FROM THE PULPIT Everyone's Invited???

Matthew 22:1-14
How many times have you heard OR said, If THEY are coming to the party then I will not be there!? If everyone is invited to the dinner, do we really want to go? It could be a motley crew. It might be people we don't like. It might be people who don't like us. It might be someone unlike us. It might be people who have made us mad. It might be someone who does not deserve to come. One thing is sure. If we don't want to risk the company of such people, then we better stay away from HIS table, from HIS church, from His kingdom. They all have an invitation. Another thing is certain. Whatever their dissimilarities, they will all be bad people and beggars. They will all be sinners- like us! God has no place in the kingdom for good people. Jesus said, I have come not to call the righteous but sinners. With all our talk and legislation about discrimination, there is but one place where all are equal and equally accepted- at the foot of the cross, in the kingdom of God, in the love of the Lord. It ought to be exhilarating for us in the hour of worship to be together as one family, where we can all stop pretending to be better than others, more deserving than others, more favored than others. Here we are all sinners saved by grace. Here we are indeed brothers and sisters in Christ. This rarely happens in any other place in society. In the office someone is rewarded with a higher salary. In school someone gets an A and someone gets a D. Even parking lots are reserved for more important people. God has one family. No grandchildren. Just children. Christ died for those children. The invitation to come to the banquet is directed to all. To those who come, God gives the blessings of the kingdom and the best party ever! FATHER MIKE
