Internship

Announcement Jefferson County (JEFFCO) GIS Project The DU Intern is expected to have entry-level knowledge of cartography and ArcMap (v9x or v10). Specific editing procedures will be demonstrated. The intern will not be requested to perform analysis. Tasks are as follows: 1. Edit existing feature classes to update content based on aerial imagery, supporting cartographic data, and with guidance from subject matter experts. 2. Create ArcMap Documents (MXDs) for the purpose of printing standard county maps. The GIS content and scale for the standard maps are set. The intern will select data from the GIS warehouse, apply cartographic symbology, label, and create other map elements (e.g. legend, title, scale bar). 3. Create web services of GIS layers using ArcMap MXD and MSD file types.

POSITION Time Frame: Oct 24, 2011 through March/April 2011 (specific dates to be determined). Length of project: estimated 225-250 hours total, 16-20 hours per week (preferably two 8- to 10- hour workdays). Schedule is somewhat flexible. Pay rate: $13.00 per hour. Academic credit: eligible for three credit hours during the Winter 2012 quarter (optional). Hired and paid by DU/Geography Department as a student hourly, bi-weekly, non-benefited employee. Interns will work onsite at JEFFCO offices in the Laramie Building, 3500 Illinois St., Golden, CO, and report to a JEFFCO project supervisor.
