HYGIENIC AIRTIGHT FLEXIBLE CONNECTORS WITH QUICK-CONNECT COUPLING

A problem for which there has never been a good solution. Much has been designed and tested, but exible connections have never been air- or powdertight and have certainly never been hygienic. Because of increasingly stringent requirements during recent years within food industry, there is a large demand for exible connections which are suitable for these conditions. Because exible connections of all shapes, types and sizes are our specialty, this presented a wonderful challenge. The exible connections had to satisfy the following requirements. - air- and powdertight - hygienic - easy to assemble and disassemble - suitable for CIP (Clean In Place) cleaning - suitable for assembly in existing situations - suitable for different exible materials Through extensive practical testing, we came up with 2 solutions:

From old
Current situation/standard

To...
New situation FDM/FSC

New

Product build-up between the connection and the tube Difcult to clean Looks sloppy Dirty working environment because of leakage

Hygiene

No crevices in which product or dirt can built up Easy to clean Very suitable for CIP cleaning No leakage, therefore a clean working environment

Poor seal Difcult to install Does not always t properly Risk of damage or injury through the use of screwdrivers

Assembly

Always ts properly air- and powdertight Easy to assemble without tools Longer life through good assembly

Difcult to determine the correct size Many different sizes, no standard Difcult to measure for replacement orders

Sizes & Measurements

Standard diameters, so limited stock is necessary Easy to measure for replacement orders Standard article codes

FDM FSC
As the exible connections are air- and powdertight, the working environment does not need cleaning as often. Cleaning the installation is much easier and faster and hygiene is much better than in other solutions. Because the exible connections are based on a standardised pipe system, they can easily be installed in almost every situation. The exible connections are simple to connect to a pipe network, using the well-known Jacob Quick-connect coupling. The coupling is air- and powdertight and very easy to assemble and disassemble. The exible connections are manufactured from transparent PU-UF 3, which meets the FDA requirements.

Upon differences in pressure or when starting up installations, hose clamps can be knocked loose Product leakage through poor installation

Pressure & Explosions

Constant pressure resistance - 0,2 Bar to + 0,3 Bar Explosion force + 0,5 Bar

FDM
Is a flexible connection based on standard Jacob pipe parts. Using stainless steel 20mm-high and 1-mm wall thickness clamping rings, a sleeve is compressed into place onto stainless steel welding ends (55-mm high, 2mm wall thickness). An air- and powdertight connection is achieved which prevents the collection of dust and dirt. The recommended minimum length of flexible connections of this type is 150 mm. A minimum length of 200 mm is recommended for violently vibrating set-ups. All of the above is of standard FDM design. Should the FDM type be selected and a 150mm installation length is not available, we are able to shorten the 55-mm stainless steel welding ends to a maximum of 30 mm. The flexible joint is therefore available in lengths upwards from 100 mm. The FDM type is available in the following diameters: 60 80 100 120 140 150 175 200 224 250 300 350 The length can be specified by the customer. A minimum length does apply, but there is no maximum length. For diameters greater than DN350 or for tight installation spaces, please take a look at the FSC design. Flexible types of material other than PU-UF3 can be selected for the FDM. These can be designed using, for instance: FDA permitted materials:
White Neoprene seamless rubber White Silicone White Silicone moulded bellow PU-UF3 (UV stable) PU-UF1 Seamless PU 3mm 3mm 1mm 1mm 1mm

If required, other materials: - Black anti-static moulded bellow - PVC film, transparent (0.5 mm, 1 mm, 2 mm) - If required, other types of rubber and plastic

FSC
This is a flexible connection, which can, of course, also be used within the same Jacob coupling programme. Its also exchangable with the FDM type. The FSC has been developed to be fitted in places where there is very little space, or in diameters larger than 350 mm. FSC is a flexible connection, made of PU film. In this sleeve, a Jacob welding end with a height of 15 mm is welded into place which is both air- and powdertight. Installation lengths of 70 mm can be used in the FSC and, in violently vibrating set-ups, 120 mm. Again, there is no maximum length. The FSC is available in diameters: 140 150 175 200 224 250 300 350 400 450 500 560 630

The FSC can only be obtained in the following materials: FDA approved materials: - PU-UF3 (UV stable) - PU-UF1 - Seamless PU 1mm 1mm 1mm

Thermoplastic materials, such as: - PVC film (0.5 mm, 1 mm, 2 mm) - PE film (polyethylene)

SPECIAL DESIGNS
A flexible connection sometimes needs to have a more complex shape. This is to keep down costs. A shaped metal part is more expensive than a flexible connection. Complex shapes, such as:; - Tapered diameter - Excentric/centre to centre - Reducing parts (e.g. Dn250> 150 <DN200) We are specialised in producing complex shapes.

CONSTRUCTION/ASSEMBLY
For the construction/assembly, your installation or application has to have 8 mm Jacob welding ends. In the FDM, a loose gasket should be fitted to ensure the coupling is airtight. In the FSC a gasket is not necessary as the flexible connection itself functions as a seal. In both cases, the coupling is both air- and powdertight. The standard welding ends have a length of 55 mm. When the installation space is limited, these welding ends can be shortened to 10 mm. The flexible connections are fitted to the installation in both the FDM and the FSC by means of a Quick Connect clamping ring. In this way, disconnection and reconnection can take place within seconds. All parts, such as welding ends and gaskets, can be ordered from us.
