SIKKIM UNIVERSITY, a Central University located in peaceful and beautiful natural surroundings of S ikkim in Eastern Himalayan region, is being designed in such a way so as to make it known for academic excellence and research, for its all inclusive institutional character and a strong instrument of regional development and cross-border integration. The University is trying to bring in the best practices of academic programmes, teaching methods and curriculum designing and management system from both within and outside India and build modern environment friendly infrastructure.

Institutional Ethos
All the applicants for the posts of Professor/ Associate Professor/ Assistant Professor must possess leadership qualities and must be an institution builder. Besides innovative teaching, tracking students individually and undertaking inter-disciplinary research assignments, they should be able to devote a lot of time to long term planning and developing the respective departments/ programmes/ schools with a view to achieve global competitiveness. They should possess good communicative and writing skills and be well versed with the use of computers and e-governance and also be amenable to work in a peon-free and non-hierarchical management framework. TEACHING POSITIONS:

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS for A above: PROFESSOR: (Pay Band Rs 37400-67000 with AGP of Rs 10000) An eminent scholar with Ph.D. qualification in the concerned/ allied/relevant discipline and published work of high quality actively engaged in research with evidence of published work with at least 10 publications as books and/ or research/ policy papers in indexed/ IS IS N BN/ S numbered journals and/or ISBN/ISSN numbered books. ii. A minimum of 10 years of teaching experience in University/ College, and/or experience in research at the University/ National Level institutions/ industries, including experience of guiding candidates for research at doctoral level. iii. Proven contribution to educational innovation, designing of new curricula and courses, and technology mediated teaching learning process. iv. A minimum score as stipulated in the Academic Performance Indicator (API) based on Performance Based Appraisal System (PBAS) developed by UGC (if applicable). OR v. An outstanding professional with established reputation in the relevant field who has made significant contributions to knowledge and research. Good academic record as defined by the concerned university with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade where grading system is practiced at the Masters degree level in a relevant subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university. Besides fulfilling the above qualifications, the candidate should have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC, CS or similar test accredited by the UGC like IR SLET/SET. Holders of Ph.D. degree as on the date of Notification of the UGC Regulations, 2009 along with those candidates who are awarded a Ph.D. degree through a process of admission, registration, course work and external evaluation as laid down in the UGC (Minimum S tandards and Procedures for award of M.Phil. /Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009 and so adopted by the University, shall be exempted from NET/SLET/SET. NET/ S LET/S shall also not be required for such Masters Programmes in disciplines for ET which NET/SLET/SET is not conducted.

PROFESSOR (1 post): PhD in Chinese or Chinese Studies with strong proficiency in Chinese language; publications in reputed and refereed journals, with at least two books/monographs in Culture Studies/Buddhist Studies/ Strategic Studies/Social / Environmental /Literary studies related to China; Experience of directing/supervising research in universities/ institutes. 10. School of Policy Planning and Studies:


PROFESSOR (1 post)/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR (2 posts)/ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (4 posts) S pecialization in interdisciplinary policy research on larger issues of national and global interests from a very local to global perspectives. Firsthand knowledge and research experiences in the arena of public affairs and policies; national security; livelihood and indigenous people ; foreign policy/diplomacy; cross-border exchanges and interactions; disaster management; natural resources management; agriculture, plantation, animal science and earth science; infra-structure, communications and connectivity; human security; development dynamics including planning, monitoring and evaluation; social structures including gender; media; literature-language; art, culture, music, religion, ethnicity and history; science and technology; environment; migration; diseases; global warming and climate change; peace and conflicts managements; public policy and governance; legal dynamics; area studies; and societal and community practices and

institutions. Physical exposures t o hill and mount ain areas and t he communit ies with wider inter-disciplinary perspectives. This is a S chool, which will also host experts/ professionals/ public figures/ scholars from institutions located both in India and abroad and those who would like to come and spend a sabbatical or engage in academic programmes in SIKKIM UNIVERSITY. This School will also host local, national or global projects and programmes mainly on policy issues. This S chool will provide all the facilities to these scholars associated with SIKKIM UNIVERSITY.

B.

Department of Music, School of Indigenous and Folk Studies.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: PROFESSOR: (Pay Band Rs 37400-67000 with AGP of Rs 10000) (1 post)
i. An eminent scholar with a doctoral degree actively and engaged in research with ten years of experience in teaching in University/ College and/ or research at the University/ National level institutions including experience of guiding research at doctoral level with outstanding performing achievements in the field of specialization. OR A traditional and a professional artist with highly commendable professional achievement in the concerned subject, who should be or have: a. A grade artist of AIR/TV; b. Twelve years of outstanding performing achievements in the field of specialization; c. Significant contributions in the field of specializations and ability to guide research; d. Participation in National/ International S eminars/ Conferences/ Workshops and/ or recipient of National/International Awards/Fellowships; and e. Ability to explain the logical reasoning of the subject concerned and adequate knowledge to teach theory with illustrations in that discipline.

ii.

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR: (Pay Band Rs. 37400-67000 with AGP of Rs. 9000) (2 posts)
i. ii. Good academic record with doctoral degree, with performing ability of high professional standard. Eight years of experience of teaching at the University, College level and/ or research in University/ national level institutions excluding the period spent for obtaining the research degree. Has made significant contributions to the knowledge in the subject concerned, as evidenced by quality of publications. Contribution to educational innovation such as designing of new courses, curricula and/ or outstanding performing achievement in the field of specialization. OR A traditional and a professional artist with highly commendable professional achievement in the concerned subject, who should be or have: a. A grade artist of AIR/TV; b. Eight years of outstanding performing achievements in the field of specialization; c. Experience in designing of new courses and /or curricula; d. Participation in Seminars/Conferences in reputed institutions; and

e. Ability to explain the logical reasoning of the subject concerned and adequate knowledge to teach theory with illustrations in that discipline. ASSISTANT PROFESSOR: (Pay Band Rs. 15600-39100 with AGP of Rs. 6000) (3 posts) i. Good academic record with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) at the Masters Degree level, in the relevant subject or an equivalent degree from an Indian/Foreign University. Besides fulfilling the above qualifications, candidates must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) for lecturers conducted by the UGC, CS or similar test accredited by the UGC. IR, Notwithstanding anything contained in the sub-clauses (i) and (ii) to this Clause 4.4.2.1, candidates, who are, or have been awarded Ph. D. Degree in accordance with the University Grants Commission (Minimum S tandards and Procedure for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009, shall be exempted from the requirement of the minimum eligibility condition of NET/ S LET/ S for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professor or equivalent positions in ET Universities / Colleges /Institutions. NET/ S LET/ S shall also not be required for such Masters Programmes in disciplines for which ET NET/SLET/SET is not conducted. OR A traditional and a professional artist with highly commendable professional achievement in the concerned subject, who should have: a. Studied under noted/reputed traditional masters and has thorough knowledge to explain the subject concerned; b. A high grade artist of AIR/TV; and c. Ability to explain the logical reasoning of the subject concerned and adequate knowledge to teach theory with illustrations in that discipline. In addition to the above, the desirable qualifications are indicated. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: PROFESSOR: Specialization in any branch of music including Hindustani Vocal Music with a thorough knowledge of Indian Music Theory (Both Hindustani & Carnatic). Substantive and sustained experience in any field of music or in music related institutions. Publications in reputed and refereed journals in music studies or in related areas. Physical exposures t o hill and mount ain areas and t he communit ies with wider inter-disciplinary perspectives. A substantive knowledge of music relevant to hill and mountainous region. Sustained affiliations with professional institutions. Strong aptitude for handling and designing innovative music related instruments, technologies and techniques. ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR: Specialization in any branch of music including Hindustani Vocal Music with an emphasis in Indian Classical Music History & Theory; Instrumental String Music (Non-Percussion Category); Instrumental Percussion Category (e.g. Tabla). Experience in any field of music as professionals; publications in reputed and refereed journals on music studies or in related areas like Culture /Religious / Social / Environmental /Literary studies. C. Department of Management and Commerce, School of Management and Commerce


ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

PROFESSOR: (Pay Band ` 37400-67000 with AGP of ` 10000) (1 post)


i. Consistently good academic record with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) in Masters Degree in Business Management / Administration / in a relevant discipline or consistently good academic record with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) in two year full time PGDM declared equivalent by AIU / recognized by the AICTE / UGC; OR First Class graduate and professionally qualified Chartered Accountant / Cost and works Accountant / Company Secretary of the concerned statutory body. Ph. D. or Fellow of Indian Institute of Management or of an Institute recognized by AICTE and declared equivalent by the AIU. A minimum of ten years experience of teaching / industry / research / professional out of which five years must be at the level of Reader or equivalent excluding the period spent for obtaining the research degree. OR In the event the candidate is from industry and the profession, the following shall constitute as essential: a.
