UNDERWATER ACFM CRACK MICROGAUGE MODEL U31D
The Model U31 Underwater ACFM Crack Microgauge represents the latest in ACFM subsea inspection technology. The new instrument offers all the advantages of ACFM inspection, available on earlier instruments, but in a much smaller, lighter package designed specifically for ease of diver deployment. The system provides: Rapid scanning using a hand-held probe. Reliable crack detection and sizing (length and depth). Reduced cleaning requirements with no need to clean to bare metal. Capable of inspecting corroded surfaces, or through non-conducting coatings several millimetres thick. Windows software for ease of operation and compatibility with other Windows applications. Full data storage for back-up, off-line view and audit purposes. Access to a wide range of geometries using a range of active subsea probes. Probes with embedded serial numbers to simplify operation and reduce likelihood of operator error. Capable of operating at water depths up to 300m.

Typical applications
The model U31D instrument is used extensively for the inspection of offshore structures and is commonly specified for routine weld inspection on floating and fixed platforms. The range of probes available allows inspection of all common underwater structural weld details, including repair ground areas. ln addition to structural inspection, ACFM is also used for inspection of pipelines, vessels and marine components, including thrusters and propellers. The basic model U31D system can also be upgraded to operate with a range of multi-element array probes. These are particularly useful when inspecting uniform geometries or flat areas, such as marine propellers, thruster blades or FPSO mooring chains.

PORTABLE UNDERATER MPI UNIT
Produced following extensive research and development effort, this underwater magnetic particle inspection unit has been developed as the ideal diver operated underwater MPI system for shallow water/tidal water use. System Features Totally self contained 12 volt battery powered High intensity switchable UV Lamp Switchable 12V DC electromagnetic yoke Ink supply unit (optional) Inspection diving contractors revealed a requirement for a fully portable underwater MPI unit capable of being used by divers in shallow water or tidal conditions. Ideally, the unit should NOT require any form of umbilical connection to the surface and should be capable of sustaining the inspection operation for up to 4 hours duration. The result of this development is an inspection system powered from a 12 volt rechargeable battery unit and comprising battery/control unit, DC electromagnetic yoke and a high intensity UV light incorporating an arc discharge bulb for high ultraviolet content in the light produced. Magnetic ink can be supplied by attaching the optional ink dispensing unit or even from the surface. The pressure housings for the battery/electronic control unit and the lamp are fabricated from anodised aluminium alloy and are pressure tested to a depth of 600feet. A unique power-saving feature of the unit is that both the lamp and the DC electromagnetic yoke can be switched on/off by the diver. The electronic control system used for the gas discharge bulb in the UV lamp enables maximum UV output to be produced within 30 seconds of switching on the lamp and the electromagnetic yoke incorporates a sealed switch unit giving the diver full operational control. In the event that the optional dispensing system is used, the ink supply to the work piece can be incorporated into the handle of the UV lamp.

MAGNETIC PARTICLE INSPECTION
This MPI system is a result of further development of well proven and highly successful OIS underwater technology systems which have been used by underwater operators around the world since 1980. System Features Three magnetising techniques in one system Full surface control and monitoring facilities High intensity Ultra-Violet (U/V) Lamp De-magnetising facility Transformer isolated power supply Built-in Earth Leakage Detectors Operates at any depth It is a modular design employing a sophisticated power control Surface Unit and an integrated, pressure compensated, Subsea Unit with built-in ink management systems. A heavy duty isolating transformer supplies power to the Surface Unit, which is connected to the Subsea Unit via a single 200 metre umbilical, which is deployed from a strong hand-operated spooling frame. The Surface Unit is housed in a rugged stainless steel case with removable front cover. Its key features include: An input-output current ammeter Earth Leakage detectors and trips A magnetising loop operation indicator A demagnetising facility Remote control of the magnetising current The Subsea Unit has AC and DC outlets for three magnetising techniques - Electromagnetic Yoke, Magnetising Coil, and Prods. The magnetising Coil & Prods can be AC or DC powered, whilst the Yoke is DC powered and allows bolt-on articulated sections to be fitted to enable inspection of irregular/awkward-shaped work pieces. These three options allow the user to select the best tool for a particular structure or pipeline configuration, increasing operational flexibility and speeding up MPI diving programmes. The Subsea Unit contains a 7KVA magnetising transformer, power/supply conditioning choke for the powerful UV lamp and a motor-driven ink circulation system which continuously agitates the magnetic particles. The top of the unit carries a 10 litre ink reservoir fitted with quick-release hoses to enable the diver to change the reservoir easily. The powerful UV Lamp is connected to the Subsea Unit via a 6 metre combined power and ink delivery umbilical. A lever-controlled ink nozzle on the lamp head allows one-handed operation.

TRITEX ULTRASONIC THICKNESS GAUGE 3000

The Multigauge 3000 Underwater Gauge is a simple, robust ultrasonic thickness gauge designed for most common underwater thickness gauging applications. The gauge is pressure tested to 500m and has the option to transfer measurements to a surface display unit with the simple addition of a replacement end cap. It has been designed and built to survive extremely harsh conditions that exist in the offshore and underwater industries worldwide. The gauge uses multiple echo which means measurements can be easily taken without the need to remove coatings and the large bright LED display ensures the display can be seen by the diver, even in poor visibility. The gauge is equipped with IPR (Intelligent Probe Recognition), which automatically adjusts settings in the gauge for enhanced performance and AMVS (Automatic Measurement Verification System) to ensure only true measurements are displayed, even on the most heavily corroded metals.

Features:
Ignores coatings using multiple echo Pressure tested to 500m Bright clear LED display Easy to use No fuss upgrade option to a topside repeater Rugged and robust Intelligent probe recognition (IPR) Automatic measurement verification (AMVS) No zeroing required

About Triple Echo:
All Ultrasonic Thickness Gauges should be calibrated to the velocity of sound of the material being measured. Coatings have a different velocity of sound than metal and it is important they are not included in the measurement. Triple Echo ensures all coatings are completely eliminated from the measurement. How it works A transmitted ultrasound pulse travels though both the coating and the metal and reflects from the back wall. The returned echo then reverberates within the metal, with only a small portion of the echo travelling back through the coating each time. The timing between the small echoes gives us the timing of the echoes within the metal, which relate to the metal thickness. The returned echoes need not be consecutive as the gauge will interpret them automatically and calculate the thickness. A minimum of three echoes are checked each time. This is referred to as the Automatic Measurement Verification System (AMVS).

Technical Diving Equipment

General Description The CTP-600 Underwater Cable Tracker is a replacement for the earlier model CTP-250 which was developed for the U.S. Navy Underwater Construction Team in the early 1980s. The CTP-600 has improved upon this successful design by adding Digital Signal Processing (DSP)capabilities. All probes are tested to 125 psi and are shipped in a rugged, waterproof carrying case with waterproof operation and maintenance manual. The CTP-600 locates and tracks most cables on which an AC signal can be impressed. Four tracking frequencies allow differentiation between nearby live cables. The CTP-600 is equipped with a high intensity LED display for dark water conditions and a diver earphone. Additionally, data can be transmitted to the surface via an RS-485 interface umbilical. Power can also be supplied through the umbilical. For ROV operations the CTP -600 is mounted in a compact aluminium housing without the battery compartment. Power is supplied from the ROV and RS -485 data is transmitted to a surface PC for display and storage. Optional Left/Right sensors can be added to simplify the tracking process.

Diver Operation Prior to deployment with the diver, the CTP -600 is preset to the specific frequency that is impressed on the cable to be tracked. Upon determination of the general location, the diver slowly waives the probe across the ocean floor while watching the display or listening for an increase in the earphone signal. The tracking operation uses the null signal method. To either side of the cable, the indicator lights are at maximum level (peak). However, as the probe nears the cable, the number of display lights that are lit decrease. When the probe is directly above and pointed straight down the cable, the display lights decrease to a minimum reading and the cable position is very accurately determined. The electronics are sensitive enough that in many cases, the cable can be located from the surface, saving valuable time and resources. After cable location, the diver can be deployed for precise tracking.

ROV Operation The ROV tracking operation is similar to the diver method and also uses the null method for accurate determination of cable position. The tracking sensor and electronics canister are mounted on the ROV. Power is supplied from the ROV and the RS-485 sensor data are transmitted to a surface PC display. To simplify operations, optional left and right direction sensors may also be installed on the ROV.
