DESCRIPTION:
Geomatic Plan Assistant helps to produce, edit, process, prepare and review survey, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and mapping projects and deliverables for the planning, design, construction and operation of transportation facilities.
SKILLs:
Interpret survey data from survey eld notes, to determine relevant eld measurements Analyzing skills to identify isolate and correct errors in 3-dimensional ground models Evaluating skills to determine if consultant deliverables are acceptable and meet standards Make decisions when checking products and various deliverables from consultants for accuracy, content, and conformity with Ministry standards or legislation Excellent communication and organizational skills and multi-tasking
EDUCATION:
Completion of secondary school is usually required Completion of a 2-3 year college program in geomatics is required for survey technologists Completion of a 1-2 year college program in geomatics is required for survey technicians Certication by provincial associations of technicians and technologists may be required

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
As a graduate of the 2 year Geomatics Technician program, you will be capable of collecting, organizing, and managing geographic data using state-of-the-art technology like GPS, remote sensing, and surveying tools to collect, mine, store, manipulate, and communicate geographic information.

GETTING STARTED
THE FOLLOWING ARE 3 SIMPLE WAYS OF GETTING STARTED IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY:
You can begin by applying for a job directly in the Civil Construction Industry. Once you begin working with a Construction Company or Contractor you will quickly gain the necessary skills needed to advance yourself through in-house, work-as-you-learn training. You can enrol in a University, Community College or a Private Technical School to study and prepare yourself for a Career in Civil Construction. All of this information may be found through our website. You can get started through an apprenticeship program by combining on the job training with technical in-class training gaining experience and increased responsibility. You can work in the industry, get paid and work towards earning credits.
