ANTIDOTE FOR ANXIETY

We live in dangerous and uncertain times. Consequently, the anxiety level of people is on the rise. It is quite common to hear of someone experiencing anxiety attack, or worrying over some imaginary threat. Hence, people exhibit fretfulness, worry, and having some undue concern. The Bible speaks of an effective way to overcome anxiety. It is through prayer. Prayer is expressing trust in the Father who cares for us and who knows what is best for us. It is using our spiritual privilege of having free and unlimited access to our Father who loves us. Essentially, it is the worshipful attitude of our minds. It is not a means of testing God, nor just a matter of receiving what we wanted from God. Prayer is the way we express our trust in Him... of acknowledging His goodness and His good intentions. It is a process of becoming... of coming into a closer and deeper relationship with Him. If our focus is only on the results and the gifts, then we are missing out on what prayer is all about. Prayer is a form of worship. To be prayerful is to be worshipful. Petition, on the other hand, is an expression of need. It is telling the Father what is necessary for us and for others. Need is not want. The Father gives what we need, not what we want. What we want can be harmful and outright destructive. Hence, when we petition God, we are asking the Father who knows best to give what is best for us.
