OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH. In keeping with our commitment
for the past 58 years of community involvement all six of our publications and web site for this week are dedicated to
Cancer Awareness. We encourage you to make donations to The Cancer Services Program at Glens
Falls Hospital. That program provides no-cost mammograms, breast exams, pap tests and take home colon
cancer screening kits. Their services are provided by many local doctors and health centers for men and women with
no health insurance. Help your neighbors and join in the fight! Call them at 518-926-6570. Advertisers in this issue
who have a ribbon have helped to join the cause; please support them as they help support our communities.

FIGHT BREAST CANCER- The Saratoga Hospital Womens
Imaging Center and Sundaes Best Hot Fudge Sauce are teaming up
this October in the fight against breast cancer by collaborating on
a fundraiser selling jars and gift boxes of Sundaes Best Hot Fudge

continue the fight against breast cancer and heighten awareness
that routine screening and early diagnosis saves lives.
I am the biggest believer in routine screenings, and we are so
fortunate to have such a great facility and wonderful caring staff
in the Saratoga Community, we are delighted to be a part of this
important fundraiser, says Camarro. The individual jars and Trio
(3 jar ) Gift Boxes will be available for sale at The Womens
Imaging Center at Wilton Medical Arts located at Rte 50 across
from Wilton Mall from Oct. 1st through October 31st. A portion
of each sale will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

A FEW FACTS REGARDING GUN CONTROL!!!
After the Japanese decimated our fleet in Pearl Harbor Dec 7,
1941, they could have sent their troop ships and carriers di-
rectly to California to finish what they started. The prediction
from our Chief of Staff was we would not be able to stop a
massive invasion until they reached the Mississippi River. Re-
member, we had a 2 million man army and war ships???...
All fighting the Germans.
So, why did they not invade? After the war, the remaining
Japanese generals and admirals were asked that question. Their
answer???... They knew that almost every home had guns and
the Americans knew how to use them.
The world's largest army.... America's hunters! I had never
thought about this....
There were over 600,000 hunters this past season in the state of
Wisconsin ..Over the last several months, Wisconsin's hunters
became the eighth largest army in the world. More men under
arms than in Iran ..More than in France and Germany combined.
These men deployed to the woods of a single American state to
hunt with firearms, and no one was killed
That number pales in comparison to the 750,000 who hunted
the woods of Pennsylvania and Michigan's 700,000 hunters
Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia and it literally
establishes the fact that the hunters of those four states alone
would comprise the largest army in the world.
The point?
America will forever be safe from foreign invasion with that
kind of home-grown firepower. Hunting -- it's not just a way to
fill the freezer. It's a matter of national security.
That's why all enemies, foreign and domestic, want to see us
disarmed. Food for thought when next we consider gun control.

UNCLE WALLY WONDERS
Is the Social Security System a Ponzi Scheme?
What is a Ponzi Scheme? A Ponzi scheme is a fraudulent
investment operation that pays returns to its investors from
their own money or the money paid by subsequent investors,
rather than from any actual profit earned by the individual or
organization running the operation. The Ponzi scheme usually
entices new investors by offering returns other investments
cannot guarantee, in the form of short-term returns that are
either abnormally high or unusually consistent. The
perpetuation of the returns that a Ponzi scheme advertises and
pays requires an ever-increasing flow of money from investors
to keep the scheme going. The system is destined to collapse
because the earnings, if any, are less than the payments to
investors.
So, how does that compare to Social Security? Well, we put
money in with the promise that it will be invested by the
government, and securely held for our retirement when it will
be returned piecemeal (monthly) as long as we live. To keep
Social Security going requires monetary input from other
participants. When the number of people receiving their money
back starts to outnumber the number of people putting into
the system, the system collapses. Or, if the funds being put in
by others does not equal the funds being paid out, in accordance
with the plan, the system collapses. That is what has happened
with Social Security. So, it does fit the definition, except, is it
fraudulent?
Well, the original promise to us was that the funds would be
kept in a lock box, secured for our use in retirement. The thieves
who run our government saw fit to unlock the box and use the
funds for other purposes. I think this is where the fraud comes
in. If an individual broke his/her promise in this manner, they
would be jailed.
The difference here is that we have given the thieves who run
our government the power to increase our tax payments to
keep the scheme going. Individual Ponzis simply dont have
that power.
Will the system collapse? Not as long as we keep paying
increased taxes.
Should we change the system? Yes, we should force them to
put the funds back into the lock box. And, because people are
living longer than when the system was set up, we should
require future contributors to wait longer before receiving their
retirement distribution. In addition, if we die before all of the
funds we put into the system are repaid, the remaining funds
should be paid to our heirs in accordance with our instructions.
In other words, we should force the powers that be to stick to
their original promise and stop them from using the funds to
satisfy campaign contributors and fund pork barrel projects. It
is our money, damn it, and we should have it available to us,
100%.
Do you think anything will be done? I wonder.
This weeks poll question:
Should we do hydrolic
fracturing in this area?
70% said no; 10% said yes;
20% were not sure. Our polls are not scientifically done,
but they do reflect the thinking of some people in our
area. What do you think? If you have a question to pose
to Polly, e-mail it to shoppers1@earthlink.net.
