AWARD COMPETITION GUIDELINES 2012

Objectives
A platform for aspiring and young designers to showcase their talent and innovativeness in furniture design To draw newcomers to furniture design To promote the development of the Malaysian furniture industry internationally through innovative, well designed products To encourage the creation of an identity for Malaysian furniture products

Rules and Regulations

Only newly created and unpublished entries will be accepted. Entries that contravene intellectual or industrial property rights will be disqualified. Participants will be liable for claims by third parties resulting from the contravention. The Organiser shall not be held responsible for any contravention. All submissions by participants are non-returnable and shall remain the property of the Organiser. Participants shall not use the same entry for other purposes unless with the permission of the Organiser. Shortlisted participants from the First Round Judging will be notified on 7 and 8 Oct 2011. They are required to present their design ideas to the panel of judges during the Second Round Judging on 10 October 2011. Absentee will be automatically disqualified. 10 final designs will be selected to be further developed and turned into prototypes. Finalists are required to make a presentation with their prototypes before a panel of international judges at the Final Round Judging on 5 March 2012. The judges decision is final. No correspondence will be entertained. Proof of air-mailing or posting of the entry form is not proof of receipt. The Organiser reserves the right to publicise any submitted entry. The Organiser reserves the right to make any changes to the Award without any prior notice. Any changes pertaining to the competition i.e. venue, date, time, terms and conditions or cancellation will be announced online at www.ideationaward.com.

Design Brief
Design your favourite seat; pairing it with a table as a set is acceptable The furniture must be marketable and suited to a contemporary lifestyle Preference will be given to design solutions using solid wood Use of recyclable and environmental friendly materials are encouraged Material chosen preferably from Malaysia

Eligibility

The competition is opened to Malaysians, and foreigners residing, working or studying in Malaysia with authorised permits. Participants must be aged 30 and below for the duration of the competition ending 8 Mar 2012.

Judging Criteria
Innovation (50 marks) Concept, Creativity, Technology, Material Usage, Marketability Aesthetics (20 marks) Design Impression, Presentation Functionality (30 marks) Ergonomics, Safety, Sustainability

Submission Deadline

Submission Requirements
Participants are required to submit the following in a CD (or softcopy): 1. PDF file of not more than 6 pages of A3 format presentation pages (Landscape Orientation). Each page must be labelled with a box of 4cm x 3cm on the bottom left corner of each page: Name of the Design Name of Designer Content: Page 1 - 3D overall view (taken from the best angle) of the design Page 2 - Any other 3D views Page 3 - Top view and elevations from all 4 sides (with exact dimensions) Page 4 - Drawing/3D views with texts explaining function of the furniture parts Page 5 & 6 -Technical details (material, construction techniques etc) Note : No other texts (other than dimensions) are allowed to be used on pages 1 to 3, except for those in the label.

The winner will be announced at Prize Presentation Ceremony on 8 March 2012 during MIFF 2012.

All prototypes of finalists will be displayed at a special exhibit at MECC during MIFF 2012.
