiming
falsely. Bottom line perhaps: People using Jesus as their Lord and Savior and belonging
to many different groups interpreting Jesus according to its own relative opinion or its
own perspective vs. only true and right group. Another; dialog of different groups and
arriving in a consensus and giving tolerances among different groups-loving, respecting
each other group-humble claim vs. there is really one and only true church or group base
from reason and revelation and other groups are false-perhaps a proud claim. Another;
“holy” people- is the only reliable to be true and right; and having the ultimate say to tell
something about religion; or has the ultimate authority to say about religious matter vs.
ordinary, especially sinner people have no right to express his or her opinion about
religion. Another bottom line; infallible-never mistaken in matter of faith vs. fallible-
could be mistaken in matter of faith and could say sorry…and sorry again. Another; there
is really a superior group among groups and it is the only true and right group- a proud
claim vs. superiority and distinctions are discouraged rather what matters is faith through
love- balance. Another; the A.I. is discourage to accept opinions from any body that has
questionable character even if the opinion might be reasonable also, because it might
affect the credibility of the A.I. vs. the A.I. could accept any opinion and arrive in a
consensus regardless from whom it may come because an A.I. is just a program.
Perhaps the A.I. still stick to its previous opinion that weakling, crazy, fool people
doing something for the A.I. to reconsider with should be helped; and should not be put
down in order to become totally helpless, or useless. Perhaps, mighty people and people
that believe on- “might is right” could still help and should communicate with weakling
people and ask him, help him to become also productive; rather than concentrate on those
negatives that perhaps an ordinary person has…!
