List of Prime Ministers of India from 1947 till date

PANDIT. JAWAHARLAL NEHRU:-was the first Prime Minister of Independent India who held charge continuosly for 17 years from 15th August 1947 to 27th May 1967.Pandit Nehruji was born in Allahabad on 14th November 1889. He died on 27th May 1967 during his tenure as the Prime Minister of India. 2.

Mr.GULZARI LAL NANDA :-Mr. Nanda had been the interim Prime Minister on two occasions; (1) after the sudden demise of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, from may 27, 1964 to June 9, 1964, for 14 days, and (2) after the sudden demise of Mr.Lal Bahadur Shastri, from January 11 to 24, 1966 for a perio.d of 14 days. Mr.Nanda was born in Sialkot, now in Pakistan on 4th July 1898 and died on January 15, 1998, when he was running 100 years of age.

Mr.LAL BAHADUR SHASTRI:-Mr. Shastri was the Prime Minister of India from 9th June 1964 to 11th January 1966. Mr.Shastri was born in Moghalsarai, Varanasion 2nd October 1904. He died on 11th January 1966 at Tashkent in USSR, while negotiating peace talks with Pakistan. 4.

Mrs. INDIRA GANDHI:-Mrs.Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister of India from 24th January 1966 to 24th March 1966. Again she was the Prime Minister of India from 14th January 1977 to 31st October 1984. Mrs. Gandhi has been the only lady Prime Minister of India. Mrs. Indira Gandhi was born in Allahabad on 19th November 1917 and was shot dead by her own security guards on 31st October 1984. 5.

Mr.MORARJI DESAI:-Mr.Morarji Desai was the Prime Minister of India from 24th March 1977 to 28th July 1979, being the first Non-congress Prime Minister of India, heading the Janata Party Government. Mr.Desai was born on 29th February 1896 in a village at Gujarath. Mr.Desai died on 10th April 1995, when he was running 100 years of age.

Mr.CHARAN SINGH:-Mr.Charan Singh was the Prime Minister of India from 28th July 1979 to 14th January 1980. Within a few days of his assuming office as the Prime Minister one of the supporting parties withdrew support and Mr.Charan Singh was only a Caretaker PM. Mr. Charan Singh was born on 23rd December 1902 at Meerut and he died in the year 1987. 7.

Mr.RAJIV GANDHI:-Mr. Rajiv Gandhi was the Prime Minister of India from 31st October 1984 to 1st December 1989, being the youngest Prime Minister of India at the age of 41 years. Mr.Rajiv Gandhi was born at Mumbai on 20th August 1944 and he died on 21st May 1991 at Sriperumpudur in Tamilnadu, in a human bomb-blast. 8.

Mr.V.P. SINGH:-Mr. Viswanath Prataph Singh was the Prime Minister of India, form 2nd December 1989 to 10th November 1990, being the head of the Janata Dal Government. Mr.V.P.Singh was born on 25th June 1931. He died very recently on Thursday, 27th November 2008.

Mr.CHANDRA SHEKHAR:-Mr.Chandrashekhar was the Prime Minister of India from 10th November 1990 to 21st June 1991. He was born on 1st July 1927 in Ballia district, UP. 10.

Mr.P. V. NARASIMHA RAO:- Mr.Narasimha Rao was the Prime Minister of India from 21st June 1991 to 10th May 1996, being the first Prime Minister from South India. Mr. Rao was born in Vangara, Karimnagar District, Andhra Pradesh, on 28th June 1921.

Mr. A. B. VAJPAYEE:-Mr.Vajpayee was the Prime Minister of India from for only 16 days from 16th May 1996 to 1st June 1996. Mr. Vajpayee was born on 25th December Gwalior. Mr. Vajpayee was the Prime Minister for the second time from 13th October 1999 to 13th May 2004 when he resigned.

Mr.H D DEVE GOWDA:-Mr.Gowda was the Prime Minister of India form 1st June 1996 to 21st April 1997. He was born on 18th May 1933 Hassan district, Karnataka.

Dr.I. K. GUJRAL:Mr.Gujral was the Prime Minister of India for 21st April 1997 to 28th November 1997 when he resigned. Mr. Gujral was born on 4th December 1919 in Jhelum, the undivided Punjab which is at present in Pakistan.

DR. MANMOHAN SINGH:-Dr.Manmohan Singh is the present Prime Minister of India from 22nd May 2004. Dr. Singh was born on 26th September 1932.

List of Presidents of India from 1950 till date

Dr. Rajendra Prasad was the first President of Independent and Republic India. He was the President of India from 26th January 1950 to 13th May 1962. He was born in Jiradei, in the Siwan district of Bihar on 3rd December 1884 and he died on 28th February 1963. 2.

Dr.Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was the 2nd President of India from 13th May 1962 to 13th May 1967. He was born on 5th September 1888 at Tiruthani, near Chennai and he died on 17th April 1975. 3.

Dr.Zakir Hussain was the 3rd President of India from 13th May 1967 to 3rd May 1969. He was the first Muslim to be the President of India. He was born at Hyderabad on 8th February 1897 and died on 3rd May 1969, during his tenure.

Justice Mohd. Hidayatullah was the Acting President of India for a short time, from 20th Jully 1969 to 21st August 1969. Justice Hidayatullah was born on 17th December 1905. 5.

Mr.Varahagiri Venkatagiri/V.V.Giri was the 4th President of India from 24th August 1969 to 24th August 1974. He was born at Berhampore, Orissa on 10th August 1894. Mr.V.V.Giri passed away in the year 1980. 6.

Dr.Fakrudeen Ali Ahmed was the 5th President of India from 24 August 1974 to 11 February 1977. He was the Second Muslim to be the President of India. He died during his tenure as president of India.

Mr.B.D.Jatti was the temporary President of India from 11th February 1977 to 25th July 1977. 8.

Mr. Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy was the 6th President of India from 25th July 1977 to 25th July 1982. He was born in Anantpur District, Andhraprashesh, on 19th May 1913. 9.

Mr.Giani Zail Singh was the 7th President of India from 25th July 1982 to 25th July 1987. He was born in a village at Faridkot, Punjab on 5th May 1916 and he died on 25th December 1994.

Mr.R.Venkataraman was the 8th President of India from 25th July 1987 to 25th July 1992. He was born on 4th December 1910 in Thanjavur District, Tamilnadu. 11.

Dr.Shanker Dayal Sharma was the 9th President of India from 25th July 1992 to 25th July 1997. He was born on 19th August 1918 and died on 26th December 1999. 12.

Mr.K.R.Narayan was the 10th resident of India from 25th July 1997 to 24th July 2002. He was born in Kottayam District, Kerala on 27th October 1920.

Dr. A.P.J. Adbul Kalam was the 11th President of India from 25th July 2002 to 25th July 2007. He was born on 15th October 1931 in Rameswarm, Tamilnadu. 14.

Mrs.Pratibha Patil is the 12th and the present President of India from 25th July 2007, being the first lady President of India. She was born on 19th December 1934 in Nadgaon, Maharashtra.
