Supporting Scriptures:

Math. 28:1-9

Mark 15:46 16:14 Luke 23:52 24:10 John 19:31 20:19 THE ORDER OF EVENTS FOR THE BURIAL AND RESURECTION

Jesus was put into the grave before 6 pm Wednesday. See: Luke 23:54 That day was the Preparation, and the Sabbath drew near. (Sabbath here refers to the Passover and not the Saturday Sabbath) Mark 15:42 Now when evening had come, because it was the Preparation Day, that is, the day before the Sabbath, John 19:42 So there they laid Jesus, because of the Jews' Preparation Day, for the tomb was nearby. The next day after the burial: Matthew 27:62 On the next day, which followed the Day of Preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees gathered together to Pilate, Jesus was three days and three nights in the tomb: He was not two days or three days and two nights. See: Matthew 12:40 "For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. (See Jonah1: 17) When did Jesus rise from the dead? While we do not know for certain, we do know that he was raised from the dead before the Marys came to the tomb Sunday morning and that he had to be in the tomb for three days and three nights. Many people try to twist the three days to mean not a full three days. Mark 16:1 to 4 shows that Jesus was gone before the women came to the tomb Sunday morning. Two of the verses that some use to prove Jesus rose on Sunday is: Mark 16:9 Now when He rose early on the first day of the week, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom He had cast seven demons. Basically the Greek here is saying that he got up on Sunday morning and started the day. Luke 24:21 "But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, today is the third day since these things happened. This is a Greek idiom and it is translated wrong. What they are really saying is it is three days since this happened. They are on the fourth day talking about the last three days. Special notes: It is important to note that the Passover is also called a Sabbath. So during that week there were two Sabbaths. The Greek does use the plural Sabbaths in many places while lots of the translators do not. The three days and three nights are a specific prophecy from the OT, quoted in the NT and is more accurate than just saying three days. It is very important to understand when the Hebrews ended and began their day. If one thinks like they do then the day ended when the sun set, so that would be around 6pm in the evening. There are some specific facts that are set: Jesus died around 3 pm Joseph had to go to Pilate to ask for the body Pilate summoned the Centurion to check and then gave the body to Joseph Joseph put the body in a new tomb close by. After three days and three nights Jesus was resurrected from the tomb. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate what actually took place. It is impossible to say that Jesus was buried Friday evening and rose Sunday morning as per the traditional view.
