Typical applications
The model U31D instrument is used extensively for the inspection of offshore structures and is commonly specified for routine weld inspection on floating and fixed platforms. The range of probes available allows inspection of all common underwater structural weld details, including repair ground areas. ln addition to structural inspection, ACFM is also used for inspection of pipelines, vessels and marine components, including thrusters and propellers. The basic model U31D system can also be upgraded to operate with a range of multi-element array probes. These are particularly useful when inspecting uniform geometries or flat areas, such as marine propellers, thruster blades or FPSO mooring chains.

DESCRIPTION The Bathycorrometer is a consistent way of determining the corrosion of subsea structures. First developed primarily to allow the diver greater surveying freedom by providing direct readout at the point of application. The first unit went into rigorous North Sea service in 1971. Customer satisfaction with the performance of Bathycorrometers has led to specified use, world wide. The current model retains the features of the Roxby unit but with modern electronics. Bathycorrometers are used for polarisation, corrosion and interaction surveys, in particular as part of the commissioning check or inspection of: - Production and drilling platforms - Subsea pipelines - Ships hulls - Jetties and other marine works. STANDARD KIT The Bathycorrometer is supplied in a fitted carrying case together with: - Battery charger: 14hr standard 110 to 230 volts A.C. input - 6 x hardened stainless steel probe tips - Probe tip spanner and silicone grease ACCESSORIES AVAILABLE - Silver/Silver chloride screw-in half cell - Stainless steel probe tips - Calomel reference cells - Zinc and Magnesium test blocks - BCM checker TECHNICAL ADVISORY / AFTER SALES SERVICE A fast repair and re-calibration service is available to enable customers to fully maintain their equipment.

BATHYCORROMETER CALIBRATION KIT The Calibration Kit contains all the necessary components to verify the accuracy of the readings on the Bathycorrometer. There are two areas that need to be tested. The electronics are checked using the BCM Checker. If they are functioning correctly, the Silver / Silver Chloride screw-in half cell can be checked using the three Calomel reference cells in a standard salt water solution. The Multigauge 3000 Underwater Gauge is a simple, robust ultrasonic thickness gauge designed for most common underwater thickness gauging applications. The gauge is pressure tested to 500m and has the option to transfer measurements to a surface display unit with the simple addition of a replacement end cap. It has been designed and built to survive extremely harsh conditions that exist in the offshore and underwater industries worldwide. The gauge uses multiple echo which means measurements can be easily taken without the need to remove coatings and the large bright LED display ensures the display can be seen by the diver, even in poor visibility. The gauge is equipped with IPR (Intelligent Probe Recognition), which automatically adjusts settings in the gauge for enhanced performance and AMVS (Automatic Measurement Verification System) to ensure only true measurements are displayed, even on the most heavily corroded metals.
Features:
Ignores coatings using multiple echo Pressure tested to 500m Bright clear LED display Easy to use No fuss upgrade option to a topside repeater Rugged and robust Intelligent probe recognition (IPR) Automatic measurement verification (AMVS) No zeroing required

Diver Operation Prior to deployment with the diver, the CTP -600 is preset to the specific frequency that is impressed on the cable to be tracked. Upon determination of the general location, the diver slowly waives the probe across the ocean floor while watching the display or listening for an increase in the earphone signal. The tracking operation uses the null signal method. To either side of the cable, the indicator lights are at maximum level (peak). However, as the probe nears the cable, the number of display lights that are lit decrease. When the probe is directly above and pointed straight down the cable, the display lights decrease to a minimum reading and the cable position is very accurately determined. The electronics are sensitive enough that in many cases, the cable can be located from the surface, saving valuable time and resources. After cable location, the diver can be deployed for precise tracking.
ROV Operation The ROV tracking operation is similar to the diver method and also uses the null method for accurate determination of cable position. The tracking sensor and electronics canister are mounted on the ROV. Power is supplied from the ROV and the RS-485 sensor data are transmitted to a surface PC display. To simplify operations, optional left and right direction sensors may also be installed on the ROV.
