What is Mini-THON?
Lower Morelands Mini-THON is an event modeled after Penn States Dance Marathon (THON). THON raises money for The Four Diamonds Fund, an organization committed to fight pediatric cancer. During our MiniTHON, students may not sit, squat, or kneel, but instead must stand, dance, and participate in competitions and activities for twelve consecutive hours. Mini-THON consists of games, dances, music, sports, food, guest speakers, and grade versus grade competitions. At the end of the rewarding night, the total amount of money is announced along with the winning grade of Mini-THON. Although Mini-THON appears to be competitive, it is important to remember why the students stand for the twelve hours. They stand For The Kids, or FTK. Everything we do, from collecting donations to having fun at the event itself, is for the kids. The most touching part during the twelve hours of Mini-THON is the one hour we set aside to listen to the stories of families and kids that have been helped by the Four Diamonds Fund.

The Freshman Experience

My name is Daniel Elchediak and last year was my first year being involved in Lower Morelands Mini-THON. As a freshman, I didnt know what to expect, but there was definitely a lot of talk going around about Mini-THON. Even before the actual event, the whole school was getting involved, and myself along with other kids in my grade got to be apart of the many committees that put this event into production. The day of Mini-THON felt like a weekend, and as soon as it started it became such a great time. Aside from all the games, food, and social time with my friends, the whole experience was very meaningful. I got to hear all the touching stories of cancer survivors, and this experience only made me want to help even more. I am 100% sure that I will continue to participate in Mini-THON, along with all the future responsibilities that come with making it possible. This was truly a high point in my freshman year, and I encourage everybody to take part in it!

On average, 1 in every 4 elementary school has a child with cancer. The average high school has two students who are a current or former cancer patient.
