To use the parallel interface in the 3910IS / 3940IP printers, the twinax or coax adapter provided with the printer must be connected. If neither adapter is connected, the Program Mode cannot be accessed to select CentPar in the Interface submenu. 65 No Interface will display on the LCD.

INITIALIZATION
1. 2. 3. Press <PARK/PATH> and <FONT> keys as you apply power to the printer. Hold both keys until the printer beeps. This may take up to 10 seconds. A flashing FAULT LED is also a sign of a successful initialization. Press the <CLEAR> key. 1. 2.

RIBBON INFO (Manual Head Gap)


(3910IS) To properly install a ribbon, it is recommended that the paper be in a parked position by pressing the <PARK/PATH> key. Never install a ribbon when paper has just been loaded and is sitting at top of form. This can cause damage to the metal smudge shield on the ribbon guide. Open the top cover and set the lever on the right inside frame to the "RIBBON CHANGE" position. Install and align the cartridge in the printer. Snap the cartridge firmly into place on the left and right sides. Snap the ribbon guide onto the print head nozzle. Rotate the ribbon advance knob to remove any slack from the ribbon fabric. Move the print head all the way from left to right to verify it does not make contact with the ribbon cartridge. Close the top cover.

NOTE1: The <PRINT QUALITY> key will start and stop a print test, and the <TEAR OFF> key will advance the paper. NOTE2: Every time the printer automatically adjusts the print gap, two small columns of dots are printed at the top of the form about two inches from the left margin.

(3910IS) 1. 2. 3. 4. Move the "RIBBON CHANGE" lever slowly towards the rear of the printer as it is printing. Position the lever for the best quality print. If the print is light or characters not fully formed, continue to move the lever towards the rear of the printer. If the print starts to smudge, move the lever towards the front of the machine. CAUTION: Smudged print could cause the paper to tear or do damage to the print head.

(3940IP) 1. 2. 3. A ribbon may be installed only when the print head is fully backed away from the striker bar. To properly install a ribbon, paper must be in a parked position by pressing the <PARK/PATH> key or ... Menu must be set to the "Ribbon Change" utility function.

LCD = "Prog :Exit" LCD = "Prog :Head Gap" LCD = "Head G:Ribbn Chg" LCD = "Head G:Ribbn Chg" LCD blinks three times. Print head backs away. Open top cover and remove old ribbon. Install new ribbon (See steps 5 thru 9 in the RIBBON INFO (Manual Head Gap) section). Press <PROG> key. Print head adjusts to proper position.
