Macbeth Projects English Lit. / Comp. Vidrine Choose one of the following projects.

This project will count as a Major grade. Due ____________________ Writing Keep a journal or diary for one of the major characters: Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, Macduff, Malcolm. Write four entries for the character in the characters voice (you become the character). Each entry should be to one page handwritten (with variations for handwriting) or page typed. The entries should be in response to an act in the play. For example, if you were Lady Macbeth how might you be feeling after Act I and your struggle to convince Macbeth to kill the king. Dont just tell what happened. Make some critical judgments about what happened why things happened. Be sure that you write in the voice of the character, use I, and incorporate specific details and brief quotes into your entries. Rubric:

Quote Analysis Choose 10 quotes for quote analysis. Include: the speaker, to whom the character is speaking, the situation and its significance to plot development, and interpretation, including any literary devices. Example: If you can look into the seeds of time, And say which grains will grow and which will not, Speak then to me, who neither beg nor fear Your favors or your hate. (1.3.58-61) 1. 2. 3. 4. Banquo To the witches The witches have just given Macbeth the good news that he will be king. Banquo expresses a curiosity about his own future (the metaphor of the seeds of time) but, unlike Macbeth, shows neither fear nor great desire to receive special concessions from the witches. Banquos words help to distinguish him as a foil character to Macbeth as the play goes on. Rubric:

Readers Theater This project may be done as a group. Choose a scene and assign parts. You may use a script, but the actors should be familiar with their dialogue, using the script as a prompt. Simple costumes or symbolic masks or props may be included. The reading of the scene should bring meaning to the text. You may not do Act I scene 1. Rubric

Perform a Soliloquy Choose one of Macbeth or Lady Macbeths soliloquies to perform. You should have the speech memorized, but you may ask a student to prompt you if necessary. Your interpretation of the characters speech should bring meaning to the text.
