Half Day Farmer Organic Farming Training and Farm Development Program 1. Revenue for organic farming can reach RM 5000 per acre per month for vegetable and more than RM 10,000 per acre per month for fish farming. 2. One of the most critical problem developing new organic farms is shortage of skilled labour. 3. We propose a Half Day Farmer method to train new organic farmers, which reduces the capital investment at the same time. 4. With half day farmer, we recruit volunteers who are willing to spend at least half a day a week on an organic farm. As such, 14 volunteers are roughly equivalent to 1 full time farmer. 5. The benefit of half day farmer is that the farm owner reduces the capital investment to hire skilled farmers to develop the farm until revenues are generated (within 3 enues to 6 months). 6. Another advantage is that from the pool of the volunteers, some of them can become full time farmer once the revenues are generated. 7. With this method, we can train many farmers and use this method to develop many more new organic farms.
