One of my opponents in this race says he will reverse the direction crime is going in Washington Parish.

Really?

During my tenure as your Sheriff, crime in Washington Parish has dropped significantly. Statistics show a substantial decrease under my administration. Motor vehicle theft is down by 60%; aggravated assault is down by 33%; forcible rape is down by 60% more than 1,100 drug arrests have been made and that number climbs daily. I attribute this remarkable success to my years of experience. We have effectively put more drug dealers out of business during my term than in the history of Washington Parish. We have boots on the ground and it is working. So, when one of my opponents says he will reverse the increase in crime -- it can only mean that he will allow it to go back up. I will not. That same opponent wants you to believe I have a $2 million debt. Here is the truth: There was a $1.2 Million loan left over from Hurricane Katrina that I absorbed when I took office. Rather than burden taxpayers of Washington Parish, we have pinched pennies without interfering with our mission to protect and serve. I am so proud to say that we have balanced our budget and we're in good shape financially. We have been tremendous stewards of the taxpayers money. He says he will comply with Department of Corrections. That is nothing new. We do comply with DOC. We are a parish jail first and we do house DOC offenders. That same politician says he will demand that sex offenders register. State law has already made that mandate. Washington Parish Sheriffs Office has a 99% compliance rate one of the best in the State of Louisiana. We have full time, trained deputies working this program. Why someone would play politics with such an emotional and serious issue is beyond me. This same career politician says he will provide professionally trained and respectful deputies. Honestly, I take great offense to that. My well trained deputies place their lives on the line every day. They are our first line of response and defense in times of emergencies, tragedy and natural disasters. He owes these men and women an apology. Your sheriff's office is one of the most efficient in the state. We have improved technology and equipment that has helped us accomplish the significant reduction in the crime rate that Washington Parish has experienced. We have received more than $2.5 million in grant money and have additional funding in the pipeline that will allow us continued improvements or enhancement to programs already in place. I could go on but the bottom line is this: The Washington Parish Sheriff's Office is recognized across the state, neighboring states, state police and the federal government as being both skilled and professional. We work with many law enforcement organizations to stop crime in Washington Parish. We do not operate politically we operate professionally. Maybe that is why one of my opponents and his buddies from outside the parish are contributing and spending so much money to try and defeat me.
