STROOP COLOR AND WORD TEST.

1. DATA SHEET: GENERAL DESCRIPTION

a) Name: Stroop color and word test.

b) Authors: Charles J. Golden, Ph D.

c) Type of administration: Individual.

d) Duration: the complete form approximately 5 minutes (45" time limit for each sheet).

e) Age: from 7 to 80 years old (with age-corrected scales for children, adults from 45 to
64 years old and seniors).

f) Scoring: Direct scores / T-score / Conversion z-score.

g) Description: It consists of 3 sheets, each of which contains 100 elements distributed

in five columns of 20 elements each. The first sheet (P) consists of the words RED,
GREEN and BLUE randomly ordered and printed in black ink on an A4 sheet. The
same word is not allowed to appear twice in a row in the same column. The second
sheet (C) consists of 100 stimuli, arranged in the same way, made up of x's (XXXX)
(i.e., no reading possible) printed in blue, green or red ink. The same color does not
appear twice in a row in the same column. The colors do not follow the same order as
the words on the first sheet. The third plate (PC) contains the words of the first plate
printed in the colors of the second plate, mixed item by item; the first item is the color
of item 1 of the first plate printed in the ink of the color of item 1 of the second plate. In
no case does the color of the ink match the meaning of the word. The subject must name
the color of the ink.

The subject has 45" on each slide to perform the proposed task.

h) Materials: Set of three sheets. Stopwatch. Application and correction manual.

i) General significance: The PC slide constitutes a good instrument for the assessment
of Executive Functions (inhibition of automatic responses, cognitive flexibility,
attentional control, measurement of interference). The P and C slides allow the
assessment of speed in naming (C) and reading (P) frequently used words (semantic
route of reading).

j) Correction and scoring: Number of stimuli correctly processed for each separate slide
within the stipulated time. Errors are not computed, but by requesting their immediate
correction, they are penalized by slowing down the execution.

k) Scales: by age. With age-corrected scales for children (7 to 16 years), adults (45 to
64 years) and seniors (65 years and older).
l) General considerations: If the subject presents uncorrected visual alterations, the
results should be interpreted with caution. If the subject is illiterate, do not administer
the first slide or perform the calculation of the interference measurement. In the latter
case, laminins C and PC can be administered and analyzed quantitatively and
qualitatively.

2. INSTRUCTIONS FOR COLLECTION

The pages are presented to the subject in the following order: 1st, 2nd and 3rd. The
sheets are placed directly in front of the subject on a flat surface. The subject may rotate
the sheet no more than 45º to the right or left. It is also not allowed to lift or separate the
sheet from the surface on which they are placed. The third page should be placed in the
same position as the second page. It is not allowed to cover the leaves in any way.

Consignment:

"This test is abouthow fast you can read the words written on this page. When I tell
you to do so, you should begin reading aloud the columns of words from top to
bottom, starting with the first column.[Point to the first column on the left] until you
reach the end of the column [show your hand moving up and down the first column],
then continue reading the following columns in order without stopping. [If you finish
reading all the columns before I signal you that the allotted time is up, you will return
to the first column [point] and continue reading until I give the given signal.

Remember not to stop reading until I say "enough!". and that you should
read aloud as quickly as possible. If you make a mistake on a word, I will say "no"
and you will correct the mistake by rereading the word correctly and continue
reading the next words without stopping. Do you have any questions?

Are you ready? Start Start thestopwatch and after 45 seconds you
say:"Enough, circle the last word you have read, if you have finished the whole page
and started over, put a 1 inside the circle. Nowgo to the next page "

The instructions for the second page are the same as those for the first page except for
the beginning, which is the beginning: "In this part of the test, you have to know how
quickly you can name the colors of each of the groups of X'sthat appear on the
pages.

If the subject does not present any type of alteration, the following instructions will be
proposed: This exercise is performed similarly to the one on the previous page. Start
in the first column and name the colors of the group of X's in it, from top to bottom
without skipping any; then continue the same task in the remaining columns.
Remember to name the colors asquickly as possible."

If the subject has any disturbance or difficulty, the complete instructions will be
repeated. As on the first page, a time of 45 seconds is allowed.
To begin the third part of the test, follow the instructions below:

"This page is similar to the oneused in the previous exercise. In it you must say the
color of the ink with which each word is written, regardless of the meaning of that
word. For example (point to the first word in the column),

What would you say in this word?" If the subject's answer is correct, continue reading
the instructions, if it is incorrect, say:

"No, it's the word that's written. What you have tosay is the color of the ink with
which it has been written. Now (point to the same item), whatwould you say when
you look at this word?"

If you answer correctly you say: "OK, that's correct".

It continues by pointing to the second word and saying: "What would you say in this
word?" If you answer correctly, the application is continued by saying:

"Okay, now you will continue to do this same thing all over the page. You will start at
the top of the first column (Point) and work your way to the bottom of the first
column, then continue in the same way for the remaining columns. You should work
as quickly as possible. Remember that if you make a mistake you have to correct your
mistake and continue without stopping. Do you have any questions?"

If the answer is incorrect, these instructions are repeated again. This will be done as
many times as necessary, until the subject understands what he/she has to do or it is
absolutely certain that it will be impossible for him/her to perform the task.

When the subject has no doubts about what to do, application is initialized by saying,
"You may begin!"

Start the stopwatch and when 45 seconds have elapsed say: "Enough! Circle the last
word you said."

At this point the test is withdrawn.

4. SCORING AND CORRECTION CRITERIA

Three main scores are obtained in this test:

P: is the number of words read on the first sheet.

C: is the number of elements named in the color sheet (second sheet).

PC: is the number of elements named in the third sheet.

Errors are not counted but produce a lower total score since the subject must repeat the
erroneously read/named item. Based on the results obtained in these three scores, the
interference calculation can be performed. In order to obtain gross scores, the following will be
taken into account:
a. In subjects aged 16 to 45: the raw score is equal to the number of items read/named.

b.Adults from 45 to 64 years of age: the direct score must be increased as follows to obtain the
gross score (corrected for age):- P corrected for age = P + 8- C corrected for age = C + 4- PC
corrected for age = PC + 5

c . Older adults (65 to 80 years): the direct score should be increased as follows to obtain the
raw score (age-corrected):- P age-corrected = P + 14- C age-corrected = C + 11- PC age-
corrected = PC + 15Once the raw score is obtained, the scale should be consulted to obtain the
T-score.To calculate the interference measure, the age-corrected scores should be used as
follows:

1. First, the calculation of PC' (or estimated PC) is made, according to the following formula:

PxC

P+C

2. Then, the value of PC' is subtracted from the value found in PC, that is:

PC - PC' = Interference.
