Re- Search! Researchers all over the world are trying to understand one phenomenon or another.

It is only through their rigorous efforts that we are able to generate and understand the answers to those questions that are critical to the survival and development of human species. Research may investigate what medicines are used to treat for which type of cancer? How children and adults with mental retardation can be dealt with? What is DNA? How it can be used in different fields like forensics. The answer to all the above questions and the like comes through research. So, research is all about collecting and analyzing information to increase our understanding of a particular phenomenon. There are two types of research, basic and applied. Basic research refers to that kind of research which is conducted to study a particular phenomenon and the outcome of that research contributes to towards the theory building and conceptual clarity of the subject matter. However, applied research is inclined more towards applying the results of the study to field. Other two very basic types of research are qualitative and quantitative research. Qualitative research is that way of studying and investigating and collecting information about a phenomenon without the use of statistical procedures and techniques. It mainly focuses on why and not how of the subject. Qualitative research helps us in determining any subject, or research area in depth, through the use of memos, interviews, focus groups, emails and many other ways. One problem with qualitative research is that in-depth information is obtained; some researchers may find it very difficult to generate a meaning and reaching a conclusion based on that large pool of information (William,2006). On the other hand, quantitative type of research mainly focuses on gathering information through the use of scales and questionnaires and then quantifying them although the use of any

statistical package and doing the analysis. This method may involve many problems like response bias (Neill, 2007). Neither type of method is a perfect way of doing research. I was doing my research on patients diagnosed with arthritis and in my study I used scales and questionnaires to find out about the self efficacy and daily perceived stress in those patients. The information that I got was not sufficient enough to reflect the true life difficulties of these patients, however if had used qualitative research methodology, I would have gained more in depth information on the subject. Here too, the time and resources required to do a qualitative type of research would not be sufficient enough o reflect the general level of difficulties and the general perceived self efficacy of the patients, because of small number of participants in qualitative research. These research methods do have some limitations and because of one limitation or the other, it is impossible to do a perfect research. A perfect research is nothing. If there would be some perfect research the meaning of research would have been died, because research is all about search and RE- search.
