" We have been impressed by Huaweis 3G technology roadmap, especially their ability to deliver next-generation wireless applications and services quickly. We are confident that Huaweis solutions will help us deliver an enhanced 3G experience to our customers. " ---- David Storrie, StarHub's Head of Network and Wholesale

Huawei solutions & strengths

Industry-leading HSPA and Distributed Node B solution with 7.2 Mbps peak rate The uBro solution for next generation indoor coverage Powerful IP RAN solution

tarHub is Singapore's leading infocommunication company and the sole operator delivering a full range of information, communications and entertainment services over fixed, cable, mobile, and Internet.

Customer benefits
Greatly improved system coverage and service quality by adopting Huawei full performance HSPA solution and Distributed Node B System, increasing number of highend data users Realizing flat architecture for smooth migration to future Highest mobile broadband and lowest transmission investment in the Singapore market

Swap the existing vendor for full HSPA service

Since first launching its 3G service in 2005, StarHub has built more than 800 Node Bs. Built around an ageing

architecture and platform, StarHubs UTRAN network is weak in support of IP and HSDPA technology and its network in-service performance is unsatisfactory, such as sleeping cells/blocked cells. Any upgrade of these facilities would be very costly and the investment involved would be unrecoverable. After in-depth deliberation, StarHub chose Huawei as its sole UTRAN supplier to replace the existing unsatisfactory vendor. StarHub launches the 7.2 Mb/s HSDPA network in 2007.

Quick and cost-effective delivery

It was vital for StarHub to launch the HSDPA service at the promised time once it had been announced. Since Huaweis ultra-compact, standarddesign BBUs do not require special equipment rooms, StarHub was able to easily adapt them for GSM cabinet usage, or could simply install them in passageways, staircases, basements, or in a variety of other small spaces. It significantly reduces operators CAPEX and OPEX because of its small size, low power consumption, and excellent coverage capability.

stations. So, StarHub plans to make full use of its existing broadband network resources as it continues to expand its new 3G network. In following this road, StarHub will leverage Huawei s Iub IP transmission solution, ready for deployment one year ahead of the competition. Huaweis distributed Node B enables IP transmission and offers a wide range of tailored Iub IP transmission solutions to suit different IP RAN networking applications. By adopting this solution, StarHub can easily save operators between 4090% on transmission costs.

Milestones
June 2007, more than 1,000 sites are on the air. February 2007, StarHub selects Huaweis HSPA solution to upgrade its 3G mobile network in Singapore.

Utilize the existing IP backbone to achieve savings of transmission

HSDPA services can consume much of the transmission bandwidth of base

The uBro supplies standard UMTS access with flat architecture and IP transmission.
As most data applied indoor, operators, deploying Huaweis uBro solution and

the compact Femtocell equipments, offer users the standard indoor UMTS access which making users enjoying better indoor coverage and avoid blinds spots without terminal change. Huaweis Femtocell is an absolute plug & play equipment which means auto configuration and easy distribution. Profiting from mature IP technologies, Huaweis uBro solution can ensure security of telecom level and QoS, and smooth migrate to future by flat IP network architecture.
